Anyone whos a real batman fan must atleast admire MOTP, its one of the best on screen stories for Batman of all time.

MOTP is just a great Batman movie and I wish WB would release SE DVD.

Got it for $10 at Smiths :woot:. MotP was great, but just didn't live up to the story, acting, and character depth of TDK. Tied in second place for me with BB.
Valid points, but atleast MOTP Batman didn't spend half the movie telling everyone he doesn't kill people only to do exactly that to a major villain and former friend at the end. And don't give me "collateral damage" excuses. Batman pushed him off edge to death = killed him. That's my biggest gripe about TDK and what knocked it out of the lead for best Batman movie for me. Of course, that and Rachel Dawes (who could've been replaced with Law student Julie Madison who would've been a better character anyway).

No disrespect to you, glad you really enjoyed TDK, I did as well. But it still suffers from third act issues and standard blockbuster syndrome that wore it down a little bit for me.

I think the reason why people love The Dark Knight so much is because the Joker was in it...That's the only way a Batman film can be a critical and commercial success. Nobody likes Batman but everybody loves the Joker.

Well, that's kind of backwards logic, considering MOTP came out first. In any case, TDK would have to live up to MOTP, not the other way around :oldrazz:

Also, consider the fact that MOTP's main demographic was supposed to be little brats infatuated with Batman.

I like Mask of the Phantasm - though there's something a bit jarring about hearing Lois Lane's (Dana Delany) voice coming out of Andrea's mouth. I remember seeing it in theaters for my birthday.

In a word... yes. In two... HELL YES!

That´s weird, since she voiced Andrea first, sometime later Lois.

Really the better question is “Who doesn’t like Mask of the Phantasm?” It’s bloody brilliant. In many ways it’s the best Batman film ever made, including the live action interpretations. It’s definitely the most accurate.

There's a minority of people who dislike bad animation and they think Mask of the Phantasm has bad animation.

Of course! I think of this movie the same way most people think of The Dark Knight! The greatest Batman movie ever! Including TDK! Timm has always had the best grasp of what makes Batman work and this movie is the best example of that! The scene where he becomes Batman for the first time is better than anything Nolan did in BB...

That´s what made the atmosphere of the series so amazing.

Well, a couple years passed where I didn't have PHANTASM in my possession, and I got used to hearing Dana Delany as Lois Lane on SUPERMAN TAS. Then I was in Blockbuster one day, saw MOTP on the shelf and, having not seen it for a few years, rented it for fun, and after I put it in I realized "Holy cow, that's Lois Lane doing Andrea's voice!" I was 9 going on 10 when MOTP came out and didn't know who Dana Delany was. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Well they don't like Batman: Mask of the Phantasm or Batman: The Animated Series because Bruce Timm drew the backround on black paper.

Bruce Timm didn't draw the backgrounds. Eric Randomski did. :whatever:

Mask of the phantasm shows how bruce lost his ability to keep in touch with others but how he still had his humanity.

the film showed he had two chances for redemption and was willing to give it up for andrea in the past and again in the present but how she denied him twice.

it shows why the character became dark and alone.

the pause he gives before he puts on his mask is the single greatest moment in any animation.

i can't stress enough how hard it must be for bruce to lose his parents but to lose his himself twice.

from going to not talking at a gravestone to begging his parents to not become batman.

I could honestly spend the rest of my days defending that piece of work.

The only thing it lacked was a proper fight between bats and the phantasm.

oh and shirley walker's music is the definitive batman soundtrack, she nailed the whole feeling of the movie. No batman film can come close, and neither can no batman onscreen relationship.

she was his soulmate, his complete opposite and equal, his road to both happiness and complete dispair.

While I really like MOTP, one thing that always bugged me was the animation.

I expected it to look a little nicer then one of the normal TAS episodes, I would have liked them to do a bit more with the animation. Bit more detail, more polished look.

What do you mean? You want it to look like X-Men TAS with clunky anatomy? That's detailed to you right?

And I don't see why everyone is saying the animation wasn't better than an ordinary episode. Hello? Cat Scratch Fever? Tyger, Tyger? Eternal Youth? There were so many terribly animated TAS episodes (at least a good 1/2 of the original batch--not TNBA). The animation in MOTP was stellar. It was done by Dong Yang and Spectrum (the two best overseas animation houses) and was even nominated for an Annie.

MOTP's animation cannot be justified as bad.

I do. I held out on buying MOTP for a long time, hoping that they'd release a special edition. Earlier this year I gave up that hope and bought the Double Feature, since I didn' have SubZero either.

SubZero is alright. MOTP is legendary.
