Disney's next animated feature...Discworld?

Haven't read discworld myself, but heard so many good things about it. Sounds like Disney's really mining some good stuff.

Interesting, but we should remember what happened the last time Disney animated a popular fantasy book series. They turned the Black Cauldron into a mess.

Black Cauldron was a LOOOOOOONG time ago.
And they always take liberties when adapting fantasy stories, it's nothing new. None of their fairytale stories are exactly as the original tale.

Personally, never heard of Discworld, and the article barely gives much input on what the story is, so I don't know how I feel about it.

Why must Disney buy up everything I like?

Can anyone sum up discworld? I've heard lots of fascinating high concept stuff about it, but is there any throughfare for everything, or is it just unrelated stories in the same universe?

Pratchett basically created it as a satire of all those Tolkien-esque fantasy books, but it eventually started turning into its own thing for the most part. If Disney maintains some of the humor while keeping it action packed and full of that wonder, should be a cool animated flick.

I haven't watched anything related to discworld but i would surely like to watch it.

You just answered your own question.

I'm hardly the blueprint for the average consumer though. What will Disney buy next I wonder? Lucky Star? Adorable kittens? Lady Gaga?

Anyway, I remember Pratchett said once in an interview he was approached by some American producers to do "Mort" once but he ended up walking out of the interview because they wanted to get rid of Death because "it's too morbid"

Perhaps thats just what this news is about. It was from a long time ago but maybe it only just reached someone who posted it on their blog.

I remember playing a Discworld computer game back in the 90s. That's pretty much my only exposure to the franchise, but I enjoyed it.
