Both are coming out mid December 2016 until someone backtracks.

I guess these deathmatch weekends will become the new normal.

I think in this case, Star Wars as the more established franchise will win. I know Avatar is huge, literally the biggest movie of all time for some reason, but I think Star wars can win it if Episode VII is any good the year before it.

Something tells me Avatar 2 isn't going to be ready by December 2016, hence Disney usurping that spot.

Avatar 2 will the ultimate test to see if it's still big. Literally it has faded out of the pop culture lexicon.

Avatar 2 doesn't matter to me, and I'm not one who dislikes the film. I just don't care enough to the point that I'm excited for sequels.

They got some better screenwriters this time, like Josh Friedman for Avatar 2, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver for Avatar 3.

These might actually be really good.

I'm siding with Star Wars for sure. Didn't care for Avatar

Depends on the quality of the movies. Releasing Star Wars-movies every year could easily create saturation. The franchise won't have that event feel it once had. Personally my initial reaction is that Disney just can go f**k itself. This is just them trying to milk as much money out of another franchise they bought.

They paid 4 billion dollars, obviously they want to milk this cow. *IF* star wars is as successful as Marvel and Pixar then Disney will be unstoppable aand will be Emperor of Hollywood.

With that said, JJ Abrams is mediocre, and the guy writing the script for the spinoff wrote After Earth and Book of Eli.

I don't see anything wrong with making spin-offs of Star Wars. If they release a new Episode every year, I'd have a problem with that decision, but having solo movies focusing on individual heroes like a young Han Solo can not only flesh out the stories, but it will be able to let the audience see the smaller, most intimate side of the universe. And I think having paid 4 billion for the rights does give Disney the right to do what they think it's right, and they're doing it with the collaboration of the head of Lucasfilm so I doubt they are proceeding without consultation.

I don't think JJ is mediocre at all. While I didn't care for 'Into Darkness' I liked his first Star Trek. Keep in mind, he has only directed 4 movies, and a few episodes of his shows. I do think fanboys tend to go 'Strike one, you're out' with certain directors or actors, which is invalid.

I don't think he's an auteur, but I think he's a fully capable director who is very good with actors; and mixing practical effects with CGI. To me, he's better than Bay, Snyder, and a few of the popular directors out there.

I think he's a good director who could be GREAT. I think he'll hit his full potential with Star Wars 7.

Three strikes:

1) Superman Flyby script
2) STID
3) Fired Michael Arndt

Snyder > Abrams for me.

I love Super 8 for what it is. I think the young actors are very good in that film and just love the 1980's Amblin Entertainment vibe. J.J usually engages me so that's the best compliment I can give. I feel like his characters are usually good and the performances are good from his actors.

Though, this movie is from Gareth Edwards, Jar Jar Abrams is merely the Kevin Feige of this movie.

I don't think Avatar 2 will be a pushover, sas Josh Friedman is a great writer.

This is true. I hope Avatar 2 is great but the first one doesn't keep me coming back.

Citing people like Bay and Snyder is pointless considering that none of them are considered as great directors. Why chose Abrams over others like Cuaron? Nolan? Brad Bird? Abrams is mediocre compared to many of his peers.

Mediocre is an exaggeration from my perspective. He's definitely above average.

By the way, Nolan should never touch Star Wars; he doesn't have the sensibilities for it.

like 90% of modern blockbuster movies in the last 10 years. some movies bombed and are part of the pop culture . :cwink::up:

the SW spinoff movies will be realesed and made after the new SW is realesed. after its realesed they can see what people like and at what time the movie should be realesed.

of course Avatar will not move. the first movie made 2 billion in december. SW7 doesnt even have a trailer out. so Disney doesnt know how popular a spinoff movie can be.

Why? There should be only one way of telling or making a Star Wars movie. Making all Star Wars movies action-adventure would be boring.

making it like a Nolan movie would be boring.they can make an original script with Nolan directing.

A Nolan Star Wars movie? lol GTFO.

It'd be like getting David Lynch to do a glossy action comedy film.

It simply wouldn't work.
