This was my favorite article so far about the whole Muppets vs. Fox kerfuffle. Besides the fact that it's been referred to as a kerfuffle, because that word is awesome.

The Muppets Strike Back Against Fox News

Last month, Fox News ran a segment complaining that The Muppets was “brainwashing” kids against capitalism because they had the gall to have an oil company executive as the bad guy. (Psst… nobody tell them about the new Dallas series coming to TV).

This is, of course, ridiculous. Kermit and Piggy, as well as the rest of the gang, have always exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit. Kermit managed to make a success out of the Muppet Show and its ancillary marketing despite a ton of obstacles in his path, including amnesia, Frog Leg moguls, and the attempted theft of the Baseball Diamond. Miss Piggy has been a fashion icon for decades now, and as we learn in the new film, she’s been spending her days as the Editor-In-Chief of Paris Vogue.

Perhaps Fox should pay attention to the fact that the Muppets have always been a strong voice for opportunity. Their foes have been those in the business world who routinely use fraud, coercion, and cronyism to succeed where they’d be unable to on the open market. Kids need to learn that sometimes their competitors in business and in life will cheat to get their way. The important lesson, though, is that you never stoop to that level – be honest and true to yourself, you stand up to the bad guys, and then you succeed. Indeed, being yourself and standing up to evil is success.

And honestly, if Fox hadn't started this whole nonsense by airing a nasty, cruel, mean-spirited, completely untrue, and blatantly stupid segment about the movie in the first place, then this never would have happened.

They're trying to play the liberal media bias card here, because this silliness backfired and blew up in their faces, but no one is on their side in this. I doubt that even the Andrew Breitbart's of the world really mean it when they try to defend it.

Seriously, this is what they ended up sounding like:

That pretty much sums it up.

Report: Fox Business News Cancels Primetime Lineup
By THE DEADLINE TEAM | Thursday February 9, 2012 @ 9:20pm PST

Fox Business Network scrapped its entire primetime lineup today, the New York Times reported. Beginning February 20, a repeat of the 5PM to 8PM block of shows fronted by Gerri Willis, Neil Cavuto and Lou Dobbs will replace political programming in the 8PM to 11PM slot. The Willis, Cavuto and Dobbs programs tend to feature Republican politicians and conservative commentators as guests, but they are less overtly political than shows they are replacing. Those programs are Freedom Watch with Andrew Napolitano, Power & Money with David Asman and Follow the Money with Eric Bolling. All three will remain contributors in other regular slots. Fox Business News last year had an average of 54,000 total viewers in primetime. Rival CNBC had an average of 228,000 primetime viewers.

Well, now The Lorax is in trouble.

I should call my sister and let her know that she shouldn't let my nephew read a book with the lines "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not"

Because that's an awful thing to learn, right?

Can they just shut up already?

Lou Dobbs bashes ‘The Lorax’ and ‘Secret World of Arrietty’ for ‘indoctrinating liberal agenda’

Fox Business host sees President's 'liberal friends in Hollywood' as targeting their messages at kids

In the Dr. Seuss book, the Lorax speaks for trees, "for the trees have no tongues."

Lou Dobbs, on the other hand, most definitely has a tongue and he's not afraid to wield it against the beloved children's character.

On a segment of Dobbs’ Fox Business Network show Tuesday night that was flagged by the advocacy group Media Matters, the cantankerous conservative pundit bashed two new animated movies as an example how Hollywood "once again is trying to indoctrinate our children.”

Dobbs lambasted Disney's "The Secret World of Arrietty," a Japanese film that opened last Friday, for its story about a 4-inch-tall family of "borrowers" who take items from humans without paying for them. Universal's "The Lorax," opening March 2, "is about a woodland creature who speaks for the trees and fights rampant industrialism," Dobbs said, emphasizing the last two words.

"Where have we heard this before?" asked Dobbs. "Occupy Wall Street forever tried to put the makers against the takers and President Obama repeating that everyone should pay their fair share in dozens of speeches since his State of the Union address last month.

"The President's liberal friends in Hollywood targeting a younger demographic using animated movies to sell their agenda to children."

Turning to his three guests, Dobbs found sympathy for his arguments.

"What we're doing is creating Occu-toddlers," right-wing talk-show host Matt Patrick said. "Here's what I would recommend. If you want to go see the movie and we all know what the agenda is, buy huge tubs of popcorn, ram it in your face, they're all made of paper, you crinkle it all up, throw it on the floor, you walk out. You spend all kinds of money on stuff and you leave it on the floor. ... I mean you go into the movie theaters and you actually fight back against this message."

It's not the first time the network has picked on a children's movie. During the Dec. 2 broadcast of Fox Business' "Follow the Money," host Eric Bolling claimed the “The Muppets” was being used by liberals to “brainwash” America’s children with a socialist message.

“The Muppets are back and being terrorized by an evil oil executive in their new movie,” said Bolling. “Liberal Hollywood depicting a successful businessman as ‘evil,’ that’s not new.”

"The Secret of Arrietty" actually did have a not-so-secret message — at least in Japan, where the movie was created by Studio Ghibli for that country's audiences, director Hiromasa Yonebayashi recently told the Daily News.

"The first thing [studio head Hayao] Miyazaki told me is that nowadays [Japanese] people are into buying things and a very materialistic way of living," Yonebayashi said. "And in this particular [economic] time it might be very important to create this kind of story where little people borrow a bit from other people."

Btw, how do we blame Obama for a story that was written in 1971?

They blame Obama for every single thing in the history of the universe. It has become comical how insane this cretins are.

Only suckers pick on children stories.

I'm telling you, Jim Henson saw them coming...

You don't know much about Dungeons and Dragons do you, Danoyse? They have characters called Chosen, who are powerful wizards favored by a certain god. Obama, being a Chosen of Allah, obviously has a spell of time traveling.

That Secret World of whatever looked like a perfectly innocent and well-animated film. It is sad that people can't just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is without making up agendas. :csad:

Yeah, Universal's marketing team for this movie seems to be made up of people who never read the book.

But...look what a group of these "indoctrinated" kids did about their website:

Victory for 'the Lorax': Change.Org Helps Students' Petition Reach Hollywood

The fourth-graders in Ted Wells' class were thrilled to find out the Dr. Seuss environmental tale, "The Lorax," was being turned into a movie, but when a visit to the film's website uncovered not one mention of trees, the students headed to Change.org.

"I am the Lorax, and I'll yell and I'll shout for the fine things on Earth that are on their way out!" says the Lorax in the book.

The Dr. Seuss character "spoke for the trees," so in mid-December, Wells' Park School class in Brookline, Mass., decided to speak for the Lorax and environmentalists everywhere.

They launched a petition online at Change.org -- a social media website where supporters post petitions in hopes of getting change from governments or corporations.

Last year, petitions on the site won battles over Bank of America's bank fees and Verizon's online payment fees.

'Green Up' This Website

The kids aimed for the same success -- asking that Universal Studios add an environmental message to the film's promotional website.

"We're encouraging Universal to make an improved 'Lorax' movie website that Dr. Seuss would be proud of," read the students' petition on Change.org.

"This movie can show the world we should not take our sky, water, trees and animals for granted," it read. "We think Universal Pictures needs to 'green up' this website."

Word spread about the petition and more than 57,000 people added their signatures. Then Universal took notice. Alongside the movie clips are now tips on saving the planet and, specifically, the trees.

Universal told ABC News that although it had planned to add environmental tips, the petition had expedited the marketing campaign and gotten the tips added to the website more quickly.

"Mr. Wells and his [fourth-grade] class are wonderful messengers for the Lorax and we're pleased to have them as allies in raising awareness to the important message of Dr. Seuss's beloved children's book," a Universal spokesperson said in an email.

Wasn't this a better idea than the jerk on the Fox News segment telling families to drop their garbage on the floor of the movie theater in protest?

Raped too much? Is she suggesting that there is an acceptable level of rape?

I can't believe I just heard a woman tell me that protecting women from being raped wasn't an important issue.

Murdoch resigns from News Corp. subsidiary boards

LONDON - Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has resigned as a director of a number of News Corp. subsidiary boards in Britain and the United States, a spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.

Murdoch stepped down this past week as a director of NI Group, Times Newspaper Holdings and News Corp. Investments in the U.K., said Daisy Dunlop, spokeswoman for News Corp.'s British arm, News International. The companies oversee Britain's newspapers The Sun, The Times, and The Sunday Times.

It was not immediately clear which of News Corp.'s U.S. boards Murdoch had left. Britain's Telegraph newspaper, which first reported the news late Saturday, said those details had not yet been disclosed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

News International sought to play down the significance of the resignations, saying in a statement that "this is nothing more than a corporate housecleaning exercise prior to the company split."

That was a reference to News Corp.'s announcement June 28 that it would separate its publishing business from its much more profitable media and entertainment business — forming two distinct, publicly traded companies. Under those proposed changes, Murdoch, 81, will chair both of the companies, although he would continue as chief executive of the media and entertainment company only.

Saturday's announcement suggests that Murdoch may be distancing himself from his British newspaper interests, which have been shaken to the core by a widespread phone hacking scandal.

The scandal erupted anew last year when it emerged that Murdoch's now-defunct News of the World tabloid had systematically hacked voicemails of politicians and celebrities. The revelations have rocked Britain's establishment and triggered three parallel police investigations that have resulted in more than 40 arrests.

Illegal eavesdropping allegations at the News of the World led to the resignation of Rebekah Brooks, then-CEO of News International, who has been accused of perverting justice in the scandal.

I dont see how this changes much. The company may have been split but Murdoch is still at the top of the two new companies. Even if he were completely removed, the culture he left in the company would still be there.

This seems like a cosmetic change.

That was incredibly stupid.....not enough face palms out there....

Those girls are clearly rehearsed to say what they want. We'll if there were no trees to get the wood for that lemonade stand built. They need outside help to get the lemons from trees that were given insecticide, fertilizer, ranchers to grow them, pickers to harvest them, trucks to distribute them, and stores to hire them. Not to mention their parents had to supervise and help them get the job done safely. There are also roads paved with tax payer money by some local government where traffic from their customers along the lemonade stand would come from and cars manufactured in other countries and shipped to the United States, bought by American consumers, fueled by them, and driven near their stand by them too etc. It sounds like the Presidents thoughts are correct in this category too.

Well, I eat Chick-fil-A a lot. Luckily I didn't today.

But yeah, it reminds me of the "boycott" of JC Penneys when the had Ellen DeGeneres as the spokeswoman.
