I saw this for the first time a couple weeks ago and to me at least it's one of the best Sci-fi movies of the last 10 years.

^Easily, I watched it for about the 20th time tonight as I am watching Sci-fi movies to get me in the mood for Avatar next week (personally I think D9 is the better movie), and there are just so many layers to the movie and its just presented in a very clever way.

I love how at first we look on the Prawns exactly as the humans do, but slowly, over the movie, as Wikus becomes more sympathetic to them, so do we, to the point were come the ending I am hoping Christopher Johnson comes back and declares war on MNU. Brilliant, brilliant film.

Not to down D9, but in the last decade there have probably been less than a dozen good ones from the genre. :funny:

District 9 Sequel May Be Headed To District 10 This October

There had been some question as to whether director Neill Blomkamp would make a District 9 sequel his next project, unsurprisingly in the wake of the film’s Oscar nomination he has a lot of options. But MS says Neill is back in the director’s chair along with Peter Jackson in a produce role again. It’s all rumor for now though, we’ll let you know when there’s some official confirmation.
:awesome:

IMO a mistake to make your second movie the sequel to your first movie.

Excellent news, can honestly say District 10 is my most anticipated movie in a long time.

I see what you are saying dark b, sometimes its better to go away, do something different and then come back to the franchise, a la Nolan doing The Prestige between BB and TDK.

Blomkampp was meant to be doing another sci-fi movie in the meantime, set on another planet, sounded interesting, wonder whats happening with that?

Yeah, the extent to which I came to love the aliens - even more than Wikus - really surprised me. I spent half the movie terrified that Christopher was going to be killed.

Excellent! I really hope Wikus is changed back in to a human so he can reunite with his wife.

Maybe this District 10 can make it into Best Pic again?

Just watched this again for the first time in years (first time in 4K) and man does this movie still hold up. Not quite sure what happened to Blomkamp after this as Elysium was kinda disappointing and I thought Chappie was awful.

But D9 is a sci fi Classic for me, such a good movie and the last 30 mins are amazing considering the budget they had. There were rumblings Blomkamp was ready to do District 10 before Covid struck, hopefully it can be his comeback movie and he can make it great if so.

Please don't touch it. Blomkamp needs limitations again. Give him 10 mil.

Chappie was so goddamn bad.

I don't know if returning to something necessarily means he'll be better. The only thing I can say comparatively is that Blomkamp made a good movie when he had less money.

Chappie didn’t have a much bigger budget than D9 from what I recall.

Elysium was his biggest budget movie.

I'd still be willing to see what Blomkamp does if he did return to do a sequel to District 9, especially if it means him working with a smaller budget. District 9 is still by far his best film and a modern, science fiction classic IMO and I'd love to return to that world again or atleast exploring it a bit more.

Yeah he needs to find that inspiration again and I think District 10 would do that. Not to mention the movie had sequel bait with Christopher Johnson saying he would come back in 3 years.
