I know it sounds silly, but it's true; Moana Pozzi is (well, was... she's dead now) kind of a cultural icon over here. You literally cannot google the name Moana without finding yourself looking at pictures (a few of them even quite explicit) of her. Not even with SafeSearch on.

I spoiled myself and flipped through the novelization at the Disney store earlier. Per the marketing norm they are truly playing up the wacky sidekick aka Maui. Moana does most of the heavy lifting regarding fighting villains. The dynamic is very similar to Aladdin and Genie only a little more antagonistic.

I don't think Pixar really plans to make any musicals. Pixar's environmental effects department, that handles water, light, grass etc is second to none.

I think so too.

This is probably not a conclusive evidence of what's to come but the CriticsChoice score for Moana is 70, whereas Finding Dory is at 89 and Zootopia is at 91.
