does anyone here have diabetes

I'm at the gym 4-5 times a week for years now...

The diet WAS the hard part for me ever since i was diagnosed with type 2 couple of months ago. It's not that i ate only junk food and liters of soda, but i'm a coffee nut and yeah...lotsa sugars. Also, i have family members with Diabetes, so it might be hereditary .

I'm getting used to the diet now.And with the medicines they gave me, my blood sugar count has been 'normal ' again for about a month now.

Yeah, family history certainly doesn't help, even if you exercise a lot.

That's great! It'll take some time, but that's fantastic! Keep it up! :awesome:

^^ i was actually pretty depressed when i was first diagnosed with type 2. The idea that from that moment on i have to make some changes and taking pills for the rest of my life...well, it was a lot to take in for me personally.

It always is, and being overwhelmed and down when you find out is completely normal.

Thinking of it as choosing to take charge of your own health. You're choosing to take these pills to make yourself more healthy. Nobody's forcing you. You're not a slave to them - they're just a tool. You have the make the decision to use it.

^^That's pretty much how i look at it now.

Still, the first few weeks was rough.I have never have to take pills for anything in my life before, other than the occasional flu pills etc, and the thought that this is how it's gonna be for the foreseeable future.

LOL i was actually felt ashamed too if that's makes any sense. What if someone saw me taking these pills while i'm having dinner?what do i tell 'em?

And i actually haven't told anybody yet...

Just tell 'em you're taking charge of your health, and those pills help you do that. :yay: It shouldn't be something you're ashamed of. Many people, considering the health state of this country today, don't do even that.

At least explaining taking pills for your health makes a lot more sense than my osteoporosis sob story that I tell to the guys at the gym who try to hit on me. :hehe:

LOL...and does it work? do they still hit on you?

And yeah, now i gotta change my training as well.Used to be, i go to the gym just to let off some steam.Lifting weights always has this..calming effect.

Now it's more cardio, which is a bit of a challenge since i smoke like a chimney.

Anyone know what my problem could be? I've been checked for std's, uti's and diabetes and so far they are coming up with nothing. For the past year I've had to urinate every ten minutes when active. I can hold if I absolutely have to, but usually have to urinate every ten minutes. It doesn't wake me up at night or anything, but it is annoying during the day. I did drink alcohol very heavy for 6 years. I think I'm just going to have to live with this and understand it's apart of me now.

Have you gone to a doctor about it? Don't check Web M.D...That website would say you have cancer just because you got a papercut.
That's certainly odd, but it seems like something that would have a solution.

As far as the original topic, I don't have diabetes, but quite a few people in my family do, my best friend has type 1, and an old flame also had it, so I'm well versed in the ways of diabeetus.:oldrazz:

I have Type 1. Had it for 10 years now and have to do insulin injections 4 times a day
When I was first diagnosed, it was pretty difficult, being a kid and all. But now, it's pretty manageable now. Still has it's annoyances, especially when it comes to holidays like Easter, Halloween and Christmas, but I'm pretty well controlled

If it's a friend or family member, I don't see why you would be ashamed. You have a condition, and are taking the appropriate steps to deal with it. You aren't taking drugs to get high, you're using them for their proper function. The wrong decision would be to avoid the meds just because you don't like taking pills.

Cardio is wonderful, but don't give up on the weights. Your body works around the clock to build/maintain muscle mass. This is great for the regulation of blood sugar. Give time to both, and don't leave out the post- workout stretching.

Diabetes can be defeated. Please get it early and try to maintain with all the effort you can. I'm talking specifically Type II Diabetes. It's a lifestyle change, but one that is actually a blessing in disguise since instead of just desiring to be healthy, it becomes a necessity.

And please stop it before it gets to the point where you get neuropathy. My mother is suffering from neuropathy due to her diabetes and it kills me. It absolutely breaks my heart to feel so helpless. Things people take for granted like sitting or walking becomes painful on some of those days. The fact that there isn't any real treatment is absolutely devastating.
