Exclusive: Disney Channel Eyes Boy Meets World Sequel Series, Ben Savage In Early Talks
by Kimberly Roots

The world has met Cory Matthews — is it time now to meet his daughter?

The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Sources say that the cable network is trying to land original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run. The new series would center on their preteen daughter.

Since wrapping Boy, Savage’s TV guest-star gigs have included Bones, Chuck and Without a Trace. Fishel’s post-Boy work includes National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze and hosting Style Network’s The Dish.
Whaaaaaaaaat?

Euuuuch, I hate myself for saying this but I'd give it a look. My childhood demands it.

Yeah, it being on the Disney channel means it'll most likely suck, but some of the cast reuniting in character? I have to give that a look.

I guess it would not be hard to get the originals back

It is kind of insane to think of Savage and Fishel being old enough to play parents to a preteen, though...

I can imagine the show being something like. Cory & Topanga taking over the parents role. With Eric living with them. Then instead of Mr. Feeny next door. Its Shawn living with Jack

Well if Saved By The Bell The College Years proved us is that sequel series don't tend to do well.

Because Saved by the Bell was such a great series to begin with...

Compared to Saved by the Bell? Absolutely!

I don't understand the logic behind making this show possible on the Disney Channel.

I'm excited.

Because the original show was Disney too, and ABC just doesn't really do shows like this anymore.

Yeah, but I mean the target audience is likely not going to care about its connection to BMW. GMW will probably be like any new show they make for the channel.

Then, you have the fans of the old show. Would they really be interested in watching a Disney Channel show for kids? I mean, I highly doubt it'll be like BMW. I'm sure there will be plenty of viewers at the start just out of curiosity.

So, overall I don't see much point in making it connected to BMW.

And without looking up their ages, Cory and Topanga seem young to be parents of a preteen. :funny: At least with the way these shows are when it comes to the ages of the parents.

If they asked him to, would Lee Norris come back to play Minkus? I would think that after a run on One Tree Hill, I would think not.

Make him the new Mr. Feeny.

Everything has to be upgraded: it's now Man Meets Universe.

Is it wrong to hope the Corey/Topanga/daughter relationship mirrors the Tobias/Lindsay/Maeby relationship on AD? I could see that really working...

I'm thinking ABC Family could've been a better channel for this (if they're targeting a family audience instead of just kids).

But Disney Channel airs re-runs of Boy Meets World to this day?

So I really don't get the worries of it being on Disney Channel.

Disney wants the tone of the original series probably so I can't see them changing it to fit their current stuff THAT much like I'm seeing people running around screaming about on the rest of the internet.

Disney has been on a role when it comes to reviving classics that people never thought they'd see again...Star wars and now Boy Meets World...what's next?

You know the internet. Obviously all of our childhoods can and will be irreparably damaged by stuff that happens in our adulthood. :o
