Are better than public schools? I went to a private/Catholic school for elementary and middle school, and have spent the last four years at a public high school. Over the course of last year, and now this year, I have come to the conclusion that the former is true. Does anyone else agree? Disagree?

Depends on the school. I went to a private school that was worse, was taken out and went to a private school that was much better for the remainder of my school-school time.

I've had public schooling all my life. I've been okay.

If they have boobs, then of course.

Ummm... what?

I agree with the 'depends on the school' part.

I went to public school and in college generally found that I had a better education than most of my peers who had gone to private schools.

You can get a school with small classes, super passionate teachers (there despite the fact they don't make enough money, and please, Silence, Blind_Fury.), that's large enough to properly socialize and yet is safer and offers more opportunities for one-on-one help and crap.

In junior high/high school, I had public school friends who'd ask me for help and when I compared their homework to mine I was horrified...offensively easy, like a slap in the face to your intelligence.

But the first private school I attended was a joke. They pretty much didn't teach anything unless it directly glorified God. And the principal was a sexual sadist who became visibly arroused as he savagely spanked kids...for "corrections" sake.

so, depends.

It really depends on the area. My brothers went through public school (California), then when I came along (ten years later), my parents refused to let me go to the local schools. I went to private school my whole life. Big thumbs up on the book learning, big thumbs down on the social learning.

I went to a private school for 7th and 8th grade. It was good for me because the curriculum was basically a grade ahead so I went into high school with more knowledge than some of my friends who had gone to a public middle school. However, the school I went to was K-12 and as I observed it, the high school portion was pretty dismal. Not many students either. There was definitely more options and opportunities in my public high school than in the private school.

Where I grew up there was a wide range of private school options, from the elite to the poor. The public schools had a gifted program for middle schoolers that seemed to do alright by people, but it didn't extend into high school. The public high schools were pretty sad.

So in Providence, RI, you're better off in private schools. I don't know how I'd feel if I lived in Rye, NY.

I attend private school, and have since kindergarden and I'm in high school now. I can honestly that it has impacted my life in a majorly good way. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. But I have nothing against people who go to public schools.

I think most people who attend private schools seems to be snooty thinking there better than others. But thats just my encounters.

I went to private school from kindergarten to 7th grade. I have to admit, it made me a better person who wasn't a bad kid or anything, but that was just me.

To me, Private schools are worse, especially if they are Christian private schools. Most parents send their bad kids to private school so they can get their act together.

In general, I think private schools are worse. They also suck because you gotta pay all that damn money for less oppurtunities. Damn acting good, Public schools have ALOT more classes and alot more doors and oppurtunities. Private schools actually cripple the potential that public schools can give, if you seek them out.

Like others are saying: it depends on the area.

My elementary schools were in Brooklyn and were pretty decent.
My junior high school was in Queens and it was a zoo
My first high school was also in queens and it was dreadful

I moved to a nice area and my high school was like ****ing saved by the bell

Yes, I would agree that most private schools are better educational centers; it depends on where you live also.

I went to public school during elementary, then I was homeschooled for 6 & 7 with a tutor, and sent to a private academy for 8 - 12.

The American Educational system is a joke in general, but most of your elite schools are either private or group homeschooling organizations for catered instruction.

I've never been to an elite Private school.
I've only been to half-assed Christian private schools. :down
Public schools were better for me, than stupid Rock Church.

I've been to private schools all my life, and I'm as stupid as a bag of rabbit ****.

Of course that could be due to my poor studying habits, but I digress.

Mine had no religious affiliation, so that was never a problem for me. I guess overall, it probably deals more on an individual level with the person. It really does not matter how intelligent or how inept a person is; they have to take advantage of available resources, regardless of whether they're in a public or private school.

On the dress code, I never had a problem wearing blazers and khakis; I didn't really care about that, but I remember a lot of kids going crazy over it, as if it were some kind of attack on their creative individuality. Ha, ha, I never could understand that. Clothing = individuality.:whatever:
