Superman Returns Don't turn your back on Superman.

I loved Superman Returns and would never turn my back on the Man of Steel.

However having said that, I must admit that it is kinda annoying that Singer doesn't use the comic books for research...I mean c'mon, Christopher Nolan isn't that much of a comic reader either, but he still did the homework.
Singer still did a great job, and the writers other than Bryan did read the books. It felt more like the comics than the second one. There is nothing wrong at all with this movie. And those complaining are complaining just to be jerks.

I couldn't believe that when I came on here there were all sorts of bashing, when everyone said how great it was even though they didn't see it.

Those that saw some ahead of time, or previews said it was great, then the internet geeks get started bashing it and the other mindless idiots just follow them.

Where was the comic influence again? All I saw was Donner influence!

Even if the writers did read the comics, it didn't show!!

There is nothing wrong with pacing. It is making alot of money. It broke records the first day, it will make a ton more.

It is everything and more that people were hoping for, so quit complaining, it's everything people were thinking it would be. Everyone knew the whole story here at the spoilers forum, it's just like everything we heard, so don't act like it's not what you thought. SR rocks! singer did a wonderful job.

I'll never turn my back on Superman the character but WB makes me sick to my stomach.

BTW SR is much better in IMAX.

..

the problem there being Imax accounts for probubly less then 5% of a movies total Box office...Probubly the reason why Spiderman has always nah....we don't need no STINKING IMAX film.... it would be great... but the money spent creating an IMAX verzion.... is almost never made up

Superman Birthright= Crap on a stick nothing even remotely interesting except the part where he was in africa, everything was nauseating.

Superman for all Season= Sure if you like shy naive, Superpussy instead of Superman, fine. I puked when I read the comic

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel= haven't read it yet, don't plan to I hate the art work. Bermejo fits Batman but his Superman looks horrid.

I'll take the Donner movie over the above drivel, thank you. Superman was perfect exactly how he should be, gentle, confident, intelligent, inspirational the origin has never been done better.

As for the comics, Bronze Age is the only way to go, not Superclown from the Silver Age and not Superpussy from Post-Crisis. Gimme the Superman from "For the Man who has Everything" and "What happened to the Man of Tomorrow" andyday over "Birthtrite" and "Man of Stool".

This guy gets it.

I asked a question...

Where is the influence from the comics in Superman Returns that isn't based off of Donner's Superman? The writers read the comics, where is the proof?

And don't say Perry White ad the Fleischer like scene, thats all I saw that wasn't from Donner's film!!!

That is all completely a matter of your own opinion, I don't see how you can speak for "everyone" and "everything" and tell us to stop voicing our opinions because yours is somehow intrinsically superior. It's not a that good a movie.

It's everything and more that you were hoping for. If you don't want to hear complaints then don't read the complaint threads? At least that's what the "SR praisers" always say to the "whiners" but in reverse. Don't be hypocrites people.

The film should be judged on it's merits and many of us judge it as only satisfactory or less than satisfactory.

Birthright - Superman's learning the ropes, he's still more Clark Kent than Superman. It's a "new" origin story. Frankly I'm more interested in the characterizations of Lois and Luthor.

Superman for all Seasons - Superpussy? Gentle giant is more like it. It's a Rockwellian Superman, golden age look but a modern day style. Again, this is more of Clark Kent overcoming his fears and becoming the resolute hero.

Donner's Superman is a Superman maybe 5-10 years removed from his arrival in Metropolis, by then, he's well polished and gentle, confident, intelligent, inspirational as you (AND I) prefer. But there has to be a transition. Those two comics show that transition. To be honest, I don't care for it much either and it is pretty much uninspiring with a slouching Clark or wandering with Lana in the snow, etc...But again, far more interested in Lois and Luthor.

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel -> I think you are missing out. Superman is supposed to look more gharish and quite literally brutal. The story is distorted and bent by Lex's pereception of Superman as the horrible alien interloper. Again, I'm far more interested in Lex than I ever am of Superman. I agree the suit isn't the best. Good boots, ugly suit seam, S is too big even for a fan of big S's like I am.

Yes, because people should support the film because it has Superman in the title and should forget that it is a total rip off the 1978 film. :down

It's really telling that nobody has an answer for this question........

i guess the actions comics#1 cover scene went over your head..

That's not reading a comic for content - that's called reproducing a cover image of Superman that has been copied thousands of times and everybody has seen.

Those of us who are being negative - are being negative not just for the sake of being negative - or for the sake of hating Superman.

We are being negative because we saw great potential for an epic modern Superman film and were greatly disappointed in wasted potential that just feels like a shame.

Seeing SR was like seeing an old friend that used to be the best...but is now crippled or sick. You just feel sorry for him and wish that things would have been different and you want to help, but you can't because it's totally out of your control.

A lot of people I'm talking to say that Superman (or rather the creators of this movie) turned their back on them, not the other way around. ALA thechubbysaint.

I think WB turned their backs on us to be honest.

Honestly I dont know where all the negative opinions are coming from. I absolutely hated the kid being in the movie, but the movie truned out well. Every person i heard talking about the movie when they were leaving were saying they liked it. The people i saw it with really enjoyed it. I was actually expecting to really dislike the movie, I thought i would for months now.

Maybe you all went in with your expectations to high. I think Spacey was great, Routh was Superman, and the kid was a stupid plot device that actually didnt detract to much from the movie.

I second that. Kal-El2006 has yet to come up with one good point that can hold it's ground!!

Nope, thats just a cover, and an old cover at that, I want some more proof :down

Superman Returns is the real sequel to Superman II, Singer did a great job honoring the original movies. As for the comics, the suit was based of very early comics and not of the movies. Personally I am glad that SR was not as goofy as STM, this one is more believable than the originals.

What happens if I turn my back on Superman?

Will he stalk me like a perv?

Or maybe he'll fly away crying like some pathetic emo.

um, according to that link SR made 81 million in 5-days, not 104 million.

I'll never turn my back on the character of Superman, but I will turn back on a certain film called Superman Returns!
