🇺🇸 Discussion: Abortion II

US News
Sad that it comes down to this, but I hope more states finally agree to women's rights.

Nice to see some cooperation in realization of what's actually going on. If we don't see more of this happening we're going to be in trouble as more and more rights get taken away.

Sad that there are still women Republicans who do vote for this kind of thing however.

What are you supposed to do as a doctor when you're damned if you do or damned if you don't? Any wrong decision and you're in jail. :(

The last time Berger & Moore pulled this s**t with the HB2 nonsense, Rs lost the governor’s race that year (passed it March 2016) and the supermajority two years after (2018).

I would love to see one of those smug SOBs become minority leader in 2025…

Hope it happens for you. :)

They are awful, terrible people who have never had to experience that woman's loss.

They only care about the white babies that survived to bolster the Master Race! :(

NC dipped 7% in voter turnout from 2018 to 2022. Had the voter turnout percentage been 50% or more last year, this 12 week abortion ban wouldn't even be in committee. Cooper's veto would've been sustained.

This is a do-or-die 2024 voter rallying moment. Voters didn't turn out last year and we are paying the price like all the red states. NC voters realize by now that next year that abortion will be on the ballot even if it's not a referendum. Will more voters stay with a sane Democrat for governor and break the Republican supermajority (and potentially undo the 12 week ban)? Or will they stick with the extreme MAGA candidate who will happily sign a complete ban Berger and Moore send his way?

Hopefully sane Republicans will say,"Enough is enough" and vote these guys out. You can't let one issue destroy everything else. :(

I'm still pissed off at the legislators in Raleigh. I'm heartened at seeing all these female protestors at the Capitol protesting this but that hasn't stopped Berger and Moore from pushing unpopular legislation through a gerrymandered supermajority before.

The 12 week ban that's moving through the committee isn't just a clean bill but has several good things attached (like paid parental leave for state employees) that has Rs in lockstep. Basically it's a poison pill -- stuff like the paid leave that Berger and Moore wouldn't put up for a vote by itself (which would get bipartisan support) but did it as a carrot to keep the R caucus in line. And of course, women seeking an abortion in NC before the 12 week cutoff have to do THREE visits as well as push lies about "born alive" abortions and other R indoctrination.

They only care about the white babies that survived to bolster the Master Race! :(

1. Create policies that make most white women terrified to get pregnant.

2. ???

3. Watch the flood of white babies pour in.

I read a quote from some old white Republican who basically said -- in his opinion-- banning abortion would help the white race because it would allow/force more white babies to be born. That's what I was reacting to. On the other hand I had figured that since most of the poorer Black and Brown have more children than richer whites so his statement didn't make much sense-- but if he's thinking this will increase the white race, maybe more of his like minded fellows do, too, and that's part of their impetus for pushing these bans.

Republicans and white supremacist are in complete denial about the true cause of low birth rates in white women, wealth and autonomy. Two things no sane women will sacrifice to have 8 kids like their miserable grandmothers.

Oh, I hear that. I know several women who have no desire for children at all, they have dogs instead. Much easier. I had one kid and that was enough for me. 8 kids? I'd shoot myself. :(

It's like I'm living in another country. And they wonder why our birth rates are falling.

That's the dystopia conservatives are praying for. As if any number of reasons a stillbirth happen naturally are reason enough to jail a woman for murder.
