does any one else think that nightwing needs a side kick?

It just dosn't sound that imposing is all. Sounds like a Transformers name. A little cheesy imo, mostly the 'wing' part.

What about Raven? Sounds meaner, ties into Robin...

No?

*ducking stones, runs away*

How about this, Nightwing is a veteran Superhero now.
Batman is dead (never passing over the title to Dick or Tim)
Robin has retired and Barbare has died of natural causes.

So basically Nightwing is getting too old and he's alone (except for ole supes and WW) and he's just as grimm as Batman from the Dark Knight Returns.
He adops a sidekick, someone he can teach and mentor to become his sucsesor (sp?). While training him he soon realises that Gotham doens't need a new superhero but a new Legend. Gotham needs a Batman. He pushes the boy even harder (sometimes too hard) and eventually the boy becomes a man and the man becomes the next Batman!

Dick would NEVER be that grim. That would be more out of character than the crap that Bruce Jones wrote.

you've been watching too much batman beyond.

swap nightwing for bruce and you pretty much have the premise for it.

Holy crap, your right. But I was thinking about DKR when I wrote it.
Only diverence is that this sidekick isn't Batman but becomes Batman at a later stage.
As for Nightwing out of character, I don't think so. The years can be hard on a man even on Dick.

I think it would be nice to see nightwing taking in an apprentice.

I made a thread once about batman having a superhuman apprentice instead of a human one for a change to see how he deals with this.

Imagine that batman wasn't really able to help this new robin in the way he's helped the others and Dick realises that it comes down to his approach not being suitable for everyone to progress. Since dick has a history of working with youth superheroes with powers, He decides to take this new robin under his wing and mentor him in a more positive way to make the best of his abilities. Hence giving bruce the royal FINGER.

:o

this is simply one possibility. I say for right now, Nightwing should fail an attempt to save a child's family (or something like twin sibling) and the child watches him fail right before his eyes. Robin can see the vengeance he once had and decides before this is brought up as revenge to take the youngling in and harness the rage positively before it eats the child up. Of course this would be a different dynamic as Nightwing and the child's relationship would be a costume based one only without the child realising that he is infact dick.

nightwing has one of the best superhero names ever

especially one that doesn't include a gender within it

Nightwing needs to be around a little more and get a really cool take on him before he gets a side kick. He's pretty cool, but he needs get a little more popular. He has to establish a more batman feel to him; not as a sidekick.

I don't know whether it's now due to character association but the raven is quite a female name and wouldn't suit dick.

clayface and two-face are other great character names.

there aren't really any female dc superhero names that stand out of the crowd, marvel does a better job with naming its female cast, a lot less 'woman' emphasis on their names, the only ones i can think on are the ones based off spider-man (spider-girl and all the spider-women).

well you would have to think about the distance between mahnhatten and gothem it shoeld be pretty far i mean what if he is in a life or death situation and he needs back up emidetly or he will die who will he count on the old partners that are what 10, 15maybe 20 minutes away you guys this is what i mean say bane comes into town and so does block, buster if he wastn dead and theyt became an aliiance then what
Well, Nightwing doesn't engage them, preferring to call in backup from Gotham, that's what.

You know what? I'm seeing the coolness inherent in giving him a sidekick.

If done correctly, and with some wry humour, you could really play up the angle of "look how far Dick has gone" and get into the "son becomes the father" dynamic.

If done right, I'd enjoy it.
I tend to just not like the idea of sidekicks. I respect the ones that already exist, or the ones who fill an existing sidekick role that is vacated. But I don't like the creation of new ones. Maybe it's that getting kids involved is kind of wrong, but I don't think that's it. I guess I just don't think most heroes would be out looking for preteens to help them fight crime.

If Dick got a sidekick, I'd want it to be Nite-Wing. Obviously, dude would need a name change.

Or hey, he could get the kid from that super-family in the Pain of the Gods JLA arc! That could be interesting. No, wait, Nightwing shouldn't have a superpowered sidekick. Forget that idea.

But that super-family should come back.

What Nightwing needs is a new name.
For a brief time, when Robin's new costume was first unveiled, I hoped he'd change his name to Flamebird. One of my non-comic-geek buddies, who happens to be a Star Wars geek and an occasional reader of Alan Moore and Batman, pointed out how ****ing ******ed that would have been.

So I guess compared to Flamebird, no name seems real dumb to me anymore. Unless it was like Dog****er or something.

"Out of the shadows of the night, descending upon the criminal scum of Science City* comes the avenging angel known to mortal men simply as...Dog****er!"

*2 bonus points if you get the reference.

He wouldn't. He's said on several occasions that he isn't particularly fond of flashy heroes who rely on powers to achieve success.

The trendy fashion among internet third-string-hero fanboys of inexplicably hating Batman hasn't spread to the DCU hero community yet*, and certainly not to Nightwing.

*If they hate him, they have better reasoning than most of you people.

96? I think it's been a little longer than that, son...

Or Scarlet Witch. That sort of has a female connotation. Or Kitty Pryde. Or Foxx (I know it was just a front, but it was there.) I'm sure there's more but I'm tired.

Scarlet witch i'll give you but Kitty Pryde is a real name for the alias of Shadowcat which is a neutral name (if you consider black panther to be male and THE CAT to also be male).

Cat does have a female connotation to me, although Panther doesn't. If there's a Marvel character named The Cat, I feel sorry for the bastard. DC's The Cat was a female, and generally believed to be the precursor to Catwoman.

Oh! Another one! Don't y'all have a Miss Marvel, or Captainette Marvel or something, some Marvel chick with a female name? I know we do, but don't you guys have one too?

ok how about this lets get back to the subject the thread is about
