Discussion: Illegal Immigration and Other Citizenship Issues

I don't think anyone wants to take away the Equal Protection Clause or re-reverse Dred Scott. The title of the articles I am reading on this are misleading. "REPUBLICANS WANT TO TAKE AWAY 14TH AMENDMENT!" "REPUBLICANS TO END EQUAL PROTECTION CLAUSE!" "REPUBLICS WANT TO MAKE SLAVERY LEGAL!"

I hate the term "liberal media," and I usually roll my eyes when Conservatives point out their weak examples of it, but this is a perfect example. No one is saying to reinstitute slavery. I think all Kyl wants is to do away with the being born on US soil makes you a citizen provision.

Who was saying this was making slavery legal? (citation please)

I find it ironic that you'd call someone out for being hyperbolic after your last post.

Anchor babies are becoming far too big of a problem. I used to support simply telling the illegals, "Your kid has legal status but you don't, so either give him up for adoption or get the hell out and take him with you," but then you'll have the ACLU whining and it creates problems in the future. I think its reached the point where the child of illegals should not have citizenship. Only the children of citizens/legal aliens working towards obtaining citizenship.

This. No one forced them to come here and use their children as props.

Seems more like some good ol' race baiting just in time for elections.

There's a reason the parents left that country in the first place. It's not like they were sitting in Guatemala in a mansion with a flat screen and decided to come over here and steal jobs from Americans one day.

and they came here illegally...so the parents get a choice, leave your kid in foster care and hope for the best, or take the kid back with you

Millions upon millions of people have legally immigrated to the United States. (And they came from far worse conditions than those in Mexico.)

No, but they did decide to come here illegally in order to give birth so they could use their child to gain leverage with which to exploit the sympathetic.

So they can live a life of poverty. Look, I hate the act of anchor babies as much as the next guy but the only ones that suffer are the kids, and they're completely innocent in this.

Maybe.

if I had my way, Id get property owners and people that live in these border states to actively patrol the border...for 30 days, anyone crossing illegally is shot

word will get around

I think everyone feels for the children. They didn't ask to be put in such a situation, but they are the ones the end up suffering the most.

This wouldn't be a problem if you know our adoption process wasn't so tedious and ridiculous that people go and adopt kids in some African nation.

Tell me about it Darth! The adoption system in this country is so full of red tape! It's pretty sad when it's easier to adopt in other countries than your own.

:hehe:

my dads side of the family (which traces back to about 1863) were slaves in Virginia...their owner died and left them the property, which they sold and relocated to New England...

so I don't want to hear crap about the poor and impoverished and oppressed....my family ended up here because of forced bussing

Well I don't think anyone said oppressed.

We all know the circumstances.

And since this is the case, why doesn't Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, or some other rich person just play Robin Hood and bring 20 jets to Africa and illegally fly thousands of poverty ridden people in Ethopia back to America? It would do a really good service for them. But that's just not how things get to work.

Maybe if all they had to do was wait in a line at Ellis Island, fill out some paperwork and then be an American by the end of the day, we wouldn't have all these problems.

Because that wouldn't be eco-friendly of course. Think dude, seriously.
