Discussion: WikiLeaks

They found some kind of little critter at the bottom of a California lake that can swap phosphorous salt to arsenic and live.

So theirs LIFE ON MARS......or something.....*major eye roll*

so, I tried to ask this before, but are things like Wikileaks only 'bad' when they expose secrets of the 'good' countries? What if they exposed some kind of plot like Operation Northwoods, to use an example that craigdbfan mentioned in another thread.

Have people calling for this guy's head ever viewed Wikileaks before they started exposing info from 'good' countries? I think the tune would be much different if they knew how much corruption and other bad **** has been dug up because of people at Wikileaks.

Fun fact: During the Cold War, the CIA had contingency plans in place to overthrow the Canadian government if the NDP won an election.

You're not going to get a response. People just willingly ignore things like that, especially things like Operation Northwoods. That's the only explanation I can come up with. They cannot cope with the ramifications of something like that, because if that was actually fact (and it is, but in their world it's just another wacko conspiracy theory) then how could anyone realistically EVER trust or believe in our government again? Too much thinking to do for us, too much to ask. Doesn't matter now anyway.

What he has done at this point is equal to espionage. They have committed a crime, I don't give a **** what they've done in the past, what they've done leaking this information is against the law.

What they might have started as, has turned into something far different. The information they are leaking today, is far above their heads and ability to understand the consequences.

As far as his personal problems, they may be his bigger problem at this point.

Well, at least I tried.

If Assange did not play a role in removing the classified State Department cables but instead just received them "over the transom," as would be the case with newspapers that routinely publish even stolen government documents, then he has committed no crime under your law.

And, ironically, it was President Obama who promised during his 2008 presidential campaign greater transparency in government. So it's hypocritical to scream and threaten to prosecute WikiLeaks.

There is transparency and then there is stupidity.

We do not need to know everything nor should we....sorry but the Obama Transparency argument is ridiculous and weak.

Leaking classified information is against the law. Plain and simple.

He did not break any American laws. He’s not even an American citizen. They’ll have a hard time getting anything on Assange.

What’s funny is that the US Gov is promoting the whole thing by speaking about it. Their cries of injustice only serve to advertise it all. The only crime committed here is when American Politicians accuse someone of criminal activity for possibly exposing their own criminal activity.

Really? That seems kinda shady to me.

Are you kidding....????? You really feel like you need to know all that our military does? Really?

Our military cannot tell you everything, our state department cannot tell you everything....that is just ridiculous. They would not be as effective if they did, and the fact that you feel you need to know all, tells me you really know nothing of how they must work to get done what we need, and keep us safe. But, my thinking is, you are now arguing just to argue, with little meat in it.

You know what puts people's lives in danger, threatens our national security, and undermines our efforts to work with other countries to solve shared problems more than some website releasing gossipy secret text messaging conversations between high-ranking officials?

1. War.

2. The occupation of formerly sovereign nations without any measurable progress towards an end that benefits all involved parties.

3. The invasion of countries for reasons unclear or patently false.

4. The refusal to issue a forthright admission of fault in launching said invasions.

5. The continued presence of an military presence in countries with whom we're supposedly trying to foster non-violent and diplomatic relations.

6. The non-stop financial infusion of the American defense budget, turning the message of "we'll lay down our sword, you lay down yours and we'll discuss the matter" to "don't mess with the bull or you get the horns."

7. The presence of both our soldiers, who will always, not through their own fault, be seen as "the infidel," in a part of the world where such a presence is seen as one of the most egregiously aggressive acts possible.

8. The misguided insistence that we know more about other cultures than they know about themselves.

All of these things are a far greater threat more likely to send us to early graves than a god damn website.

That is a whole other debate, of which we would probably agree on most things.

I agree, it's obvious we are both passionate about our political beliefs. I'll admit, it's nice to know that we agree on somethings. I hate leaving the forums "miffed" lol.

Well, when it comes to war....I am probably the biggest "pink" member here so to speak.

I'm not a member of "pink" but I certainly hate war as much as they do. I have never been for the US in Iraq or Afghanistan. I think we could have done what was needed in Afghanistan with the Seals, drones, and other Special Ops groups....we didn't need to go in and take over the country. We could have also taken out Hussein without an all out war.

So, to be clear, I think our military has a place in our foreign policy, but I have never been for wars just to go to war.

War is their best business. Detach any kind of human emotion from that idea, that's how they think. Loss of life is just as arbritary as a baseball stat.

All this crap would make a great Brian De Palma movie.
It's probably just going to become even more interesting in the not too distant future.

Well, since this psycho says he has a "poison pill" so to speak if our government tries to shut him down......who knows.

But, one thing I do know, this guy is showing himself to be the psycho I figured he was.

I thought it was clever. People are wanting him hunted down like a terrorist, one fellow implied he should be assassinated, websites are getting denial of serice attacks, amazon, paypal and others are attempting to block him. It's looking pretty bleak. By spreading it out there like butter, no matter how hard they try, the information probably will come out even if he goes byebye.

Well, he is definitely using information in a negative way.......and from his quotes I don't know that his motives are to get information out to the people that we so desperately need. His motives seem to be something else...

He's an anarchist punk. He probably plans on releasing his "info bomb" to the public anyway, and he's just waiting for an excuse to do it.

Anything about Freemasons, nwo, etc?

Nope, which is why most tinfoil hats think that he's part of "the conspiracy" rather than a response against it.

Assange has a face only a rapist or child molester can love.
