After reading reviews and liking what I hear/see, I then buy a day or two before release. For PS4 exclusives, I never had Amazon not deliver on release day. If I show up at my local game store, they always have copies available. For digital PC, I pre-install whenever it is available and simply click Play on release day.If I'm going to get a game on day 1 then might as well just pre order days before release. Especially since I go digitally
Eh, I'm good with Doom64 EX. Heck, I won't be surprised if id actually uses it for their version...You get the rerelease of Doom 64 if you pre-order as well. That game is criminally underrated
Doom 3 was just a poor man's System Shock.Doom 2016 took the franchise back on top after Doom 3 (Not terrible but the weakest). Eternal will just be the cherry on top!
Yes. Doom has now overtaken some once great franchises that are on the decline. It shows that franchises don’t have some self imposed ceiling. You can break out way down the line to new levels or to reclaim past glories.Playing the last one was a bizarre experience for me. I was never really a Doom guy, but I gave the last one a chance after the Wolfenstein reboot won me over. The last one was so, so good. One of the best shooters I have ever played.

How many Doom games have there been altogether now? Same question for Wolfenstein.
Thanks for that. I don't know much about Doom 64 or Doom VR. Are they good?7 with Eternal but there's also been mobile games and special editions. Not sure about Wolfenstein
Doom
Doom II
Doom 3
Doom 64
Doom(2016)
Doom VR
Doom Eternal
The list is missing Final Doom which is its own game. Doom VFR is just recycled content from 2016 with ****tier controls. Thanks for that. I don't know much about Doom 64 or Doom VR. Are they good?
Thanks!!
A lot more Wolfenstein games than I expected.
Great knowledge.Indeed, Rise of the Triad also originally started out as Wolfenstein: Rise of the Triad but became it's own game.

Even without the Doom legacy it doesn't hold up to contemporary games in the genre like Unreal Tournament 2004, Counter Strike: Source, Half Life 2, or Halo 2 which all released the same year.I like Doom 3 just not as a Doom game. It's like Carmack hit his head at some point and thought he was making a sequel to System Shock.
Eh considering the lacking of quality in horror games of that era, I'd saying you're being a bit hard on it on that front but yes as an action game it is lacking compared to it's peers. As an off brand dumbed down version of System Shock, I think it works in that limited context.Even without the Doom legacy it doesn't hold up to contemporary games in the genre like Unreal Tournament 2004, Counter Strike: Source, Half Life 2, or Halo 2 which all released the same year.
Doom 3 is mostly walking down dark hallways from one jump scare to the next. The gunplay isn't satisfying either. It's not good as an action game, it's not good as a horror game.
It's a glorified tech demo for new rendering techniques and sound design features of the era. That's the best that can be said for it.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was some of my favourite gaming moments back in the early 2000s. The multiplayer mode was fantastic. The list is missing Final Doom which is its own game. Doom VFR is just recycled content from 2016 with ****tier controls.
Castle Wolfenstein
Beyond Castle Wolfenstein
Wolfenstein 3D
Spear of Destiny
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Wolfenstein 2009
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot
And there's a mobile RPG spin-off.
Supplies are too abundant for it to really work as a horror game. You're never really that threatened because you always have enough health and ammo. The only tension the game creates is through artificial means (ie, making you trade off between being able to see with the flashlight or defend yourself).Eh considering the lacking of quality in horror games of that era, I'd saying you're being a bit hard on it on that front but yes as an action game it is lacking compared to it's peers. You just described the majority of the Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchise and modern "horror" games like Amnesia. There's an active amount having to make your own rules for these games to be even close to tense because they're laughably unbalanced and far more concerned with you being able to get through the game than actual survival horror. What you're describing are problems of the genre as a whole that are not just exclusive to Doom 3.Supplies are too abundant for it to really work as a horror game. The encounters are mostly just unloading way too many bullets into braindead enemies.
Doom 3 is alright and kinda underrated but definently the weakest Doom I've played, which is most of them except Final Doom, Ultimate Doom, VR and mobile.
Doom, Doom II, Doom 64 and Doom 2016 are not just my favorites in the franchise but among my favorite video games of all time
