This a thread to discuss if true love really exists. The first question is do you think true love really exists? The second question is do you think that soulmates really exist? Meaning do you think there is a person that another person is meant to be with.

Well, false love exists, and there can be no yin without the yang, so yes, I suppose true love does exist, young grasshopper.

I believe that true love really does exist. I also believe there is a such thing as soulmates. Although I believe that actually find that person is harder than people expect.

Yes, and no. True love doesn't exist in the sense that you could never find a perfect soulmate. No soul is perfectly compatable with another. People's differences, similarities and situations are ultimately going to create some degree of irreconcilable distance. That doesn't however mean you cannot get close to a "perfect match".

As for soulmates; people who are meant to be together. This can be a dangerous thought.

1) For anyone whose been 'in love' you realize that at that moment that person you're in love with can be like a soulmate, and in your head this is the person you're meant to be with. Don't be so blind though as to think that this feeling necessarily lasts forever. Most marriages are not lust and passion forever and ever till the end of time...that desire for more will always exist.

2) You really shouldn't start thinking you are "meant" to be with someone, because that can cloud your judgement. You are meant to be with anyone who doesn't feel they are meant to be with you. So in a way it's not that you are meant for anyone but you share a raport with another person. This isn't a possessive thing, it's an exchange.

No and no. True 'getting on with someone really well' exists, though.

Yes, true love exists.

Not so sure about the "soulmate" aspect though.

Yes I agree that is impossible for someone to find somone that is perfect for somoneelse. But I do believe that there is a woman if you find her who truly is someone special and rare where you have a connection, chemistry, attraction, looks amazing, beautiful, makes feel you better, want to see again, and makes you feel like you have more energy.

Actually, there's about a million, maybe more.

Does believing make what you believe in to be fact?

I don't know if 'true love' exists but I sure as heck hope that it does.

Btw, what do you think of this statement:
"The mind can calculate, but the spirit yearns and the heart knows."

PS. This thread has a 'deja vu' feeling to it. Was there a thread like this before?

I'm pretty sure true love exists. However, you gotta look at 'true' in context. A few hundred years back, you said that the sun went around the earth, you'd have been telling the truth, for all intents and purposes. Nowadays... the people that swear its the truth are loco.

So, take your 'true' with a pinch of salt and there you have it. I'm pretty sure that my wife and I are soulmates, and that what we have it true love. Still the definition of true is liable to change in the next 40 years. If we're still together when I turn 60, nobody is going to be more surprised than me. I haven't made an estimate on how long we'll be together, and I don't want to, but the 'together forever' ideal is a little unrealistic. Thats not to say that what we have isn't love, just that things change.

Well except I have been attracted to women in the past except I have only met one that has made feel a postive feeling I never felt until I met her and like I had a lot more energy.

No nevah!

PS: Yeah there have been tons.

I have...a lot in fact:huh:

That's what I thought... to both.

No answer to the 'statement' question?

Btw... kaz's post made me think of this song:
"... Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm 64."

true love = overglorified chemical response to favored traits

And the concept of two people who love each other equally is just laughable. One person is ALWAYS more in love than the other.

^Is that a fact or your belief?

I don't know if I'd say it's 'laughable' (you're so negative :( ) but I think you could be right.

I'd be more inclined to share my opinion on this topic if I hadn't stated it in many other threads about the exact same thing :csad:
