Once again, this just sounds stupid LOL! Cool maybe for a fan theory post, but as a cinematic concept....trash. Sorry but the concept that Doom has to impersonate Tont Stark is to me the dumbest basis for a Doctor Doom movie plot I could have imagined.

In all fairness, the MCU already did that with Nick Fury or Rhodey (I can’t remember) being impersonated by a Skrull as well as many others in the MCU replaced by Skrulls so it isn’t completely far fetched as it seems

But that isn't a DOCTOR DOOM story. Doctor Doom's entire character is built around his ego. His vanity. His arrogance. The scars are a manifestation of this, a physical reminder of his own imperfection he hides behind a mask because he doesn't want others or himself to see it. Doom wants people to worship DOOM. NOT TONY FRIGGIN STARK!!! Doom wants to fix the world, and have you build statues of him for it. Not leech of someone's likeness so he can try and steal his good will. Thats not fueling Doom's ego!

It's also a bit of an eye roller to me to build an entire plot line around your actor's face just so you can be like "Hey guys, wasn't Iron Man amazing?" Yes, I get it, everyone loves Iron Man. Why must we make Doctor Doom suck and do non-Doctor Doom things in order to remind us of something we already know? Answer: them BO dollars. Desperation. You're trying to craft a good story around Doom's face, not crafting a good Doctor Doom story! It's a backwards approach and makes for a bad story.

From Reddit a fan theory

MCU Theory: Robert Downey Jr. and Mads Mikkelsen Are Both Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday

In *Avengers: Doomsday*, Doctor Doom (played by Mads Mikkelsen) devises a plan to infiltrate Earth-199999 (the MCU’s main universe) by posing as Tony Stark, leveraging his advanced sorcery to perfectly mimic Stark’s appearance and mannerisms. This would explain Robert Downey Jr.’s return, not as the original Tony Stark, but as Doom in disguise.

# Doom’s Plan:

Doom's strategy revolves around exploiting Earth-199999's reliance on Tony Stark, knowing that Stark is a beloved figure and a key to Earth's defenses. By impersonating Stark, Doom weakens the Avengers from within, sowing distrust, altering technology, and leading Earth's heroes into traps designed to make them vulnerable for his greater conquest. Stark’s charisma, intellect, and leadership style are essential to make this deception believable, making Downey Jr.’s return feel natural—yet suspicious enough to fuel tension throughout the film.

As Doom poses as Stark, he begins dismantling the Avengers’ alliances, gaining access to key pieces of technology. He also manipulates global governments into false security, causing fractures in their defense coordination. However, certain heroes, particularly those close to Stark (e.g., Spider-Man, Rhodey, and Pepper Potts), begin to suspect that something is amiss.

# The Big Reveal:

In the climactic moments of *Avengers: Doomsday*, after a series of near-victories for Doom, the true nature of the threat is unveiled. Doom sheds his Tony Stark disguise (Robert Downey Jr.) to reveal his real form—Mads Mikkelsen, fully suited as Doctor Doom. This moment would be a dramatic reveal, not only shocking Earth’s heroes but also bringing about a shift in the balance of power, as the Avengers realize they’ve been fighting the wrong battle.

# The Door to Secret Wars:

The reveal not only sets up Doctor Doom as the MCU’s next overarching villain but also opens the door for Robert Downey Jr.’s true Tony Stark to return during *Avengers: Secret Wars*. In the multiversal chaos of Secret Wars, the original Tony Stark from a different timeline or universe may return, either to battle Doom or to assist the Avengers in reclaiming reality. This would allow RDJ to reprise his role, perhaps as a battle-worn or alternate-universe version of Stark, while Mikkelsen continues his reign as the MCU’s primary Doom.

This theory cleverly allows Robert Downey Jr. to make a comeback without undoing the meaningful sacrifice of Tony Stark in *Endgame*. It also ties into the larger multiverse saga by using magic as the vehicle for Doom's deception, bringing a psychological edge to the Avengers’ fight against him.

No to all of this.

I dunno about how the majority feels but I hated the Nick Fury twist at the end of FFH. I hated it even more when it was half-addressed in NwH and never resolved. I didn't watch Secret Invasion so can't comment on that.

I don't like it and I don't really understand how it's gonna play out wholly.

I get the film and their origin is going to be set in a 'separate' universe and given we are embraced within the multi-verse now (thanks to Kang etc.) the integration shall come later, but for me, it's the 'what comes later' bit, which will 'spoil' the casting as such.

Will Doom exist, in other universes as well, so we have a separate casting for 'another' Doom elsewhere or is RDJ going to be the definitive one, with all the history tied to Reed etc.

It also, for me, rides all over the entire previous phase dynamic with Tony and all his sacrifice meant at the end of Endgame, equally rumours of Steve Rogers' return will do the same if he plays the character, it's been suggested he will.

Was it actually confirmed that RDJ is THIS Earths DOom? And simply not A DOOM

I think if the Earth of this movie is destroyed by Galactus. The Fantastic 4 would be transported to Robert Doom Jr's reality by the end of the film.

Yeahhhhh, that's what I thought. Glad to see the poll is unanimously no so far.

Not anymore...

I lamented for a while about this, but what I fear the most is that we will probably not see the actualy rivalry between Reed and Doom in the MCU. If anything it will be more like "Tell than Show" because of time constraints. All for some dumb shock moment for the GA. Bothers the heck outta me. They should have set Doom up much earlier to make any type of retroactive continuity. Doom's entire heritage might even be forgone for the RDJ shock element. Sloppy play out of pure desperation. Can RDJ pull it off? yes, willl it be true to the source? I doubt it, could another actor have worked? 100%

It's a gimmick imo , but gimmicks can be done well, so I've been open minded to it. if they pull it off it could be something special.

still sad about how Kang storyline turned out after all the majors stuff since I had been excited for Kang the Conqueror since I thought the chitauri vehicles were his scarab ships in avengers 1 before we knew loki was the villain throughout lol

So are we thinking that was actually RDJ on set for that midcredits scene or no?

It's possible. They are filming right now and the Russos were the ones directing that scene. I feel like that's probably going to be a scene taken directly from Doomsday, so it might be a small snipit of a larger scene. If so, it would be weird if they couldn't get RDJ to do that lol.

That's true. I've been kind of used to credit scenes not showing up in the next movie (like Captain Marvel's not being part of Endgame) but this and the Thunderbolts post-credits scene are most likely going to be incorporated into the movie.

Heck no, that was a body double. There was nothing to that scene and anyone can slouch and hold a mask
