Do animals have emotions?

not your fault, you've only been here a few months

Dolphines are supposed to have emotions. Pandas always seem depressed to me.

I didn't know cats could get Aids till recently. Apparently their is a form of cat aids. Where the hell is their Live Aid dammit!

really, so whales care for their young as its just something to do? Emotions help us make sense of the world, it is therefore the next logical step to assume that animals too have emotions. The only possibly way to reconcile a belief that animals have no emotions with reality is if you were to assume that animals are not conscious of their own existence or their surrondings. Why would animals eat if not to satisfy an emotional stimulant, why would they fornicate if it wasn't fun....?

thats all about survival . they eat because of hunger , dolphins dont go to chili's and get the appetizer sampler.

Right now, there's increasing scientific consensus that some animals do, in fact possess some emotions, if not all. Myself, I've always thought that love made the most evolutionary sense. If a parent loves its offspring, then it is more likely to care for it, help it survive, and not abandon it.

What's your stance?

Why don't you ask my poor cat who was outdoors for almost 4 months straight? He was so happy to be back inside a warm environment where he has plenty of food that he hasn't stopped purring yet. It's all he can do since he lost his voice. I fear he's irreversibly damaged his vocal chords.

Animals have two emotions...hunger and anger. When you feed them they're no longer hungry, just neutral. You piss them off, they're angry.

So your extensive scientific reasearch has led you to postulate that ridiculous theory? You obviously don't know what you are talking about... the rescue dog experiment is one of many examples... when the dogs were so depressed that they couldn't find any survivors they refused to work... the grounds people had to deliberately hide their own people in debris to motivate the dogs to work again... just one of many examples.

if humans have emotions than so do animals, we derived from animals so we have to have gotten the emotion traits from our ancestors.

also looking at common domestic animals such as dogs or cats, they show affection often which is an emotion.

they cry, they get happy, they love.

Well, that could just be how I grew up, as we didn't view animals or pets as being happy or sad. They were just pets or wild animals running around the neighborhood. We didn't see our friend's dog and go, "dude, he looks happy, or he looks depressed." It would have come off extremely weird if anybody even said anything like that.

Yes. I can tell when my dogs are happy, sad, sick, angry.

It's obvious animals have emotions.

BtW, I don't want anyone to get the idea that I started this thread with the idea that animals didn't have emotions, and Kritish'll vouch for me on that. I simply wanted to get everyone's ideas and thoughts on the matter.

I definitely think animal have emotions... sometimes get upset when you yell at them...

Another pointless thread that only requires one to apply common sense.
