I've never seen Princess and the Frog, but I've never gotten the impression from either the reviews or the clips I've seen that it was a weak film. I only avoided it because Randy Newman did the music, and I have absolutely zero interesting in hearing a musical from him.

I'm definitely an Alan Menken girl.

Princess and the Frog fan here and I dont think that any "bad" film gets an 84% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is named the best film of 2009 by Time magazine that just doesn't happen, especially with all the good films that came out that year.

At the time that the film came out I worked at a movie theater and can say that just about every family that went in came out satisfied. I dont even recall anyone trying to get money back on the basis of it being "too scary" or dark, as they did with "Where the Wild Things are", as a matter of fact I remeber quite a few families with young children who came back repeatedly to see the movie and I highly doubt they would have come back to see a film that is "sad, unoriginal, and scary".

I agree. Rather, I think the reason the movie didn't do as well as hoped (though, mind you, it still did very well) is because it didn't come across particularly fantasy-esque due to the movie's real world setting and modern, American characters. At least, not from its plot summary and advertising. In other words, it was the movie's deviation from the princess format that was the 'problem'.

As for the original quesetion of whether Disney would end the Princess line, I highly doubt it. It's the company's biggest money-maker; thanks to merchandising. Whatever earnings the movie did, it probably pales in comparison to the 'Disney Princess' line of products, and adding princesses can only drive up sales.

It's the Little Mermaid all over again.

Puh-lease... those Disney ones pale to the Euro.

The music in Princess and the Frog was horrible. The film itself wasn't bad, but the score made it less than memorable, I'm afraid. It wasn't the "total package."

My nephew loves this movie (he's 3), he calls it "Tangles." My sister caught him in the middle of the living room when the movie wasn't on singing "MOTHER KNOWWWWWWS BEST!!!" at top of his lungs in the middle of the living room a few weeks ago.

The downside is that he also tried to whack another kid in the head with a toy frying pan.

He's sort of moved on to watching The Lion King nonstop now, but he was hilarious to watch this movie with.

LOL, you don't have to be.
I'd seen them all before, but I watched all of them back-to-back over the course of a week to coincide with the release of Tangled. Was 7 films a day, maybe more if I had the time lol. Watched Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, and The Princess & The Frog on Monday, followed by Tangled the Monday afternoon.

When I saw it at the cinema, it was my favourite Disney film, but after the back to back viewing, I stand by that statement. Pushes Bolt into 2nd place and Treasure Planet into 3rd. lol

The Black Cauldron is the worst one, I stand by that.

The Rescuers Down Under is probably the most under-rated, that or Hercules. Heck, I'd put Treasure Planet into that mix too - just because it bombed at the Box Office doesn't take away the quality of the film.

And as much as I love Fantasia, I honestly feel that Fantasia 2000 is the better of the 2, just my opinion ofcourse.

As someone who is almost 25 , I highly recommend Tangled. I was very, very hesitant to see it because I'm such a *classic* Disney fan and am rather against the whole "everything is now in 3-D animation" thing, but I loved it.

Santa brought this for my 4 year old. Now she wants to watch "Papunzel" all the time. Luckily, I like the movie as well. Also, just realized that, not only does Zachary Levi do his own singing, but that Jeffery Tambor is in it as well!

I thought this was really cute, I didn't think it would be. my one year old son also loved it, it was way passed his bedtime when we watched it and he struggled to stay awake to watch it to the end. He failed.

Okay, I ended up watching this on Netflix a while back. I gotta say, I was really impressed. The animation, characterization, music, humor…all really well done. They really nailed giving each character a lot of personality to the point where you could turn the sound off, and be totally content. The characters are that fun to watch.

A+ in my book.
