Tom Rothman, is the current is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment, the parent company of Twentieth Century Fox. Everywhere I go on the internet, when this guy is mentioned, it's always in a very negative light. For instance, under Rothman's watch, Fox's movies (particularly their summer blockbusters) are mandated to not run under two hours in order to fit in more theater showings (thus automatically guaranteeing more money).

Things that Fox under Tom Rothman's eye has been bashed for (as far as I know):
*Editing "Die Hard 4" to make it a PG-13 film even though the previous three, had been R-rated. This pretty much meant that Bruce Willis couldn't say John McClaine's trademark "Yippie-ki-ya, mother ****er!" line as it was fully intended.

*The mismanagement of the production for "X-Men 3". For instance:
**Not waiting for Bryan Singer to finish working on "Superman Returns", and not having a replacement director until I believe weeks before filming was due to start. And when a director is finally hired, it's Brett Ratner, who has grown a reputation for being a hack, *****bag, MTV music video, action director.

**Not waiting for several actors (e.g. James Marsden, Rebecca Romjin, and Anna Paquin) to take care of prior engagements before filming. For in the process, certain characters were "killed off" as a matter of convinence.

**Seemingly rushing the production as means of retailiating against Bryan Singer for heading off to make "Superman Returns" (which also opened in the summer of 2006).

**Tom Rothman also allegedly didn't want Sentinels (the gigantic, mutant hunting robots) appearing in an X-Men film because he believed that audiences would immediately think that giant robots appearing in live-action would be too "silly". This was of course, before "Transformers" (a movie for which Tom Rothman allegedly turned down) came out.

*Ordering Ridley Scott to edit his movie "Kingdom of Heaven" to make it look like a more formulaic action-adventure film, when Scott intended for it to be much deeper.

*Having "Daredevil" edited to make it appear more like a summer blockbuster (i.e. more CGI) in the mode of "Spider-Man". "Daredevil" was initially conceived as a more violent, R-rated film in the mold of Frank Miller's run with the comics.

*Not giving the "Fantastic Four" films a better budget, to go along with hirining Tim Story (who is primarily known as a comedic director rather than a sci-fi, action-adventure director) and aiming for a campy, cookie-cutter, sitcomy feel. Rothman also allegedly thought that it would be better for us to see Galactus as a cloud.

*Trashing plans for an "ID4" sequel.

*Browbeating "LXG" director Stephen Norrington until he quit the business altogether. Rothman also allegedly almost convinced "I, Robot" director Alex Proyas to give up filmmaking.

You forgot how Fox screwed with the edit with HITMAN, firing then-director Xavier Gans and went back to reshoot certain scenes with a new director.

Yes, Fox sucks. More so than any studio out there.

- Tried to ruin X-Men (2000) by cutting down budget and moving the release date from November 2000 to May 2000.

- X2's budget get cut down too.

- Said no to Alien 5 by James Cameron and Ridley Scott because "We have a good script for AVP."

- Burton's Planet of the Apes remake being rushed into production. Which resulted Burton's comment "I'd rather jump out of a window than do Planet of the Apes 2."

Well not approving the ID4 sequel might've been a good idea. But who knows, everything else though...I'd have to agree. He convinced the guy who directed I, Robot to quit making movies? I didn't know that, I'll have to look that up.

As well as getting in the way during post-production which included messing with Danny Elfman's score.

You mean Alex Proyas? Director of the Crow and Dark City.

Nah, Alex Proyas (director of I, Robot) just said that he wouldn't be working with Fox as long as the current CEO's/bosses/head's are there. Because of that, I don't believe the rumors of Proyas doing the Silver Sufer solo movie.

Stephen Norrington however retired after LXG. But I guess he's coming back. Been seeing his name attached to some upcoming projects.

Alex Proyas directed I, Robot, Dark City, and the Crow :)

I don't hate Fox, just the Rothman guy. He's such a *****bag. I want him removed from office!!

Only one I agree with on that list is trashing the plans for a sequel to ID4.

I enjoyed ID4, it was a fun summer film...but it doesn't need a sequel.

Yes, Fox sucks. More so than any studio out there.

The TV network of Fox sucks too. They cancel way more good shows than any other network and Fox news station can be at times Rupert Murdochs own personal right wing propoganda machine.

unfortunately, those times come far too often. that's the main reason i hate Fox.

meh. I don't hate fox cause I don't watch the fox channel so I don't really care what goes on the fox channel but when it comes to movies, thats a different story.

LOVE this thread, Fox has ruined SO many movies which could have been excellent (including one's that luckily for them turned out quite good, but also could have been SO much better), and i think Tom Rothman is the biggest ******* on the planet. I am still shocked at what we got for X3, one of the worst movies of the last 5 years, instead of what could been the movie that other CB movies aspired to.

Then take the FF movies, Eragon, The AvP movies and COUNTLESS others, and yeah i hate Fox, i refuse to pay money to see one of their movies ever again after X3.

Alex Proyas directed I, Robot, Dark City, and the Crow :)
Umm yeah, I know, but what's that gotta do with my post?

(He also directed Garage Days and some music documentary.)

Sorry I posted late last night, I thought you meant Nah, <insert> different director here... Infering that these were two different directors... Apologies...

God..Rothman sucks. I can't get over it in how he's like this money grubbin' exec who's always a day late and a buck short. God, he's lame-head.

Ah, no harm done!

Greenlighting films from Jason Friedberg and Aaron Setzler.

Before The rain of the Rothman there were so many good Films made by Fox!! but ever Since Tom Rothman, Fox has made a handful of Crappy Films.... I really do think once he leaves, fox will get on track again and make better movies, that is if the new president isn't a mini Rothman or some disgruntled Ape.

After 2000, since this was around the time Rothman Came into power good quility films were slowly fading away while more and more S*** drenched 35mm frames were being shot, printed and released.

Percentages from RottenTomatoes of recent crappy films made by Fox.

2008
27 Dresses 39%
Meet the Spartans 2%
Jumper 16%
What Happens in Vegas 27%

2007
Epic Movie 2%
Deck the Halls 6%
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 26%
Death Sentence 17%
The Seeker 13%
Hitman 14%
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium 36%
Alvin and the Chipmunks 24%
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem 15%

2006
Date Movie 6%
The Omen 26%
X-Men: The Last Stand 56% (though it should have gotten less)
Garfield 2 11%
The Sentinel 34%
The Fountain 51% ( I kinda liked it)
Eragon 16%
Night at the Museum 44% ( i kinda liked it)

The only good recent Films (though some may Argue)

The Simpson's Movie
Live Free or Die Hard
Borat
Ice Age 2
The Devil Wears Prada (though i didn't like it that much)

I'm sure there are many more crappy films made by Fox Recently such as AVP, Electra and Garfield... *shutters*
and i am sure there are MANY more on their way, like Meet Dave...my god...

But 2006,2007, and 2008 seem to be the years of really bad films for Fox.

The sad Thing is.... I've seen most of these crappy films....God forgive me... I repent!!! :csad:

Rothman is a piece of trash.

...however, X-Men: The Last Stand does often receive too much hate. It not only receives too much hate by comic book fans (with obvious biases), but also by the people that don't actually know all of what went along during production. People put the majority of the blame on Ratner, when in reality, much of blame does not belong to him given the circumstances.

This is where I can step in:

Take a read through this:

It's a bit long, but a pretty interesting read.

I loath Fox, and every year it gets worse. I can't understand their logic behind any of their moves, and what's worse is they blantely lie to us about it.

'No, we haven't fired Xavier Gens, it's just as bloody as it ever was, we're just doing a few touch-ups.. Oh, but we'll have enough for an 'unrated' cut as soon as we release the DVD, but that's totally unrelated :|'

Fox are the Uwe Boll of movie studios. I'm surprised Agent 47 didn't wind up fighting a monster in 'Hitman' after they had their way with it.

I think his line was something like "There will never be giant robots in any film I ever make." :whatever: And Il never forget when Moriarty @AICN asked "What was this guy molested by robots when he was a child?" :oldrazz:

Tom Rothman interview about X3, FF2, and AVP2. :o :down
