Discussion: Abortion II

Republicans must be overjoyed at this kind of bull****. They are all for it.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Coffee shop giving out free Plan B triggers flood of calls to Texas town’s police

When the Tumbleweed + Sage Coffeehouse started giving away free contraceptive kits in late July, word spread fast, and calls flooded the Texas town’s police department.

Each kit comes packed with two Plan B pills, pregnancy tests and condoms, plus an instruction pamphlet. Anyone who needs a kit is welcome to come inside and take one, or ask at the drive-thru.

“You’re allowed to rest in our cafe, do whatever you need to do. We’re here for you,” owner Destiny Adams said in a social media post, announcing that her Wolfforth coffee shop had begun offering the kits.

As of Aug. 18, they’ve given away at least 75 kits, many to young women and mothers, Adams told McClatchy News.
While Adams has seen plenty of support, it’s clear some aren’t happy with her.

A group of protesters has been gathering outside her shop on Saturdays, accusing her of promoting abortion, she told McClatchy News.

And soon after Adams announced the free contraceptives on social media, the Wolfforth Police Department was inundated with calls and emails “questioning the legality” of what the coffee shop is doing.

The department said it is “researching” the issue, in a July 27 Facebook post that drew criticism.

Adams said she isn’t worried about her program being shut down by the police, at least not under current state law.

“We have done our research and know that we aren’t breaking any laws,” she said. “We will keep it that way so that we can continue to provide things for our community.”

And if they're so happy, they should sit out the 2022 midterms since Rs finally delivered them a 6-3 majority SCOTUS and no Roe. They caught the damn car, now they'll have to deal with being ran over by angry female voters.

Raw Story - Kansas abortion foes will go door to door confronting voters after recount proves they lost

Anti-choice activists threatened to carry out a door-to-door investigation after a recount proved again that Kansas voters overwhelmingly backed an amendment to preserve abortion rights.

Nine of the state's 105 counties recounted their ballots and found 87 fewer votes in favor of preserving those rights and six more in favor of stripping those from women in the Aug. 2 election where 922,000 votes were cast on the issue, and the election denier and anti-abortion activist were ordered to pay nearly $120,000 for the hand recount they requested, reported The Kansas City Star.

“It looks insidious," said state Rep. Stephanie Clayton (D-Overland Park). "It’s a two-pronged attack. It’s attacking our election system and it’s attacking, specifically, the counties that didn’t vote the way that they wanted them to. They’re creating unnecessary work for our already overburdened election workers in what I see as an effort to put democracy itself at risk.”
The recount was requested by Melissa Leavitt, a Colby woman who has testified before the state Legislature about 2020 election conspiracy theories, and bankrolled by longtime anti-abortion activist Mark Gietzen, whose Kansas for Life group targeted George Tiller's late-term abortion clinic before he was murdered.

Nobody should have to explain how they voted to a bunch of conspiracy and harassment and political terrorist randos.

Great argument for why all recounts must be paid in advance before they happen: Election hoaxers wasting tax money and not wanting to pay for anything while rejecting any result that doesn’t conform to the outcome of their pre-election belief/grift. It’s stupid enough they are doing all this to a blow out vote margin.

He won't pay for it because he's a sore loser, like the rest of his group.

This is another example of Dobbs energizing Ds to vote—the voters in Tampa tossed out an incumbent judge appointed by then governor Rick Scott (and promoted by DeSantis).

I don’t think the FL meathead is having a good night. His “Top Gun” campaign ad went down like a lead balloon and now one of his prized conservative judges lost.

It would be justified if voters swept out Abbott and maybe the R supermajority in the state houses in November. It's going to take a massive GOTV effort to do that, but Beto is making inroads.

Obviously Kansas' abortion vote wasn't a clear enough alarm bell for red state Republicans -- especially the Texas idiots. They are all in it to appease the small minority of hard R MAGAts, the will of the majority be damned.
