Don't you just hate movies censored for TV?

Just read this on wikipedia, regarding the movie Bran Stoker's Dracula;

"In 1997 an edited version of the film was broadcast on the FOX network. This version cuts out the character of Renfield entirely. Other edits and changes are the introduction of the Brides who are clothed in rags as opposed to their seductive nude scene in the theatrical version. It also cuts out Dracula giving them the infant to feast on; instead Dracula converses with them about finding love. Scenes of Lucy's introduction have been re-dubbed due to her quirky remarks and the illustrations in the Arabian Nights book have been blacked out. Also a part of Mina and Lucy’s later conversation in the garden as well as shots of the vessel Varna and Dracula howling as the wolf creature have been taken out completely.

The first attack of Lucy is shortened in the televised version. It cuts out some footage of Lucy walking around the maze and Mina calling and searching for her. Dubbed in is Mina calling Lucy several times more. Also cut is when Mina sees Dracula appearing to be raping Lucy. In stead it seems that he just bites her throat. Also Lucy's clothes aren't torn. In several scenes Lucy has violent fits, causing her chemise to fall open displaying one or both of her breasts. But this never happens in the televised version in which she is portrayed with chemise intact due to digital paint and clever editing. Lucy's destruction is only hinted at and heard, but never shown."

So annoying. If the movie is not appropriate, don't show it!

In the UK, we have equally ridiculous censorship. The most notorious is possibly during an afternoon showing of Ghostbusters. Instead of saying, "I've seen s**t that'll turn you white!" an awful piece of tampering has Winston saying, "I've seen shhtuck that'll turn you white!"

Kev I agree I hated it when they mess with good films on tv.

I agree. For example, when Goodfellas and movies of that nature are aired on cable, it is said that the violence and language is drastically cut down to the point where it's literally dumbed down in terms of dialogue ("darn" replaces damn and I've heard "maggot farmer" replaces Sam Jackson's favorite word) and grittiness to the point where it kills the movie.

Pretty farmed up, don't you think?

Some of them can be funny, for example, the Die Hard movies. One line was something like "move your fat feet" or something like that, which obviously was not what was in the original movie. I was laughing my ass off listening to how they interchanged profanity with very bad -- but clean -- lines.

I think a neat bonus feature of a DVD would be the censored 'for television' version, especially for a movie with loads of profanity.

Pulp Fiction isn't even worth watching on network television, unless it's on IFC which is my favorite channel to watch movies uncut on.

How about just renting the DVD instead of complaining about its rendition on tv.

How about going to a thread you agree with instead of complaining about one you don't? ;)

Why complain at all, when there are other viable options that better suit your preference and sensabilities.

Oh come on, if we stopped complaining on these boards no-one would ever post anything. ;)

I don't even bother with watching movies on standard television anymore. It's DVD, Theater or a movie channel.

Well I have no good retort to this, it makes too much sense damnit.

Best ones include:

"Yippy Ki Aye My Good Fellow!"

"How about I give you the flipper and you give me my phone call"

and "Right on my sandwich after you eat it" from "Right on my ass after you kiss it."

It irritates me too, but it's so funny to watch.

But one time, when I was in Canada with my brother who was playing in a hockey tournament, I was flipping channels in the hotel, and Bram Stoker's Dracula was on. And they showed the boobies. I thought that was pretty trippy, since it didn't seem like one of those uncut channels. What, with the commercials and all.

I love 'em 'cause they're funny, provided I own the original uncut version.

Classic.

Can't wait to see how Kitty Pride's, "Who's hiding, d******d?" is re-jigged.

i think the warning at the beginning of the movie are good enough. let them be shown how they were made.

Ever seen Army Of Darkness of the Sci-Fi Channel? They edit out when Ash says his name in the scene were he & the evil Ash breaks apart & the good Ash says "I'm Good Ash & You're bad Ash".

When they air the movie Nightbreed on cable they edit out a line in the movie were a character says "God is an astronaut" there's nothing remotely dirty or offensive about that & still they edit it out of the movie.

Robocop has one of the worse tv edits ever..

don't believe me?

Dick Jones : "i used to call the old man funny names..iron butt,*****, once..i even called him AIR HEAD, but there was always respect, and i knew where to draw the line."

"you just freaked with the wrong guy"

"you out of your freaking mind"

HAHAHAH! I've got to say, that's pretty clever.

I was watching the Matrix on TV recently, and...is it scary when I can tell where they shaved off a few seconds merely due to time constraints?

My favorite is in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

"Cameron is so tight, that if you stuck a lump of coal in his fist, in two weeks you'd have a diamond."

Robocop is bad, but the worst IMO is Breakfast Club. They cut out entirely the fact they're high, and they just randomly start dancing/getting along/emoting without any explanation.

Also:
"Eat my shorts!"
"What did you just say?"
"EAT...MY...SHORTS!"
