Disney's Tangled

This film was in production for 8 years. There was a lot of research and development on the film, with clothing, hair and creating software that aloud animators to use their 2D techniques in 3D, like squash and stretch. Glen Keane didn't want to work on this film unless that was accomplished. The first version of this film was called Rapunzel Unbraided where she ends up in modern times in Manhattan, like the live action animated hybrid Enchanted.

Here's an interview with Glen Keane.

GK: He’s really John Lasseter. He is not Walt Disney and it’s good that way, because there’s only one Walt Disney and one John Lasseter, but I’ve known John Lasseter since he was eighteen, a long time. John has created a studio that represents his spirit. And Walt Disney has created– There are differences between Pixar and Disney. If you reduced Pixar to a phrase it would be: « Wouldn’t it be cool if? »
Like if a kid was looking at their toy: What if the toy could talk? All their films are like this.
If you reduced the Disney films it would be: « Once upon a time… »
There is big difference. « Once upon a time » it’s make believe. It’s the atmosphere we breathe in the two studios and John is president of both but for the first couple of years it was a constant fight for him to accept that Disney is not Pixar. They’re completely different. Now he’s started to respect the differences between the two. It’s important to realize Disney is Disney, Pixar is Pixar. And John is John and Walt is Walt.

loved it

favourite songs were "mother knows best" and "i have a dream"

I finally saw this movie, and I must say, I DEEPLY regret not having seen this in theaters.

For those of you that have seen this movie [and those of you who haven't], check out this real life floating lantern release:

Finally saw this...and loved it! It was a really pleasant surprise. It also reminded me of my Mandy Moore love...she did such a fantastic job with the vocals :atp:

What ****ing kept you? This should have been priority one back in Nov. :cmad:

I didn't feel like seeing it by myself in theaters and no one wanted to go :csad: And I refuse to erm...illegally obtain Disney movies :o So, I was waiting for DVD release, and my coworker who reviews movies for his website receives all of the releases earlier than the public, and he lent it to me to watch :hrt:

My favorite song of the movie is also the shortest...love, love, love the healing incantation. Will be singing it all night.

Definitely getting this some time this week. The fiance is pumped. We are both Disney freaks. I am, however, confused as to why Rapunzel is not yet officially listed as a "Disney Princess."

Maybe because she's a CG character all the other ones are 2D?

I watched this tonight. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was the best non-Pixar animated Disney film since "Tarzan". The songs weren't as memorable as the ones from the Disney Renaissance, but the heart of the movie was the characters. Rapunzel and Flynn were great, Mother Gothel was a fun villain and Pasqual the chameleon stole the movie. This totally should have been nominated for Best Animated Feature over that hoity-toity French movie.

Bump. This part made me laugh. A lot.

Aw, bought it today! Still love it!

It's in 3d on blu, ain't it?

I'm probably fairly late, but what in the world is up with this film's ridiculous budget? That's easily double of most modern-day blockbusters.

That budget isn't just for Tangled, but for the failed attempts at the film before Tangled itself was made

luckily the film has become a true success. $560+ Million Worldwide gross...

Bought and saw this film tonight. Let me just say, I regret not seeing this in theaters.

Loved it. The style reminded me so much of the 90's animated films. The animation is stunning. About every few seconds I found myself looking at all the intricacies put into every single little thing, like the grass, lighting, trees, etc. And the expressions on all the characters faces were so life-like, I could've swore I was looking at a real human's face, just slightly exaggerated and cartoony.

Of course, I loved all the characters. I liked how they took conventional character tropes that we're so used to seeing in these films like this and put slight twists on all of them:

-Flynn Rider is definitely the handsome "prince", but he's also very goofy and has a very human side to him. He also had me cracking up every time he opened his mouth ("You broke my smoulder." :funny:).

-Rapunzel is the slightly naive "princess", but she more than carries her own weight and can fend for herself.

-Mother Gothel is the conniving "stepmother", but she seems to show some motherly "affection" for Rapunzel.

Loved the music. Not as great as some of the other stuff from films like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, but they still managed to be memorable in their own right. Out of all of them, my favorites were probably "Mother Knows Best", "Healing Incantation", "I Have a Dream" and "I See the Light".

I was really surprised [BLACKOUT]when Flynn "died" at the end. I know that Beauty and the Beast did it first, but because of the relationship between the Flynn and Rapunzel in this, it made it much more emotional for me than it was in that film. I will admit, manly tears were flowing down my face.[/BLACKOUT]

All in all, such a great and entertaining movie. I will probably end up watching it more and more times to come in the future. Highly recommend to those who haven't seen it.

And meanwhile, the urban legend keeps on trucking:
