Do you accept the theory of evolution? - Part 1

I'm curious. How do creationists explain away the Chicxulub impact? For those that don't know, that is the asteroid that impacted the earth 65 million years ago. The asteroid was 6-9 miles wide, and had the energy of 100 teratonnes of TNT which is over 1 billion times the energy released from the atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Ther impact crator is still there. The effects of this impact were astronomical. Mass extinctions of plants and animals all over the planet.

Evidence shows that angiospore pollen is prevelant below the K-Pg boundary. The boundary itself contains little pollen and is dominated by fern spores. Normal pollen levels gradually resume above the boundary layer. You see this same thing in areas that have been effected by volcanic eruptions. Ferns lead recovery and are replaced by angiospore plants. The impact at the K-Pg boundary would have left tsunami deposits and sediments around the area of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and these have been identified. Also, numerous groups of organisms do not show uo after the K-Pg boundary pointing to a mass extinction event. Non-avian dinosaur fossils are found only below the K-Pg boundary indicating they became extinct during the boundary event.

Most creationists are Americans, so that is probably true:cwink:

That's actually not true by a longshot. But they are the most outspoken because, well, they're Americans. The most outspoken atheists are also American.

The response to what I am about to say should be interesting.

No, because I choose to believe that God created us and everything on this planet and the planet itself. Plus everything else in existance in the universe.

Also, I said "monkeys" as a general term. I guess I should have said primate. Sorry I just haven't studied all the different species of monkeys, apes, chimps, etc.

Why do you choose to believe that?

We actually know how the planet formed. We also know how we came to be.

I'll never understand the creationist mindset. Look around you. Does this universe look like it was designed for us? We can only inhabit one known planet (though there may be others). And even that one planet is hardly ideal for us.

The human body has all the indications of something that came about through trial and error. And that's without even getting into genetics.

97% , probably more, of the universe is uninhabitable for humans. 2/3 of our own planet is uninhabitable for humans. That isn't intelligent design. That is stupid design. If you would like to learn about many other ways this universe was not intelligently designed watch this video.

I think giving us 3% of the universe as inhabitable is being extraordinarily generous.

We arent discussing generosity. We are discussing intelligence.

Giving us only 3% we who are supossed to be god's greatest and most cherished creation doesnt point to generosity. At most it points to a god taking the piss. If you hired an architect to build you a house and then upon completion he says you can only live in 3% of it would you be ok with it? Nope. You'd fire his ass and probably sue him.

Also keep in mind that the 3% can kill us in particularly violent ways. We have just managed to tame it enough to squeeze out some civilized existence. It is inefficient. And our bodies are even more ineffecient.

I am well aware that my opinion isn't the popular one, but it's what I believe and I have the faith God created everything. I don't pretend to know why He created everything the way He did, but it's not for me to question. I'm sure that some people will attack my intelligence level, but that's OK. I don't have anything to prove to anyone.

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying god was being generous, I was saying you were being generous.

I think it's more like .000000000000000000000000000000003% of the universe is inhabitable to humans.

Im not going to question your intelligence, but i will ask why you think its not your place to question why things are the way they are? We have seen where that line of thought leads. The Dark Ages.

Oh lol yeah youre most likely right about that.

Actually it's what most of the world believes (well, with the world being created by their specific deity).

If you wish to remain uneducated, that's your right.

LOL, have a good night. I'm taking my "uneducated" self to bed before I go into work tonight.

There are a couple of different ways that the ancients thought the stars and night sky were. Some ancient Israelites believed that the stars were points of like poked into a giant black surface that showed the light from the Heavens coming through. The ancient Greeks thought that the stars were made from the stuff found in the private parts of Zeus' father when he took over Mount Olympus.

I think the Romans also thought that the stars were light from the realm of the gods coming through holes in the celestial sphere.

You say you believe God created everything. Why couldn't your God have created evolution? I only ask because I'm genuinely curious as to why so many people reject evolution. Do you find it offensive that we emerged from microbes and muck. And that apes are our cousins?

I'm not offended by it at all, it's just not what I believe. It's quite simple, God created man and woman because He spoke it, and it happened. Nothing complex about it.

Now granted, I doubt there's anything I can say to change your mind.

But you don't find anything suspect about all those ancient dead animals, many of which bear a close resemblance to us?

You don't find it odd that the universe is so poorly designed?

You never wondered why lifeless planets like Venus and Mars exist?

Nah, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. Like I said, it's not for me to question why God did things the way He did.

Sometimes I wish I could be this willfully naive. I mean that with no disrespect. Between my ridiculous OCD, and my need to understand how everything works I've never been able to just say "oh, well it is the way it is because it is." It is an ability I never aquired. Google has been one of the greatest blessings, and one of my greatest curses. I google every thing to see why something is the way it is and what the latest thought on something is. Back when I just had books I had far less random useless facts in my head.

That would be my worst nightmare.

We are apes, not ostriches.
