Doc Savage in the DCU!

I love the character designs for Doc Savage, The Fabulous Five, The Batman, The Avenger, The Spirit, Black Canary, and Rima The Jungle Girl that they are showing at the DC Blog. This Friday is suppossed to be more. I hope to see the First Wave version of Wildcat and The Blackhawks.

So did I. I considered posting in there, to let them know that they are idiots, but, I think it would be a waste of time.

Batman subforum does have alot of nice people but its kinda inactive. Luckily i found these comic sections. <3

character specific sub forums always suck. Check out the Spider-Man forum sometime. Circle of Hell my friend.

I feel ashamed of checking out Batman: Comics subforum. =P

Yeah, it's pretty rough. A lot people over there seem to like their Batman only in the mold of The Long Halloween or the animated series and aren't really open to much else. Like this Doc Savage thing, or Batwoman in Detective, for example.

Seriously how come i've never seen those losers there before? All the sudden these 3-4 people come and ***** and moan about something that doesn't even effect the mainstream Batman comics whatsoever.

Worst part is that I'm not even that heavy of a Doc Savage fan. I'm in this for The Spirit. But, I'm hoping I can distract them with conversations about the Doc so they don't have time to mock my favorite character's movie. :whatever:

Yeah, as soon as clicked on that link and saw it was the Batman subforum, I clicked back

I always think that.

Who were those dudes? This place it too big sometimes.

Yeah..you had some decent "get the big picture folks" posts in there..but it may be for a lost cause..ah well..A for effort..or Aquaman! :cwink:

It's been cleaned up...and will be kept clean.

I picked up the Batman/Doc Savage book today. It's pretty good. I always have to get a little used to ELSEWORLD type stories. It's set in an amalgam of the '30 and today. Doc operates out of New York City and Batman is in a Gotham that is located where Los Angelos is for us. Bats uses guns...but apparently non leathally. Doc is the well known and respected guy we know (so far).

The book is billed as a one shot...but it sets up a theme to be used in the FIRST WAVE world.

are people really hating on Batwoman in Detective?! Personally, that's my favorite of the titles being published, and in fact, the only title i bothered to keep up with. I love the hell out of that.

There was some talk questioning why Batwoman was being featured, which was reasonable. But things are worse now because there's no discussion about Detective at all. It's pretty clear that nobody in those forums is reading it, which is a shame because Batwoman's run has been amazing so far.

I liked the Doc Savage special. I don't know much about the good Doctor but I like how he's such a public figure and celebrity. I also liked how Bruce was depicted as learning on the job. And I loved the world they've created: a West Coast Gotham could be interesting (I liked the Spanish style Wayne Manor), and I liked the fact that it can't really be placed in time--there were cell phones and TV news networks along with art deco buildings, weird airships and 30's-style cars. I'm definitely looking forward to reading The First Wave in March. It could be great.

I liked it. I think it was a good way to ease into the First Wave stuff that will follow. While I completely understand how they are setting up the new geography, it's the one area I'm not fully sure how I feel about. Obviously, we're not moving the Empire State Building, so Gotham being elsewhere is a smart move. Just not sure they needed to make Batman live quite THAT far removed from Doc Savage. Central City being in the midwest could go either way. I'll wait to see the portrayal before passing judgment on that.

I love Detective Comics. It was great to introduce a new character (for me) and stuff. Loved the action and the supporting cast. :)

Anyhow yeah i read Batman|Doc Savage special. It was really good! I liked how Bruce acted drunk just to see what hand Doc uses for defensive hits. :) I kinda like the idea of Batman using guns and yeah hes giving the people the wrong view of him. I guess he will change to batarangs later on this story.

Word Balloon: Azzarello and DC's First Wave Podcast Interview

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/091113-Word-Balloon-Podcast-Azzarello.html

On this edition of the Word Balloon Podcast, writer Brian Azzarello stops by to explain the DC heroes/Pulp Heroes world he's created in the First Wave Project. As Azzarello says, "It's a world without superpowers or magic, and I'm playing god with it. I've been involved with this pulp thing for 5 years now. It took that long to get the rights squared away."

The series began this week, with the release of the Batman/Doc Savage One Shot, with art by Phil Noto, and continues in early 2010, with the 6 part limited series drawn by Rags Morales. After that series gets under way, Azzarello says, "There's going to be many other writers and artists working on stories that spring from the bible of the mini series. There will probably be some overlap in their release."

As for more hints about some of the characters in the upcoming mini series, Azzarello gave these comments.

"I think the pulp heroes reasons to fight crime are much darker than the superheroes were, with the exception of Doc Savage. Like The Avenger. He's a really dark character, and we're actually making him even darker...his power is disguise; his face has a lot of muscle control, he could mold his face to look like someone else."

I'm all in favour of a "pulp" version of the DCU featuring" Doc Savage," "The Shadow", "The Spirit" and any other appropriate characters. I hope that Doc's cousin Pat will be puting in an appearence as well !:yay:

I'm loking forward to Justice Inc in First Wave.

Was surprised I liked the Batman/Doc Savage book as much as I did. It's nice to be able to use Bruce in a way you can't in the DCU.
