Discussion: State Rights

Jason Murphey? Is this the same Jason Murphey who, only two weeks ago, sought to strike a pastor’s prayer from the Oklahoma House record simply because the pastor thanked his fiancé, who happens to be a man? So much for the voice of the little man in the face of government. While I think states should be able to pursue or enact certain legislation without federal intervention, I am always hesitant when people like Jason Murphey suddenly start shouting for states’ rights.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters,

We've stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know that we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and just will not ever agree on what's right. So let's just end it right now while we can do it on friendly terms. We can smile, shake hands, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and each go our own way.

So here's a model separation agreement.

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a portion. That's going to be the difficult part, but I'm sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate taste. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can have those. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. And since you hate guns and you hate war, we'll take the firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. But you are going to be responsible for finding a biodiesel vehicle big enough to haul them around.

We'll keep the capitalism, the greedy corporations, the pharmaceutical companies; we will keep Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have the homeless, the homeboys, the hippies and illegal aliens. We will keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, the greedy CEOS and all of the rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and we'll let you have NBC and Hollywood.

You can be nice to Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer anybody that threatens us. You can have the peaceniks and the war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we will provide them with security. You won't have to worry about it. We will keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley Maclaine. You can also have the UN, but we will no longer pay the bill.

We will keep the SUVs, the pickup trucks and the oversize luxury cars. You can have the compacts, the subcompacts and every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everybody healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We will continue to believe that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. We will keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the national anthem, and I am sure you will be happy to substitute in their place "Imagine." I'd like to teach the world to sing "Kumbaya" or "We are the world." We will practice trickle-down economics and you can give trickle-up poverty your best shot. And since it so offends you, we will keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots. And if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the friendly spirit of parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in about 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J Wall

Law student and an American

P.S. You can also have Barbara Streisand and Jane Fonda

I like this.

Sure. You guys can start up slavery again. Are you sure that wasn't written by Toby Keith?

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Unless robots or monkey butlers are invented, I'm sure slavery can be brought back in a big way.

Maybe the homeless? Back to debtors prisons?

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Rednecks support slavery. This letter supports rednecks. You support the letter.

A red flag went up for me.

Do you support slavery?

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Of all the posts I've made about Liberty, you seriously are asking that question? Show me a Redneck that supports Slavery. Yes, you may find one that is racist, but I highly doubt you'll find one that supports Slavery and It seems you are just using your own prejudice to support your backwards hatred for freedom.

well usually a racist individual has no compunction about slavery because they view that race as "less than"....so in their mind its not really slavery.....if the states do not want to accept the stimulus money, fine, don't....their residents can voice their displeasure or consent come election time

I was born in Tyler deep in East Texas. Raised in Rains County. I've known and am related to alot of rednecks. They are a racist lot and I've seen it with my own eyes. So don't try to spin the nature of what rednecks are.

There is an old redneck saying.

"Hell, I like ******s. I think everyone oughta own two or three."

Everything in that letter reeks of White Supremecist ********. It's jingoistic and it smells like a big steaming pile of Evil.

States Rights was a euphemism used in the Civil War. What it really meant was Slavery.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

The Letter is about the Conservative/Libertarians leaving the Socialist/Liberal/Progressives to their own devices. I don't know how he even can see this as a Race issue other than he just wants to bring it up to deter the conversation with his seemingly own backwards sense that "If you are not Liberal, your Rasist" crap. It's a ridiculous assertion to say that when the letter has absolutely nothing to say about Race. It's insulting that he would even ask if I support Slavery.

This letter is says nothing that Altas Shrugged doesn't say. Those that Produce and Create Wealth Leave those that punish them. I see this as a humorous attempt at talking about a John Galt movement. There is nothing in here that talks about Civil War, or Slavery. You are race baiting.

Well it doesn't have to be Race this time. Muslims make nice slaves. Just start enslaving anyone who isn't Judeo-Christian. They won't be going to Heaven when the Rapture happens anyway. We'll just tack a statute into the South Carolina state constitution that says, "Arbeit Macht Frei".

I grew up in Canton, Texas, Van Zandt Countyseat..in good ole East Texas..and I know ALOT of people who many would consider rednecks, who are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. My parents moved me there because of the busing happening in Dallas, and many of my schoolmates were black, white, etc.....and we all had a grand time growing up in a small town where the men sit outside around the courthouse played dominos all day long, and we *****ed about First Monday Trades Day every first monday of the month. I remember in high school when we had a group move in from Dallas hoping to start a drug trading ring starting with our school, some of our football players, black and white took a few of these guys out behind the football field one Friday night and beat the hell out of them. They had no problems with race, they did have a problem with asses from Dallas coming in and screwing up a good clean school at the time.

I absolutely hate generalizations, because they always lump in some very good, gracious, nice people into a group that the very people I speak of would absolutely despise.

I know alot has changed in Canton over the past couple of decades, but as far as my growing up years there....I wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else.

Canton? Good lord, AF. This is getting weird. Know any Morris' out there? :D

As to what you were saying, I know the people you are talking about and they are not Rednecks.

That's Country Folk.

:o

Why do you condem ALL Conservative/Libertarians because of a distorted view that just because some rednecks are racists and Conservative, that ALL Conservatives are like that? That's like me saying all Liberals want all Jews dead because Hitler was a liberal.

when I hear self declared Conservatives saying the President shouldn't come to Mississippi "because he's the wrong color"....it doesn't paint a positive picture....or calling gay people "Sinners who deserve to burn in hell"....it doesn't paint a positive picture

This might come across as incendiary to some, but I am going to say it...

The classical liberal tradition is predicated on individualism. As such you recognize everyone as an individual no matter how much you agree or disagree with them. Value a man by his action as you would want someone to value you by your actions.

The new age progressives collectivists I argue are always the ones who groups people into races, genders, sexual orientation and classes. Men oppressing women, multiculturalism and group rights, slave owners to slaves, big businesses oppressing small workers, and will of the majority.

Always fracturing people into groups.

How certain groups deserve more or less by virtue of being in a group of some kind. We are expected to treat a black man or a women in a special way just because he or she has membership by birth, yet we are supposed to be color and gender blind and treat him or her as you would anyone else.

Equal opportunity is not equal outcome. This is the cognitive dissonance of collectivism.

Knowing this, ask yourself honestly, which of these types of thinking - the individualist to the collectivist - sow the seeds to problems like racism or slavery?

One needs to remember something, the old Republican guard used to be the secular libertarian, and the Democrats were the Religious populist. The progressives were the fringe. Oh how times have changed.
