Wow, what shocking news to wake up too. Disney could be running Marvel!
How could this effect the present rights to Sony and FOX?
How could this effect potential Producers, Directors, and filming sights?
How about content and direction of viewing audiences?

Man, this could be huge to have Disney's money behind some of these projects or it could silly down the subject matter. I hope not on the later.

Perhaps we see some movement into TV?

What do you think?

This is huge news.

I suspect though that it doesn't affect any of the existing contracts. I wouldn't hold out much hope for Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, or Captain America to appear as Disney movies anytime soon, although perhaps as co-productions. I could see Disney reacquiring the rights to Fantastic Four though.

I also think that Disney is going to demand first look at all properties and that's probably going to slow the rate of Marvel movies coming out, just like DC and WB. Dr. Strange and the Disney brand is an odd fit. As are many of the horror titles from the 70s. Disney may retain the Marvel Studios brand just for those types of films.

I expect a few more Marvel cartoons will end up on Disney. Doubtful as to live action, although Dazzler would fit the Disney channel demographic.

THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!

And you thought the defunct JLA movie was skewing too young? Wait till Disney starts puting Mousketeers in as our favorite Marvel characters. Or worse, the High School Musical alumns, or even worse than that...crap like Hannah Montana!! This is the apocalypse!! Did being chained to one studio do much for the DC characters? NO!

I think we the fans are gonna get screwed big time!

I remember asking a while back what comic book should Disney attempt to take on, now it seems that little question has become a hellish reality tenfold. But if they maintain what they did on movies like POTC, National Treasure, and the upcoming Tron, it may work.

I can't believe I didn't think of this first but, DC has been doing a fine job on their animated direct movies lately. I wonder if this deal could kick-start Marvels animated planes? Hmmm, that I would welcome with open arms, even if it only ups the frequancy.

Haha, a decade or so down the road and we'll look back and say "And to think the last Wolverine film was watered down...":hehe:

Besides Iron man 2 every other planned Marvel Studio projects are now In
doudt.

Disney may sue or offer money to The fantastic Four,Daredevil, and Sub-Marniner.Despite talk nothing Is happening with them.

Sony will keep Spider-Man and Fox will keep X-Men.

Kevin Feigre and other Marvel film people will likely be out.

And does anyone have faith In the final prodects from Disney?

I wonder if this will affect the Marvel Superheroes theme park section of Universal Studios Islands of Adventure.

Anyway, Disney = scary, but Pixar = good, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Good point Terry, I wonder how Disney would proceed? Will Marvel be incorperated under one of their current banners or given one of their own... like "Marvel Productions". In any event I hope they don't tamper with Mavels input like Warners has with DC

I don't like it. I see how WB has been scrambling for years to do something with their DC propreties, and they had YEARS to gain experience. I've always appreciated Marvel's independence. It's too early to tell for now how will this affect the entire concept of a Marvel Movie Universe, not to mention the quality of the movies but to be completely sincere... I am worried.

POTC? National Treasure??? God I hope not!! If so this is the apocalypse. Those sucked.

So this means that there is going to be no more Marvel Studios film productions? It is just going to be Disney/Marvel production which means nothing because it is going to be Disney running everything.

I don't like the sound of this but I need more details. How does this effect the films and people working on the films.

I am unsure on what to make of this. If it is just the money, marketing and distribution being handled by Disney then it could be OK, but if they get involved with the creative side of things then this could be terrible. I would not like a Marvel/Pixar collaboration either, as it would probably end up being too watered down. Most of the characters Marvel has left who's rights are not at other Studios seem inappropriate for Disney or Pixar involvement.

apparently the exsisting film deals are still In effect.Fox still has X-Men(although what Is happening with Fantastic Four,Daredevil, and Sub-Mariner
Is In question) and Sony still has SPider-Man(and apparently Ghost Rider)
Unclear about Punisher, and Blade.Paramount will still distrubte Thor,Captain
America, and The avengers as well as Iron Man 2 but Marvel Studios will now
be part of Disney so Disney will still have says In Thor,Captain America, and The Avengers.

Future marvel Animated films will likely be Pixar projects.

Besides Iron Man 2 and the Spider-Man man and X-Men projects the future of Marvel Is really unknown at present.

I don't like this one little bit. I'll try to remain hopeful, but it'll be really, really hard. I trust Marvel Studios. I don't trust Disney.

This is basically how I feel. If Disney just distributes it's all good. But if they change up the characters or anything, I will not be pleased. And they better not scrape the Deadpool movie :( But if Disney can help with budgets that'd be great.

As a fan, I'm scared.

I'd bet anything that Kevin Feige stays on in some capacity. He's done a great job and Marvel has so many things in production at this moment. The only positive I do see (aside from rewarding long term stockholders) is now films like Avengers has incredibly deep pockets to draw from. I'm assuming that Marvel's old financing deal would be put to bed. The Avenger's budget may have just increased so, no penny pinching on casting and FX.

Has Disney ever acquired someone else's property and not changed it? I'm not being a smartass, I just really don't know for sure. Hopefully one of you can answer the question.

I wouldn't worry about that.

UPDATE #1: In a conference call, the companies said that the deals for movies for characters at other studios (Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.) will stay in place under the terms set by Marvel and the other studios.

UPDATE #2: John Lasseter met with Marvel last week about a possible team-up between Marvel and Pixar and got "pretty excited, pretty fast." They say there's definitely an opportunity there.

UPDATE #3: The deal with Paramount Pictures to distribute "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America" and "The Avengers" stays in place as well, but Disney would like to self-distribute down the line. "When the time comes we'll take a closer look at it."

Wow, just when I thought Marvel had pulled itself out a hole, they jump in a moat filled with Gators.

This does not bode well for Marvel fans, at all! I'm sure the stockholders are happy, but the fan's should be furious over this. Disney is a 4 letter word in art and entertainment circles.

Other then their Pixar projects and some of their live action films, this is a bad deal, seeing the state of Disney now. If this was Disney a decade ago, this might have been a great deal. What the hell has happened to Disney within the last decade?

They may have Zac Effron as Peter Parker/Spiderman in the reboot movies lol.

Tcrappy tv shows with crappy actors, and try to make them into stars. With their singing and acting.

They bought Pixar for $7.4 billion. They sure bought Marvel cheap.
