The Amazing Spider-Man Does anyone else get an empty feeling from this movie?

At least Raimi's Peter "allowed" a man to die before he became Spiderman. Webb's Peter breaks promises to protect his girlfriend AFTER he learned his lesson about being a hero.

But yeah, this movie left me feeling nothing after I left the theater.

Err.. he didn't break a promise about protecting Gwen.

He obviously still promises himself to protect Gwen, he just doesn't promise to stay away from her.

Yeah he obviously promises that how exactly? That's never implied.

You know.. the fact that he.. ya know.. loves her?

I'm fairly sure that you would want to protect the people you love, but maybe that's just me.

It was unrealistic anyway. He loves her too much to stay away from her. And we can't really call it irresponsible. Otherwise he would have to stay away from every person he has feelings for. But I admit that it was probably too early to have Peter break the promise or to think about it.

Honestly, I don't even see that line at the end as breaking the promise. But a lot of people don't think that, so w/e

I didn't get the feeling of love you two seem to think was present in this movie. They were still in the flirtation stage in my eyes.

I have the feeling Peter could endanger Mary Jane previously... and yet he decided to have her in his life. Now, it's the same with Gwen.

Maybe they weren't in love. But even if they were just friends, and only friends, why wouldn't he want to always protect her?

Maybe it's just me, but I would want to protect my friends, and I would definitely want to protect my girlfriend.

Which is why people overwhelmingly prefer the Raimi films.

...No.
Just because you prefer the Raimi films doesn't mean you can make generalizations like that. ASM is getting good reviews and good money, and public opinion on the film is, contrary to what you may think, pretty high. Check twitter, check Facebook, check cinemascore, check rotten tomatoes. Everyone I know who saw it liked it significantly more than the previous three.
Your whole 'public opinion is keeping people out of the theaters' is BLATANTLY wrong. Look at the box office figures and try to argue that ridiculous point again.
Once again: just because you didn't like the film doesn't mean the majority of the GA shares your opinion.

Lol haven't been on a forum since I was like 16, I forgot just how much people push their opinions off as fact.

I think having Peter break his promise to Gwens father...i think it'll play into the sequel and third movie in a big way. He'll continue seeing her in the next one and because he's young and still isn't QUITE taking responsibility full on..it'll be a big mistake on his part. I think because he didnt honour Captain Stacys wishes, she'll get killed by Norman and it'll be his own fault.

We'll probably see him in a dark place at the end of TAMS2 as well as the third movie because he'll feel extremely guilty. And that's when you'll see the completely true Spider-Man from the comics, when he overcomes all of that. We may only get to see that towards the end of this trilogy, but i think that's the point of the trilogy that Webb is doing. There's more to tell with the parents as well.

So i dont think u were supposed to feel 100 percent satisfied by the end of this movie. Maybe there should be a sort-of "empty" feeling when the credits hit. Because there's still a lot of questions that need to be answered, and he just started as Spider-Man. He's only 17. When a couple of years pass in Peters life (couple of movies) THAT'S the Spidey we'll all know & love.

Hopefully they'll then pass it onto a different director and we can see the young but fully developed Spider-Man operate with Mary Jane, Jameson as his boss, battling Venom, Carnage, Doc Ock, etc.

Webb has said that the entire trilogy is the origin of Spider-Man.

I actually would love if this Spider-Man franchise expands into a trilogy of trilogies.

The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy, covers the origin of Spider-Man and Green Goblin
The Web of Spider-Man trilogy, continues the story of Spider-Man, introduces the symbiote/black suit, and Venom
The Spectacular Spider-Man trilogy, covers the Sinister Six with Doc Ock being the overarching villain.

But that's probably too much to wish for.

That's where the emptiness comes from. When a movie isnt made to stand on it's own and more concerned with plot threads saved for sequels, you get an incomplete movie.

Yeah, like those dfamn Lord of the Rings movies. :cmad:

I cannot imagine your fury if a Spider-man movie ended with Harry swearing revenge against Spider-man, not knowing he's his best friend, Peter kissing MJ, who now suspects Peter is Spider-man, or Norman coming back from death and asking his son to avenge him. Nothing of which happened in the movies themselves but were to happen in the sequels.

That's exactly how I interpreted Peter's comment, and I thought it was a smart move on Webb's part. It gives Peter something to angst over in the sequel and opens the door to future character development. I'm comfortable not seeing a perfect Peter just yet.

The soundtracks gave me an empty feeling at certain scenes, I think they should really do a better job with the music, I hope Horner does a superior job with his later efforts, don't want these tracks to be recycled
They owe us a directors cut.
Yes they do

Comparing TASM to LOTR now? Lol.

:whatever:
Actually Harry swearing revenge on Spiderman was a plot that organically opened at the end of the movie. TASM offered plots at the very beginning and middle of the movie that were never resolved.

They weren't meant to be resolved in the first movie.

You can call it incomplete, but it's something practiced in other mediums besides movies.
