🌎 Discussion: Online Piracy, AI, Net Neutrality, Killswitch, and Other Internet Issues II

World News
This is all part of Trump's master plan of Resurrecting Hitler and ruling alongside his boyhood hero as Co-Fuhrer's for the next 1,000 years.

:o

No, it means Telecom giants gain tight control of all internet content so websites like google, Wikipedia, netflix, amazon, ebay, SHH, etc are never created and we're stuck with whatever inferior version Verizon or Comcast come up with.

This pretty much destroys an open and free internet where the people determine what websites prosper.

No biggie, right?

So, the day the Ready Player One full trailer was released there were super popular comments comparing the movie's plot to the battle for Net Neutrality with over 500 upvotes. Of course, WB deleted all of them the same day.

So, as someone who hasn't been as in the loop on this, is there anyway backwards? Could it be taken to the courts or something?

I think only Congress can overturn this decision now.

Supreme Court could've overturned it but Hillary can't be president or get a SC pick cuz her emails, so...

I'm zero ****ing surprised this passed.

You guys need an armed revolt or something. This is ****ing stupid.

When I say a free and open internet should be added to the Bill of Rights people mock or show apathy.

I guess a free and open internet is no big deal.

It only impacts free speech, free press, free assembly, access to information, access to political and social progress globally, democratic power, etc.

F***ing amazon isn't go away and neither will Wikipedia, let alone Google.

That's the point of his statement. Nobody thought AOL/Yahoo would be the s***show they are today. People like myself actually thought Myspace was going to be the dominate social media platform. The Google/Amazon/Facebook's of the world have the money to play ball (they still didn't support this so that should tell you something) but the next revolutions of the internet can't happen if they don't have big money backers behind them.

That's the point.

Everything is becoming a monopoly.

Your favorite sites don't grow or exist without a free and open internet and level playing field.

Most of them could've been throttled to death if Verizon or Comcast wanted to squash them for any reason.

For the first time telecom giants can determine access to their competitors' online content.

Get it now?

F***ing amazon isn't go away and neither will Wikipedia, let alone Google.

Think about this:

All the big name players get together and decide only Ebay and Amazon get proprietary access for online shopping. Every other site from Etsy to your friends website where they sell cat shaped taco pins are now on low speeds unless you want to pay a few bucks more.

"Who cares? It's a few bucks I don't want to spend and I only really use Amazon anyway." So all the little guys get ****ed and the bigger guys get bigger.

You like Netflix and YT? Well from now on everything is going to be in 720p and laggy unless you upgrade to the 'Deluxe' package where you can get better access to them but if you use more than 50gb a month, you need to get the Ultra Deluxe package or else they'll throttle the **** out of your connection.

And yet another reason I'm happy to be Canadian.

Your country has turned to ****.

What the actual hell.

What a state representative wrote for me:

"Thank you for contacting me regarding net neutrality and federal regulation of the Internet. I appreciate your views on this important subject and welcome the opportunity to respond.

As you know, net neutrality is the concept that the federal government should issue rules and regulations that require all legal content found on the Internet to be treated equally. That means streaming video services can't pay more to secure more bandwidth and faster speeds for their customers. It also means Internet Service Providers (ISP) can't slow down the service of customers using large amounts of bandwidth to watch movies or play video games in favor of customers who check their email and browse the Internet. This idea is worth serious thought and debate. However, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) action on this issue under former President Obama went far beyond equal treatment of content.

In October 2017, new FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced the repeal of Title II regulations. This will return internet regulations to their pre-2015 state. Before 2015, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had the broad authority to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive practices and during that time ISPs were not blocking access to websites.

The FTC can pursue and prosecute unfair, deceptive, and fraudulent business practices which prohibit companies from selling consumers one product or service but providing them with something different. If an ISP fails to disclose blocking, throttling, or other actions that would matter to a consumer, the FTC's deception authority would apply. I believe this authority can properly hold providers accountable without placing unnecessary regulations on the private sector. I will closely monitor this recent ruling by the FCC and keep your thoughts and concerns in mind should any such legislation come to the House floor for consideration.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. If I can be of any further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit my Web site.."

No one that works in the government sector can afford to say anything against it, lest they feel the wrath of their bedfellows.

It still has to go through the courts and last I read the FCC are already receiving lawsuits.

These are a bunch of round talking BS falsehoods. We have years of ISP's abusing or trying to abuse their power and the FTC has almost no power to control or enforce any rules on ISP's.

That is why they received title II protections. Bunch of corrupt corporate shills f***ing the American people to line their own pockets.

Hearing arguments from Trump supporters on why ending Net Neutrality is a good thing is another proof why they were stupid enough to vote for Trump in the first place.

The worst are the ones happy it was repealed simply because it has libs/dems upset.

Schumer is trying to force a vote to override the repeal. This is the GOP's last chance to defuse the massive bomb Pai just set up to blow in their faces next Fall...
