The Amazing Spider-Man Does anyone else get an empty feeling from this movie?

TDKR has got another negative review and guess who that could be ? ......It is Devin Faraci (badassdigest.com ) who had given a negative review to TASM too.

That person is a tool. :o

His highest rated superhero movie is SM2 so he's okay in my book :cwink:

I didn't agree with his negative review of ASM but a lot of things he has a point, like the 'untold story' which pretty much goes away as early as act 2.

I didn't read a lot of the review, but here's some spoiler free quotes
"While all of this is entertaining enough, it’s also not terribly good"
"What’s worse is that it’s all meaningless"
"Every thematic element of the movie is confused"

Just making 'good' movie would mean Nolan has escaped the curse of the 3rd superhero movie.

it's not just superhero movies that suffer of that curse, it's movies overall :oldrazz:

Well, many movies outside CBMs have broken the curse, but no CBM until now, it would seem.

That's very true but some examples of 'escapees'

Toy Story 3
Back to the future 3 (well, it was better than 2)
Last Crusade
Return of the King
Return of the Jedi

but yes, 3rd movies usually SUCK.

Although I like BTTF2 much more than 3, I agree that the latter also broke the 3rd movie curse.

The Dark Knight Rises definitely will! Even though The Dark Knight and Batman Begins are among my absolute favourite movies, I'm shocked at how great scores from early reviews this film has gotten. I know that I shouldn't be surprised, but many say it's even better than The Dark Knight and gets 5/5 almost everywhere. I really wouldn't expect it to top The Dark Knight before.

It may not top it, but it's definitely got a chance. Right now it's not even in its 90s. Low 80s atm.

I'd also like to submit the Bourne ultimatum, Oceans 13, die hard with a vengeance, Mission impossible 3 and Goldfinger

The issues you mentioned weren't an integral part of the character's origin.

I wasn't aware Frodo destroying the ring was part of Frodo's origin. Maybe I got it wrong.

Oh, so you realized I was right and decided to include the "part of the origin" clause in the last minute, the same ytou added "major plot points" when the original discussion was about only "plot threads"?

If you please stopped changing the subject...

Perhaps I did not explain myself then. Yes, I was talking about things integral to the origin, like Peter finding the man who killed Uncle Ben.

Either way, all those issues raised (apart from the Superman one) happened in the final act of those movies and were directly related to the plot of the sequel.

Regardless, I don't think either of us will be changing our opinion so we may as well drop this.

Personally I am of the opinion that the original franchise still had so many places it could go (Sandman still alive, Symbiote still alive in Connors Lab, Lizard unexplored) and it seems a waste to reboot it. Green Goblin and Doc Ock will be hard to tackle from here on out because of the fantastic performances of the 2 actors who played them in the Raimiverse.

The porevious franchise had many places to go but the Peter-MJ relationship was over-stretched already. Those places to go probably included an evil guy who turns out to be a good-hearted man and MJ being kidnapped again.

Yea.. that 'untold story' probably had nothing to do with Peter being genetically modified by his father. It seems like it was always planned to span the trilogy.

it is a very good movie but when i really look at it

- peter still the cause of uncle ben dying
- uncle ben is still the reason for him to become a hero
- costume idea is still pro wrestling influenced
- still hunts down the killer of ben
- still has a villain he has a personal connection with who just happened to have a split personality like norman as goblin did
- still gets bullied by flash

and much much more i feel they should'nt done an origin since all of these elements in this film were so similair to SM1

To me, they did repeat these things, but they did it better and grounded more in reality.

I saw this film twice now and have teared up nearly 6-8 times, and I haven't done that with any other CBM except for Batman Begins, and even then I only tear up in pride/happiness, not sadness/heart felt emotion. This film is far, far, far from empty.

I have a feeling that for me it will. I have a feeling it will be a 10/10 and be my favourite movie with ASM. Though I shouldn't expect it because with too high expectations you risk being disappointed even if it's a great film.

Anyway, sorry for being OT.

Ya know, I wanted to go to the theaters and see TASM and TDKR the same day.. but almost all theaters around me are removing all other movies on TDKR weekend >.<

So I'll have to wait for a week or two.

Yeah the hype for TDKR is really huge! And well deserved, Nolan seems to get better and better!

Ya know, I did have an empty feeling..

I wanted the movie to have an official 'song'. The Avengers actually had one specifically made for the movie, and had it's own music video before the movie released.

It would of been awesome to see a TASM music video with one of the songs featured in it.

These are essential components from the source material, can't be changed

Um no. I don't why you would make such a huge leap in logic there.

1) You hate movies with plots that are left or sequels to solve.
2) Most superhero movies do.
3) You hate most superhero movies.

C'mon Payaso, be honest, there must have been moments during ASM where you were thinking that certain plotlines simply go away. I not saying that's a bad thing but you must have been thinking it.
