This was something I noticed in the film. Jason stares at the Kryptonite, for a long time but it doesnt make him weaker. It obviously had some effect on him but it wasnt clear what.

Then, Jason suddenly had the strength to push that piano and didnt need his inhaler anymore...

Does Kryptonite actually give Jason superpowers? Thats quite a reversal.

Honestly, I don't think Singer even has a clue about that scene. It's so heavy handed and awkward. It feels like a deleted DVD scene.

If I had to guess i'd say that exposure to the Kryptonite activated his powers or something. It took me a minute to remember what you were even talking about because I completely blocked the kid out of my mind, he's dead to me.

Sounds like a Smallville plot device. It think it was more of a mental thing, rather than exposure to krrrrrryptonite, as Luthor would say...

Jason had the power to toss the piano the whole time. It was Lois who kept Jason in check, mentally.

I would assume that Kryptonite would have practically no effect on Jason. But since he IS half Kryptonian, Kryptonite must have some sort of diminished poisoning effect on him. You could argue that when the Kryptonian and human DNA combined to form Jason's genetic structure, something entirely new emerged. So maybe Kryptonite DID enhances Jason's natural abilities. Though I think that's highly unlikely.

No, his powers simply manifest in childhood, and are triggered by periods of heightened emotional stress......whoops, wrong movie. Curse you, Singer!

the kid sure does have good aim

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Well said. Thanks for the cheap laugh. Tis true. Too true.

To answer that question, I agree. I don't think that was the original intention, but if Singer or his underlings frequent message boards and read about this little development on the Hype, it's probably in the sequel now.

Or alternately, if there's a "Kryptonite weakness" gene, it may simply have been recessive to a dominant human gene, leaving Jason unaffected.

that line with the picture of the Cookie Monster's mug shot next to it made me crack the hell up. And I dont usually laugh at lines like that, but the two combined.

I'm just gonna say, that there is no human gene that is dominant over a kryptonian one. This is a race 1000's if not millions of years ahead of us. Their physiology absorbes sunlight to give them god like powers. Kryptonian genes would eat human genes for breakfast.

Ok, before I say what I want to, I have to say, I'm not a HUGE Superman fan, but I did enjoy the movies, as well as Superman Returns. My thing is, in the scene where they say Superman is back in everyone's lives, the kid begins to have an attack as he stares at Superman on the tv and then at Clark. Does that mean that he KNOWS he is Superman?? And if so, why doesn't he tell his mother of his suspitions? Just something I wondered about. I mean, if a kid thought someone was Superman, wouldn't ya think he would point and say, "HEY, it's SUPERMAN!!" Hmmm....

Maybe he didn't know, then?

Anyways, it's impossible to know for sure unless it's established in the sequel. I mean, maybe it did unlock some kind of Krytponian dna code within him. Maybe it didn't affect him at all. Maybe it did affect him, but we couldn't tell. Pretty open ended I think.

The word you are searching for is 'vague.'

Bryan is good at 'vague'. He excels at it. He mentioned S1 being a vague history, but SR itself was far too vague in places (X1 and X2 were also). Vague in not answering things, and vague in not showing clarity, definition and consistency. It's okay to leave some things open, to allow people to think... but you also need structure and answers, or the movie will become a shapeless, indulgent bore and the audience will be unsatisfied (as has happened).

What?

Dude, all I'm saying is that maybe the kid didn't know. All we got were some asthma induced looks from a tv screen to Clark Kent.

Maybe, the trip is that he SHOULD see the similarites, but doesn't b/c nobody else does. Or, maybe by the end of the film we realize he saw something that nobody else did b/c he's his own flesh and blood.

Hey, it's something to discuss, and I kinda like it. Not everything needs to be laid out clear as day.

It was a confusing scene and I was wondering that. Maybe it doesn't affect so much yet.

He isn't staring at it for all that long. Compared to the time it took before Superman noticed anything was wrong upon landing on the island, it wasn't so long at all. Also, he's sucking on that puffer pretty good in that scene, remember? Kryptonite induced Asthma attacks? Sounds like it has an effect on him to me. And how the hell do we know if it made him weaker or not? He's sitting on his mother's lap... if you're sitting down, and suddenly become weaker, what happens? I'm going to say.... NOTHING. It's not like he was lifting weights or something that actually could guage his strength. It certainly isn't the difference between Kryptonian strength and humanlike strength that would determine if he could or could not remain sitting. I mean, Superman was still walking once he was on the Kryptonite island for a good while: it was the beating that put him on his back.

You're trying a bit too hard to find new twists in the plot.

jason is like blade...all the strengths, none of the weaknesses.

But Blade kills vampires for a living.

Hmmmmm...

;)

Maybe it doesn't affect him, because he's not from Krypton. Just a thought.

it was not kryptonie island. it was new krypton. it was like planet krypton but on earth. lex and hes guys put a little kryptonite in there. so it is only land with some kryptonite. this is how i thought it was meant to be.

it is not 100% kryptonie. it is not even 30% IMO.

Here's a bigger plot hole (concerning Jason too):

When Superman banged (or impragnated, whatever you wanna call it) Lois in Superman 2 he had to give up his powers....so how come Jason ended with superpowers at all?

Or maybe I just remember the order of sequences wrong...I dunno...

Maybe the chamber didn't destroy his powers on the genetic level (we don't really know how the rays work anyway) so Superman's Kryptonian genes could've been passed on to Jason.

I think he's like hercules, only inheriting a few of his father's traits.
