If I ever had two quarters and a penny, I'd trust Raimi. And it just so happens that I have two quarters and a penny.

I defenitely trust Raimi! He's a god in my eyes and has done an amazing job with all 3 Spidey films.

Oh... I think he's dead serious, man.

And also it's true, that hack Ari Arad made 'Spider-Man 3' what it was, disappointing. However, some complaints COULD be thrown at Sam Raimi also for writting the script, but he edmited that the whole screenwriting process was a collaberation.

Absolutely.

He did everything with SM1 and 2 that should be done with Spider-Man. He got the scope and scale right with SM3, but they messed up the details.

As long as he gets to do it his way, all the way, he should deliver another TRUE sequel to SM2. (Yes, you read that correctly, SM2, his movie, SM3 was Sony's).

Why are fanboys so full of themselves? Sam Raimi doesn't need your trust, because he only needs the trust of Marvel and Sony, that's where it begins and ends. Thus far, that trust they have in him have grossed three films over the 2.5 Billion mark. And when SM4 hits, no matter what your beef is with any of the films, it's gonna bring the four movies over the 3 Billion mark worldwide. So, let's stop trying to seem important with our trust that don't mean sh:t. It's obvious that Sony/Marvel want to begin and end this franchise with Raimi, because they trust him, and if the tidbits of new news are true, they're going to do it with or without you.

Well aww shoot. We may as well just shut the boards down then and wait for number 4 in silence.

Wait. In silence.

Spider-man 3 could have been a great film, even with the characters "mandated" by the studio.

- They should have made the black suit more menacing.

- Had Marko plead for his life when they were fighting in the subway saying things like "I thought you were the hero?!" etc, showing how much the suit had changed Peter and how violent he had become

- They should have had him get in that fight at the Jazz Club, but without the dancing scene in front of it.

- They should have had him humiliate Brock at the Bugle like he did, but not dance to James Brown before hand.

- The dark scenes with Peter were played great- they just lost them in the mess of "comedic" scenes that they used the suit for.

- Venom was great- they should have had him explain himself a little more...like in the novelized version. "You told me to find religion, and I did. I asked for an answer to my problems and as if from heaven it was delivered to me. The power you wasted- WE have embraced. We are poison to both Peter Parker and Spider-man...We are Venom!" (it was along these lines and would have actually appeased a lot of fans had he just said THIS much and if they made his death ambiguous).

There were SO many things that could have been EASILY improved upon. They could have used the ending where the Marko family stops Flint from killing Peter and he turns himself in. That'd be better than Peter deciding what's best for the law and allowing him to run free.....

Yet- it was a good film. Not as good as Spider-man or Spider-man 2, but a good film.

My point is- that the bad parts of the film could have been AVOIDED by Rami. It was his sensibilities and what he felt was "funny" or "good for the story" that hurt the film. I'm trusting him- but with a bit of skepticism. I hope he can do a better job of nailing down a solid tone with this film. The last was to be dark. It was to show the danger of power and vengeance and came across comedic.

I'm giving him a shot with an open mind on Spider-man 4 and possibly the part two Spider-man 5, because I feel he earned it with Spider-man and Spider-man 2.

What happens if Spider-man 4 is a wash and the fanboys hate it?

I know a lot of people that were very disappointed in Spider-man 3 to the point that some may not be interested in a fourth go. The fans trust, when it comes down to it, is everything. Yeah, Sony and Marvel need to trust him to allow him to make it...but we have to trust him and accept it to make it a success. It's our money that has made the $2.5 billion. I realize not every penny, but it is the fans that keep these machines going.

If Spider-man 4 comes out it will have a HUGE first weekend at the box office, but if it is not better than Spider-man 3 the drop off will be huge from week to week. I'm not saying this as a "Batman fanboy". I love the Spider-man franchise and the character all together- it's just that the last outing, while good, left a lot of people with a stale taste in their mouths. A fourth effort that is not comparable to the first or second film will put the franchise in danger.

Fanboys hated SM3 and it made 890M worldwide. And you are a freakin' Batman fanboy, be proud of it, but watch yourself, I know your kind.

I'm proud of it lol...but I'm also a Spider-man fanboy.

And I realize it made a lot of money, Spider-man 3.

But a LOT of films that aren't love by critics or fanboys can do well, Superman Returns made close to 400 million world wide, X3: The Last Stand made about $240 million domestic..but there's very little interest for a Ratner helmed X4 or a Singer helmed Superman: Man of Steel.

Basically, if they continue to be complacent and not raise the bar each time, the money isn't going to keep coming.

They need to outdo themselves and do keep what worked in the first three films and improve on what didn't in the last three films, mostly the third.

Well, not every one of us Spidey fans disliked S-M3.
Uh, do me a favor and edit out my post you quoted, Mods have been on my back about cursing, and I do it so well.

But yeah, I know not all Spidey fans hate SM3, but I guess the majority perhaps, eh?

Yeah, but screw the critics and fanboys, with these kinds of numbers, Sony and Marvel want Sam Raimi back. Hey, I was all for a new director too, and let's face it, the bar isn't going to be raised every single time. SM2 was said to be better than SM1 by fans and critics, and yet it made less domestically, overseas and worldwide than SM1.

I have trust in James Vanderbilt...
thus not so sure about Raimi
