I figured someone on these boards would know the answer to this question, so I figured I'd save some time and ask. And by A.D.D., I mean Attention-deficit disorder.

Withholding vital medical information from the military?

umad?

There's schools of thought on that.

Either way, they allow people with histories of it in all the time, as long as said person doesn't admit to it.

I guess in some instances it could be an advantage as you'd always be pretty much on your toes about everything and not slack off. But depends on the type.

''Private! We need cover!''

''Hey Look! A cloud!''

I'm going to hell, I know. But this is an interesting question. I guess if he isn't one of those crazy ADD guys and has some smarts and such then I guess it would be ok.

*please note I know nothing about ADD or anything human related, Transformers 2 rocked*

Have you been diagnosed with it or been prescribed medicine for it? If so, then you won't be able to hide it because one of the items you'll be required to sign will be a release of medical records...and they will check them all the way back to birth.

If you get in and then it's diagnosed later on, it's not an automatic thing that you'll be separated...I had several co-workers diagnosed with ADD and or ADHD; all of whom were on meds and stayed in the service.

Good luck either way.

yea...I remember in basic, a guy got bounced for not disclosing epilepsy...he had a near seizure while PTing

The Air Force took my cousin who has ADD-he had been on prescriptions all through high school for it. He is still there and doing well (3+ years now).

The sad part is, you sign the release, and they still don't really go about checking it. =/

But I'm going to guess he isn't flying F-16s' though.

True sometimes, but heaven help you if you lie about it or attempt to hide it. Then they can pull the trump card out and hit you with falsifying government documents and make life more difficult for you.

Yeah, if you're caught lying while in training, it's just a general discharge with honorable intent.

Busted with that beyond? Your life is pretty much hit the grate.

I don't see why they wouldn't...

In fact if someone had to get caught and sent into a POW camp I'm sure the Government would prefer it be someone with ADHD to make life hell for their captors... heh.
