CS: Since this movie has been done for awhile, what are you working on now?
Marshall: I just started working now on a film called "Doomsday," which is kinda my post-apocalyptic adventure, sci-fi movie, in the vein of "Escape From New York" or "Mad Max." So that's just about to kick-off. It's with Rogue Pictures, and it's a much bigger budget than what I've done before, so it's going to be an adventure, that's for sure. When I get back to the UK, I begin casting.

Sounds good to me :) but Neil cant write an ending for ****, so i hope the ending of this one is better

Rhona Mitra Faces Doomsday

Rhona Mitra has signed on to star in Rogue Pictures' Doomsday, a futuristic action thriller that will be Neil Marshall's follow-up to his much-buzzed-about horror movie The Descent.

Doomsday, written by Marshall, is set three decades after a lethal virus tore through a major country, leading to the country's walling off. When the virus, known as the Reaper, resurfaces in another country, an elite group is dispatched to the infected country to find a cure. There, they end up shut off from the rest of the world and must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.

Mitra plays the leader of the elite group, says The Hollywood Reporter. Production is slated to begin in early 2007.

Crystal Sky Pictures' Steven Paul and Benedict Carver are producing in association with Intrepid Pictures. Intrepid principals Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans are executive producing with Peter McAleese.

Yay!

It says a lot when you have to put "next from the director of the Descent" as the thread title instead of "next from Neil Marshall", to get noticed. I dunno. Kids these days.

I really liked the Descent and Rhona is great plus the story sounds interesting:up:

You see ... they have lost me already.

Why the HELL cast someone that looks like Mitra to be the leader of an 'elite group' ???? .......... They are simply casting a hot girl for the sake of it. Lazy, dumb, predictable.

Examples .......... Aliens, Predator, the Thing ..... and so on.
All had large casts in dangerous siuations but you could believe in them ... they LOOKED like they should be there.

If this 'elite group' is military then this will be bad. I know it, you know it.

and so did Dog solders ending :p i like both films but the endings are horrid in both

The Descent's ending was perfect, leaving a psychological and a literal way of looking at the film up to the viewer.

What was there to like ? Onoz, a bunch of women are trapped in a cave, with a group of mutated bat-frog creatures. And then one girl happens to get awesome fighting powers out of nowhere.

Awesome fighting powers...that was just basic brawling.

What there was to like was an atmospheric survival film that works as both a visceral monster movie as well as a psychological mind-bender, leaving the film open for multiple interpretations of the just what kind of descent the title refers to, as well as an underlying theme of how dangerous it can be to let personal interest and petty differences get in the way of the greater good.

What i really loved about it was how the girls were well fleshed out before they got into strife, that made me care about what happened to them, then when at first they were merely trapped it was claustrophobic and tense as they tried to work their way out of these dark dank caves,i thought it was really well shot and structured
When they finally met up with the horror below the fighting was visceral and frantic and the girls did what they had to do,
the ending is a kick to the guts but it makes you question yourself b/c in one way you were glad that Sarah got out but at the same time you were pissed at her for what she did to Juno so when you discover she was still trapped and halucinating you are conflicted, did she gets hers or do you feel sorry for her

I'm sorry but I just didn't find the concept interesting.

Girls go in cave.
Girls get trapped in cave.
Girls get picked off one-by-one by bat-frog creatures.
Girl kills girl that had an affair with dead husband.

That's the surface, there was alot past that that you weren't seeing (and the affair was only indicated, we don't know the extent of the relationship between Juno and Paul, Marshall is very good at planting seeds and leaving the audience to form their own conclusions).

It's just so much easier for me to say I hated it :csad:.

Yes, it's easier to pan something without looking any deeper than it is to contemplate a thought-provoking film.
It happens alot.

Or, I hate the film regardless of its thought-provokingness, because it didn't interest or captivate me the way I like movies to .

How's that answer?

Not really. You're stating it as if I hate the film while refusing to contemplate the film's "deeper" meanings. I did contemplate the film's deeper meanings, and I still hated it .
