So with the appearance of both the extended Superbowl spot and the theatrical trailer on US television/cable last night and multiple individual posters it seems that marketing for THE AVENGERS has hit high gear.

This thread is just to get some feedback and discussion going about what should be some DO's and DONT's in the marketing campaign in people's opinion.

For myself:

DONT's
- Clips from the movie ala THOR and CA:TFA. I hate those and they take away from the impact of the final film when during the movie at multiple points you're seeing a 30 sequence that you've seen already.
- Another theatrical trailer. Mainly because IMO it is not needed (this last one was BEYOND EPIC) and start to reveal too much. Which leads to my next point.
- TV spots that reveal more stuff from the movie.

DO's
- Individual character TV spots ala LOTR:FOTR. These IMO should be a mixture of scenes from individual movies and only scenes from THE AVENGERS that have been already shown via the trailers, etc.
- FULL TRAILER and Superbowl spot on TV. I only got this because it's exactly what they are doing now. Those 2 promote the movie beautifully! I'm actually surprised they are doing this because this must be very expensive.
- Usual 15 - 30 second TV spots that don't reveal any more; I know I'm emphasizing this.

Let's hear your feedback.

I agree with everything you've said for the most part, although I would like to see snippets of new footage in the individual character tv spots.

Edit: I also want to see new footage in the regular tv spots,as long as they don't show too much concerning the plot.

No offense but everything on your 'don't' list is completely unrealistic and will absolutely happen.

He never said that it wouldn't, he's just saying that it's not what he'd personally like to see.

I don't want to see any more hulk in the trailers. His portrayal is what i'm looking forward to most, and don't want to spoil what i reckon will only only be 2 onscreen appearances from him. Maybe 3 appearances... but i doubt it.

Thanx. It will probably be 2; and I agree.

Don't wait until the last minute, the movie is only a month away here and I haven't seen anything on TV, spots or trailers and haven't even as little as a poster at my local cinema.

Here too. My favorite cinema is completely banner and poster-free. I wonder when it starts in UK and middle europe.

If I were you guys I'd send in some sort of message/e-mail to MARVEL entertainment.

They need to do something, how is a movie supposed to be successful if no one knows about it? If they're solely relying on what has happened in the previous movies to get butts in seats then imo that's a huge mistake. I don't want another John Carter, a really good film (imo) but severely let down by bad marketing and now a huge flop.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.

Like I said e-mail MARVEL or something.

Hopefully the Disney/MARVEL plant on this site will read your complaints.

^ I'll be sure to pass on the info. :o lol :cwink: Seriously, I can't fathom why there is such a lack of advertisements in the mentioned regions. Someone really should send an email.
I also agree with Kirmit on John Carter, IMO great movie! Be it marketing or even the title as some has mentioned, it should have done better.
