Does anyone know whats going on with Squadron Supreme?

I'm pretty sure it's just on hold until this whole Ultimates/Squadron mini is sorted out. Sort of stupid if you ask me, considering the last issue of Squadron Supreme was a cliffhanger.

Even though Thor beat Hyperion, it was only because of the 'Kryptonite'.
Thor's beaten Hyperion without that. He'd definitely beat the original Squadron Supreme's Hyperion now that JMS has boosted him back up to his classic power level. He'd probably beat the Supreme Power Hyperion, too. It's not really Hyperion's fault though; as an analogue to one of DC's characters, it's kind of his job to lose to Marvel's big-name heroes.

There's an alternate reality version of Hyperion who's pretty much an unstoppable badass. Blink beat him by teleporting his own "heat vision" (I can't remember what Hype's version of it is called) back onto him, severing his spine (he recovered), and it took two other versions of Hyperion just to hold him at bay another time.

What makes one alternate Hyperion stronger than another alternate Hyperion?

I don't know, random differences between universes? The fact that the badass Hyperion was totally evil and would kill you without hesitation probably helped him, too.

Maybe the good Hyperions subconsciously hold back.

That seems to be the case for most heroes.

Except Thor, who'll now knock terrorists around with Mjolnir in a hilarious-but-almost-cruel display of excessive force. :)

Much like superman. Even after seeing Doomsday rip his wife in half right in front of him, he still holds back enough not to kill Batman. (who would be the person he's really attacking, while thinking he's Doomsday, who just ripped his wife in half.)

That's because Superman sucks. :o

That arc was kind of lame. There's another arc featuring a villain called Manchester Black that's sort of similar, only Superman deliberately chooses not to kill him, in spite of Black telepathically making Supes think he's killed Lois and basically ruined his life. The main difference between the two arcs is that the Manchester Black one was awesome.

Superman choosing not to kill someone that just ruined his entire life through murder makes him so unlikeable, to me. The best Superman stories involved a more human, relateable Clark. Not some utlra boy scout who sacrifices everything for an ideal. I hate that ****. No one is like that.

As was the first appearance of Manchester Black and his Elite. That issue really showed you why Superman was awesome, and you really shouldn't f**k with him or he'll make you all look dead.

Oh, I know. "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" is one of my all-time favorite Superman stories. It made Clark badass while reaffirming Superman's status as the greatest and the best of Earth's superheroes for all the right reasons.
