yes, but this isn't a new concept like say abortion that didn't exist back then. The 2nd Ammendment was created for very specific situations. Now most people find the idea of needing to fight the gov. absurd and I would agree that right now it is, but my feeling is times can and do change and if so I sure as hell don't want to find myself weak as a kitten with GPS monitors inside everything I own, that would suck.

We all know why the 2nd ammendment is there, it might not be spelled out specifically (cause after the revolution I doubt anyone thought the reasoning wouldn't be crystal clear) but we know the intent and the reason the law exists. Maybe reinterpretting things would work, maybe it wouldn't and that's a different discussion, but the here and now is you want to change the 2nd ammendment to what you'd like it to mean rather than it's intent.

And why is this? Because once you've made that decission all ammendments are up for a new interpretation based on what we feel they should be. Maybe we'll improve them, maybe we'll make them worse, all I have to say is right now they work and I'd rather not **** around with it.

Thanks to recent laws the bill of rights is right now an illegal document which by law must be destroyed. Not all new laws or ideas make sense or help us, some are just as stupid as wearing powdered wigs and velvet suits in 90 degree weather.

You're not doing a great job at it.

If you buy a house with a 30 year mortage, do you change the contract at year 25 just because you don't like the terms anymore? No, you don't. The Constitution is a Contract between the People and the State.

But the writers of the constitution didn't say "here's how people should interpret it 230 years later, if things pop up that we didn't foresee" and include that writing with each copy of the constitution when the state legislatures ratified it.

To me, that shows that there isn't a "set in stone" manner of interpreting the constitution. Hence, people making a living discussing how to interpret it.

You can't modernize them they are timeless they are a form of expression unlike guns which change. Ill tell you this our forefathers would not have created such a law if they new how deadly our modern weapons would be. If they knew that a child could easily use a gun.............we always have to change for the modern times...conservatives will never understand this.

Read the federalist papers. They help explain it but to quickly answer your questions it would appear that it wasn't a right. Hence why our founding fathers wrote it into our Constitution. To protect our country first and foremost against Enemies of our country. The second reason no one likes to hear because it's 'crazy'.

Again, how can you make such a statement? Our founding fathers protected the right to arms so Americans had the ability to kill people. Also children fought in the revolutionary war...so I don't think they were afraid of children being able to use guns.
