I brought the NYKO PS3 intercooler last night while I don't complained about the noise the sucker makes, I wonder did I waste my money because before I got it my PS3 after a few hours of playing it doesn't really get hot I mean it does get rather warm but compare to the last one I had before exchanging it when the Blu-Ray drive failed that one felt like a oven. And when I do turned it off(putting it in sleep mode it cools down rather fast), back to the intercooler it doesn't too well fit on a 40GB PS3 the back pieces do fit the fan that go on the side have to be align with the side vent but it still feels cooled now should i just keep the thing or get my money back and just let a small fan blow on it if I know I'm going to be on longer than a hour?

No you dont. You just wasted your money

I would say take it back. The small fan sounds like a better (and cheaper) idea to me.

I've read that the intercoolers do more harm than good because they push the fans inside the console faster than they should be going

and it voids the warranty.

Really, you don't need an intercooler. Extra cooling fans for a PC...sure, but not a PS3. I gave my brother my old 60GB, and both it and the 80GB I bought a year or so ago both run perfectly. It occasionally gets a little hot, but never anything that would make me think it was even close to overheating. Also the PS3 cooling fan is very quiet, I've noticed additional fans can be a bit noisy. So you're just tacking on something that's not needed, and will make it even noisier.

I've also heard like the above that some of the intercoolers can cause more problems than they solve. I'd just take it back, and keep your PS3 in a ventilated, non carpeted area. Mines setting on a desk and has never given me trouble.

The intercooler is a POS. The only reason they sell them is because people are scared of the RROD, and the peripheral makers knew that there was a big market of scared people who don't do their research. I applaud you for asking for advice before buying it instead of being suckered in by jargon on the box, because it's nothing but a giant scam. The PS3's internal fans work just fine, and even if they didn't the intercooler would not be physically capable of making the system cool more efficiently.

Even if you did own an Xbox 360, the intercooler is still a waste of money because it does not work well. These things are big, noisy, and do not actually make your system run cooler. The only system that has a cooling problem is Xbox 360, and the intercooler is not the solution to it (if you want a truly RROD proof Xbox 360, your best option will always be a case mod).
