Disney to bring Cinderella back in live action

Oh glad to hear this is good. I wasn't expecting much as the original is fairly dull and the trailers didn't look interesting. Prior to hearing that it's good, I was just going to see it for the short. :funny:

Clearly you've never dated an Asian girl before. :o

Being a straight woman myself, no, can't say that I have. :)

I just don't get how they can classify Mulan as a princess when she isn't one. But it's all a marketing tool anyway...

I think you're probably right. "Disney Princess" is just the brand, and they're wanting to get their key female characters under that. It is slightly pigeon-holing her to fit in, but that would mean she would have nowhere to go otherwise, so they're just overlooking the technicalities.

Mulan's story isn't over though. I'm sure Zhang Yimou has a live-action script in the works where Mulan and Shang ascend to royalty through a scheme of poisonings, eye gougings and baby murders. Ah, Chinese history, gotta love it.

How much of that will be people who just go for the Frozen short and then leave before Cinderella starts?

Mostly will be kids with their parents so I highly doubt it. That's too 'fanboy'.

Cinderella is like one of those girly fantasy things that's been around for decades. Chicks will go see it.

Us Frozen fanatics will go for the short and stay for the "bonus" showing of Cinderella.:cwink:

I hope this is as good as it looks and ends up being a success. From trailers and TV spots, it looks FAAAAR better than either Alice (boring/dreary/abundance of unimpressive CG/that Mad Hatter dance was an assault on my senses) or Oz The Great And Powerful (not terrible, but I felt no need to ever watch it again when I was done).

Oz the Great and Power proved that Raimi has a very specific voice, and that he's not a good fit for some movies.

I really enjoy Alice, but I finally watched Oz a few months ago and I couldn't believe how terrible it was. I was so disappointed, the most positive thing I can say about it is Rachel Weisz was in it. I love me some Rachel Weisz.

Tim Burton and Sam Raimi are great directors (although Tim certainly has been up and down since the turn of the century) and Kenneth Branagh is also a great director. Here's hoping Branagh can create the best live-action Disney fairy tale yet, and create a domino effect of more great ones. Alice, Oz, and Maleficent I have such mixed feelings about overall, the potential is there for things to be so much better than they are.

I've never read 'I really enjoy Alice' before. You just change me.

Just realized Annie Leibovitz did the photo for the one-sheet, which explains how good it looks (compared to many Photoshopped posters these days). It's similar to the Disney Parks one she did with Scarlett Johansson a few years back.

Oz was waaaayyyyy better than alice. Alice was garbage. Crap story, crap acting and crap 3d.

Yeah, I actually really liked Oz, much more so than Alice. I didn't HATE Alice like a lot of people do, but it certainly wasn't a great movie either. Oz made me like Raimi again after the disaster that was Spider-Man 3.

Girls of all ages will fall in love with #Cinderella, the most magical Disney film in years. Classy, elegant, and well done.

When the first trailer was released I wasn't impressed and didn't understand why they would include the twist in the trailer, but after seeing some of the other trailers I see that they have changed quite a bit and it actually looks pretty good. I wasn't expecting to see such good early reviews either and it could change but so far its looking pretty good for Cinderella.

Not too impressed by the trailer, but that poster looks great, and it's good to see that the reviews are being very positive. Only thing i realy am not expecting much of is the step mother, in the original she was just amazing:

Doesn't look as threatening in the new film.

Jesus, she's like the devil.

This is getting great reviews. Happy for Branagh, Cate, and Lily.

I won't be skipping out on this like I did Maleficent (much like Tron: Legacy, Maleficent is one of those films I regret not seeing in theaters now. I'll never or never felt the need to see Alice and Oz based on reviews and feedback. But should I?).

ETA: It's been a while so maybe I'm confused but is Disney doing a live-action Peter Pan? I could have sworn I read that somewhere, again it's been a good while, and it seems like one those stories I've read here and there that a few studios are doing their take on.
