Doomsday Lives!

I've always preferred Adam to Captain Marvel. He could do with a suit redesign, though. Black leotard and gaudy flash symbol doesn't really scream "superhuman middle eastern dictator", to me.

Okay is this the real deal holyfield Doomday or the ****efest that was Doomsday rex?:o

Looks like the real deal.

It screams "badass, morally questionable counterpart to Captain Marvel" to me, which is good.

But since Captain Marvel is no more (in that guise, anyway), Adam's costume is meaningless and outdated.

No, it's not. CM is still CM. He's just stuck in the Rock of Eternity.

On that note, I feel bad for the guy. He's a 17 year old virgin who's stuck in a magic rock for all time. That's got to hurt your love life.

I don't see anything outdated about it, myself. It's a strong design with an homage to his origins and no embarrassing elements, really. The only thing I might change is the lightning symbol, and that'd just be to switch the painted-on symbol to the golden lightning neck-band he wore in ancient times.

If you're looking at him solely in the dictator mode, though, I guess a normal suit would make more sense. I've never been a big fan of dressing super-powered characters down, though. Costumes are part of the fun of comics.

Well, I like to dress characters down when it fits the characters. There are plenty of characters for whome wearing a decorative costume makes sense. Spider-Man was about 16 when he got his powers, and you'd expect a 16 year old super hero to wear a flashy costume. Superman is quite powerful, and doesn't need his costume to be overly practical. Batman's suit, although I personally would change the color scheme a bit, is meant for psychological warfare. In the dark, he looks like a huge bat. Other characters, like Bullseye and Hawkeye, don't really seem like the types of people who would wear costumes like that. So, I would have to problem in tweaking their looks or dressing them down to fit that.

Keep the costumes on people. The time for "normal dressed" super powered characters has passed. Don't worry the trend will return some day.

I hate that halfway application of real-world logic to comics. Costumes are a staple of the superhero aesthetic. Even the Punisher, arguably the man who would least likely wear a costume, has a recognizable symbol that he puts on for all his missions. Whether they serve a purpose or not, I think costumes are just something people should accept in superhero comics like powers and radiation doing anything besides giving people cancer.

I would argue for a simple aesthetic change- remove the lighning strike. Adam had the pointy ears, the black leotard, the golden boots and the belt to identify him. The symbol seems like a bit of clutter to me.

Oh, I have nothing agaisnt a regular look for each character. In fact, I'd expcet it. I'm just saying, do it when it works for the character. The Punisher's costume is basically a leather jacket and a kevlar vest with a skull on it. Works for the character perfectly. I'd, personally, have no problem with changing Hawkeye's look. I'd keep the color scheme, but since he doesn't have a secret identity, I'd ditch the mask. And the pirate boots. Captain America should be the only character to wear pirate boots. My opinion, of course. I just like to have a costume when it works for the character, you know. Or at least, have the costume work for the character. I understand that costumes are apart of comics. But they don't all have to be colorful, impractical, and flamboiant.

Geez folks, what happened to the kid inside you that just accepted when a character throws on a gaudy costume to fight crime. You guys have got to relearn how to lose yourself and be a kid again when you read superhero comics.

Why. I don't mind the gaudy costumes one bit, if it fits with the character. With Superman, it works. With Spiderman, it works With Hawkeye, not so much. Not saying he shouldn't wear a costume at all. Just saying, his look needs a redesign. It's not that big a deal, but I would rather like to see it happen.

I think they tried to change Hawkeyes costume, but it didnt go over well. I think his suit from the 90s avengers cartoon made it to the comic for a little while. I could be wrong though.

How does it not work with Hawkeye? He's a superhero who's happy living the superhero lifestyle. Furthermore, he was a circus performer before becoming a super-criminal and, later, a superhero. Seems like Hawkeye's one of the characters for whom having a costume makes most sense. As for the costume itself, the colors are a bit awkward, but I've always liked his costume. He could switch back to his Thunderbolts costume (the one with the blue sleeves) instead of the sleeveless one he had for a while, but overall his costume's just classic and recognizable.

But... the lightning bolt is the central element. Without it, he just looks like Namor on a cold day to me. :(

I get ya'. I'm just saying, some characters, the classic superhero style costume doesn't work. I still think Hawykeye should drop the pirate boots, and maybe the mask.

I don't know, I'm a pirate boot fanatic. Cap, Hawkeye, the Marvel family... pirate boots for all, I say. :p

I don't object to the lightening-bolt iconography as such, I just dislike its representation. Large, bright, and chest-filling; it seems like an archetypal "Superhero beacon", which doesn't really reflect what Adam is at the moment. I can see why it makes sense with reference to his former status as Shazam's chosen one, but Shazam is now dead, Cap has been promoted, and Adam's sense of duality with the latter has ceased. In short, I don't think Adam needs the "Zap Man" symbol anymore than Ra's al Ghul needs a huge 'R' and a 'G' in the middle of his chest.

I wouldn't mind a more ceremonial-looking costume for Adam. He's a man with the power of gods who's come to rule his ancient homeland absolutely. Some divine posturing in his dress would certainly make sense.

I've always interpreted Black Adam's chest lighting as a symbol of where he gets his power from.

On the topic of Hawkeye, his costume is great, but I wish he would lose the Wolverine mask.

Just read IC 7
Extemely dissapointed with how Doomsday was used. Bringing him back in the VU Special really pumped me up but the fight was just let me down. Not saying the issue wasn't great but that was a let down and the extreme lack of ION. I mean he was only shown in the last spread. Come on!

for the a 52 preview the show black adam wearing a black version of Captian marvels cape looks bad ass.

Is Doomsday now a jobber.

If they were going to get rid of Doomsy... maybe they should have let Superboy Prime kill him like he did to Charaxes.

I don't think Doomsday is dead. They'll whip him out the next time they need a villain so tough he's become a plot device.
