I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. You want to station an armed police officer at every elementary school (in a country of 300 million), just in case someone might unexpectedly show up to shoot kids? Do people have any idea what that would cost?

What do the cops do in the mean time (i.e. the 99.999999% of the time someone isn't attacking)? Check lunch boxes for narcotics?

Two hands, and now an extra weapon full of bullets in case the others run out.


And at the screening, just pull out the gun and shoot them. Then go on in.


The effectiveness of guards is going to be iffy at best. And not matter how effective they are, it still means a gunman is on school grounds.

The catch is, you'd need a security team that maintains constant contact, plus an emergency system to get anyone in the hallways into the nearest classroom. This is assuming the shootings become more than simple anomalies.

Paradoxium, was he involved in a mall shooting? I did read about a concealed carry guy who ducked behind a pillar when a shooter went off. While the gun was jammed, Concealed Carry popped out with his gun trained on the shooter. The shooter panicked and shot himself.

Putting armed guards in schools huh? Sounds like just the environment I'd want my kids in. Get an education and learn what it was like to live in an occupied country. Boy howdy!

Maybe the should teach killers how to kill more efficiently without a gun. That way it will prevent more school shooting deaths. Molotovs can nail a group of children faster. Unfortunately the trade off is, the media gives less of a ****. So you don't get your 15 minutes.

Yep Meli prevented it with his conceal and carry. There are other cases like this where the majority of the time, the CCW manage to prevent without firing a shot. Of course no one really reports cases of massacre prevention.

They already are cutting schools budgets drastically. Here in PA Corbett cut all the school budgets by 6-7% across the board the first year, then the second by 4-5%. Every single school. That's how silly this notion is of paying to hire security guards on top of the other costs they already don't want to pay.

My local elementary hired a security guard now after Sandy Hook. The guy's about 60, obese, and has a .45 on his hip. No body armor, of course. Someone with an assault rifle need only shoot him twice in the chest from some little distance and then proceed on their merry murdering way.

Outlaw the damn things already.

They should at least upgrade door frames, use deadbolts and have window meshes. You invest in that, it's good to go for a long time. It's not a perpetual financial liability.

To be fair, the officers would be at the entrances/in the hallways. So its not like they're breathing down the kids' necks. Baramos, I feel there should be a physical fitness standard for these hypothetical guards. You're right that an obese officer is an easy target.

I propose a tax to pay for the security team.
