Disney's Haunted Mansion reboot (Justin Simien)

They aren't doing The Haunted Mansion any favors here on the surface Just outside looking in this is probably going to be another family comedy just like the last one. Ghostbusters 2016 was okay at best to me as well.

I do not want a family comedy at all this time but rather a Horror/Adventure film that's preferably PG-13.

So... Kevin Hart as the lead most likely?

I was about to say this :funny:

Yeah, I don't expect this to be much different. Maybe better but in the ways that really count? Not really.

I think Dippold is a good writer. Usually writers get blamed for a bad movie, but I just don't think she's right for this given her past work. Del Toro was spot on, but I think he's too much for what they currently make.

Directors usually get the rightful blame for bad movies from fans. Most people online talking about movies know Paul Feig. They don't know this woman.

So we can expect awful forced "humor", obnoxious characters, and no decent scares.
Man, I was hoping to get something along the lines of Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark

It was PG-13 which is what I’m sure Haunted Mansion is aiming for, but had the right blend of scares and creepiness that would totally work on a PG-13 Disney movie. That’s also a film Guillermo Del Toro also produced and worked on, so I’m sure he would have gone the same route with Haunted Mansion

I really want to give this movie a chance but just going by the writer’s track record, I don’t have much hope. Haunted Mansion could make for an awesome movie in the right hands.

Though to be honest, it would work even better as a Disney+ anthology series with each episode focusing on the different ghosts found throughout the mansion

The Heat is good to me but honestly I'm expecting 2003 redux here. I don't want a straight comedy.

Yeah, my level of excitement for this has now completely tanked. Has Del Toro ever indicated if he used his ideas for the Haunted Mansion movie in his Crimson Peak script? I always just assumed something happened with this movie so he took his ideas and turned them into an original script.

What a complete waste if this turns out to be similar to the 2003 movie. What would be the point of rebooting it then if you're not going in a different direction?

Oh right, because Disney is soulless and craves money. :o

Disney is no worse than any other major studio. If it's not a live action Disney branded movie it's typically pretty good.

Disney and Warners also are the only ones doiing anything with TV animation besides Netflix basically. Nickelodeon is creatively bankrupt and gets rewarded with the highest ratings of the three rival children's networks.

Meanwhile, Disney and Cartoon Network innovate and produce the best cartoons of the last decade. Amphibia or The Owl House wouldn't be caught dead on Nick that's for sure. You have to go to Netflix to see Nickelodeon do much of anything besides drive SpongeBob into the ground or clone The Loud House.

Then Disney Channel also has Big City Greens, Big Hero 6: The Series, and DuckTales as well.

...okay? I didn't say anything specifically bad about their animation department.

Again though it's like how bad is the MCU or Stars really? What has Universal or Paramount really been doing? You've got A24 I guess.

‘Bad Hair’ Director Justin Simien to Direct Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ – Deadline

Disney’s latest film revolving around its iconic Haunted Mansion theme park attraction is gaining more life as the studio is in negotiations Justin Simien to direct the new movie based on the ride. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the live-action hit Aladdin, are producing through their Rideback banner with Nick Reynolds of Rideback exec producing. Katie Dippold penned the most recent draft.

Uh oh!

I don't want to link Tiffany Haddish directly that this will be a broad comedy like the 2003 film, but it feels like they're going down that path again.

I can't believe Disney had Del Toro willing to make a film based on their theme park ride and let that slip away.
