It'll 'survive' immigration. It always has.

Global warming and rising sea levels are the true problem.

Gavin better be damn careful about who he appoints. If he appoints one of the people running next year, he's going to take a lot of heat for putting his finger on the scale. The smart move is to appoint someone who will commit to not running in 2024.

Did he get a lot of flack for nominating Alex Padilla to replace Kamala Harris in the U.S. Senate? He’s going to get a lot of flack no matter who he appoints to fill DiFi’s remaining time in office.

Yeah.....he caught some. He replaced Kamala with Padilla, but, personally, I think Alex was a good, solid choice. He isn't perfect, but is generally a good guy.

RIP Feinstein

But holy crap, she should have retired years ago! It got to a point where they were pretty much pulling a Weekend At Bernie’s with her

Newsom is the return of Bill Clinton 1990s politics.
They have decades between them, but I would still argue that, even relatively speaking, Newsom is clearly to the left of Clinton. He'll be labeled as some raging socialist, but is, to me, a rather centrist Dem who moderates his views in order to get elected.

I'm probably looking at Walz, Shapiro, Whitmer, Pritzker, and some others before I'm looking at Newsom (CA) for 2028 or Harris (CA) either for the 2028 primary campaign.

Yeah, I'm not convinced a Dem from CA is the way to win.

I think the real question is "Who can win?" The unfortunate truth is that people get elected on personality, looks, (generally) gender, (generally) ethnicity, and so forth. I look at candidates based on policy, but I don't think I'm in the majority. Certainly candidates like Whitmer, Walz, and Shapiro, being from a pivotal part of the country, will be major contenders.

Kamala, frankly, doesn't strike me as someone who inspires others; though I find her very competent.

The main point is to win the WH and the net is wide enough to have candidates who aren't straight, white guys. The bottom line is that no one thought a skinny black dude with a sharp wit would get the nomination, let alone be elected twice. There are a lot of people who can do the job from a policy perspective, but not a lot who can get enough people to vote them into office.

Cue the negative Nancy whining that “she should’ve retired already.”

That seat will stay blue thanks to Gavin Newsom appointing her replacement.
Like RBG, yes she should have. Now Katie Porter can take the seat.

Butler is there now. I think she's going to run for a full six year term next year.

We need folks like Porter and Schiff calling out R shenanigans in the House.
