The slow-reading makes you appreciate it a whole lot more. Some of the symbolism is pretty thick and you notice it right away, but there are some quite subtle thing thrown in there, which you notice the third/second time.

I really was shocked when it turned out who was behind everything...
 
Firstly, can I offer my sincere thanks to all of you who have thus far taken the time to respond to this thread, and in particular (it goes without saying!) those who have added their words in support of Doug Hutchison in the role of Rorschach in the proposed WATCHMEN movie.

In addition to promoting this campaign both here and at several other notable comic book/movie/genre fansite boards, I have also been in close contact with Doug’s people in LA, contact having been initiated via the details readily available on his own official site. They have proved to be enormously receptive to my suggestion, to the extent that I am informed that steps are now being taken by Doug and his associates with regard to his participation in this movie project. The depth and content of their return messages is such that I am in no doubt whatsoever that this is the ‘real deal’, and I have graciously been kept updated in order to provide me with details of the state of play with current developments and future proposals.

I must stress that I am in NO WAY connected with Doug Hutchison nor any professional body in any way, shape or form concerned in the movie making business in ANY capacity, casting or otherwise. I am simply a passionate fan based in the United Kingdom, going about this whole business sat at my humble little desktop stuck in the corner, and driven by a belief that Doug Hutchison is the perfect actor to breathe life into the character of Rorschach in Warner Bros. WATCHMEN project and attempting to work proactively towards this end.

The current position is this:

Doug wants this part. Doug has read, reread, and read again the WATCHMEN graphic novel, and has studied the David Hayter screenplay, admittedly somewhat outdated but in order to get a gist for the writing in terms of a film adaptation. I have now sent Doug the recently available Alex Tse screenplay, believed to be the genuine article, albeit not yet confirmed as being the final shooting script. I’ve given Doug some hints in respect of Rorschach’s background and his motivation, covering the manner in which he acts and speaks; Doug is even working on perfecting a voice for Rorschach at this time. Most encouraging of all, he is actively seeking a face-to-face meeting with director Zack Snyder in order to pitch for the part of Rorschach.

Enquiries are underway to obtain direct contact details for Snyder, the producers, all their agents, and those individuals at Warner Bros. Studios directly involved in the casting and creation of the WATCHMEN movie. The plan is to approach these people in due course in a considered, professional manner in order to present a structured, reasoned proposal in support of Doug Hutchison being given serious consideration for the role of Rorschach, to win him the opportunity to audition for the casting director and ply his trade as an experienced, acclaimed, professional actor.

I love Sean Bean but I personally think he kinda has a classic profile wich doesn't fit the character very well, no to mention his height and general physique. Or that childish expression I mentioned earlier for that matter.

ConcreteBlock15, good to know that things seem to be moving forward on a strong pace. Snyder should be close to done with 300 so he'll probabily turn his full atention to the project soon. Let's see if the timing helps.

Like i said. I'm with you ONE hundred Percent. This guy would be perfect. I wasn't keen on the idea of a watchmen movie, but I think with a decent cast, and the right script and director it could be amazing. Doug Hutchison fits into this cast category perfectly. Thanks. Tristan.

Sounds positively Rorschachian to me. Doug Hutchison would do this role proud.

SONOFA*****!) is THE ideal choice to portray everybody's favourite personality disordered, finger snappin' vigilante loon Walter Kovaks, aka Rorschach.

So convinced am I of this, I've commenced a proactive campaign of support for Mr H in this fanboytastic role (generally, I've been pestering anybody and everybody I can think of that has a part to play in bringing WATCHMEN to the screen!) In the meantime, if you and other fans would like to start a DOUG HUTCHISON AS RORSCHACH campaign of sorts and deluge Zach Snyder and Prods at WB with e-mails and such, I'm confident it couldn't hurt Doug's chances to snag the role. Well - seems that Doug's interested enough to want to check out the existing script and get his agents on the case! I sincerely believe that he is THE right man for the job, such is his proven ability as represented by his body of work, coupled with his perfect physical characteristics to play the part of Walter Kovaks/Rorschach. This will be the defining role of his career, such is the controversial complexity of the character, Rorschach being simply one of the best studies in sociopathy and most affecting commentaries on the human condition ever to see print in any medium, comics or otherwise.

Rather than being just another wish list casting suggestion, seems there's a chance (albeit in it's infancy) that this one might go on to become a reality - it helps when the object of the support has shown an interest in the project himself!

So, whaddaya say folks? Wanna join the cause and see if, just this once, the fans can make their voice heard and make a difference...?

If so, then I would ask that you join me in doing what Doug's own PA suggests, and start deluging the film makers at Warner Bros. with our support for Mr H in this role. I've invaded just about every comics/movie board going with this in order to whip up word of mouth, and am in the process of getting hold of some influential email addies, so that some strategic messages can be delivered right to the very heart of the WATCHMEN movie making/casting/producing/directing process - watch this space for details!

I'm impressed by this campaign! As you may know, I've been trumpeting this casting choice for years now, and was only made aware of this thread through your private message to me, which I just got today. I'm thrilled to see that a casting choice I've been begging for is being turned into a reality as we speak!

Of course, I wholeheartedly support Doug Hutchison in the role of Rorschach. I can think of nobody who could better embody this VITAL character. If the movie is at all loyal to the book, then as far as I'm concerned, Doug is the only choice from the pool of established actors.

While I do think this is a movie that might be better off split into multiple parts (like Kill Bill) or turned into a series (like anything decent on HBO), I think the casting of Rorshach will make or break this movie. I think Doug's the perfect choice.

I'm behind this 100% because I know it's right.

Your being the Spiritual Founding Father of the whole Doug Is Rorschach movement with your posts at this very board a whole two years ago has been a true source of inspiration, convincing me to embark upon such a concerted campaign secure in the knowledge that this particular casting idea is not merely an outlandish figment of my own fevered mind! It's good to know when you're among like-minded company...

What an insightful guy you are! It's fantastic to have you on board, and I sincerely hope that we both get to see our own (and now that of a lot of others, too!) prime candidate of Doug Hutchison snag the part of Rorschach in the WATCHMEN movie!

Never thought of him--in fact, I was thinking of Edward Norton for the character, and I still think he can pull it off--but now I'd love to see Hutchison as Rorshach. He was great in Green Mile. :up:
 
Latest word from the Doug camp (in the wake of my having raised some recent comics-to-film casting announcements):


Hey *******,

I have been checking into a few things and still nothing in the way of casting directors/rumors that I can see. The latest is that they are still working on the script. Watchmen, at this point, is unlike Iron Man and Batman and the others because they are in pre-production with a shoot date and tentative release date whereas Watchmen is still in development. Without things moving along more at this point I still believe the best plan of action is to patiently wait until the time is right to put in our plea for our casting choice. Sometimes projects stay quiet inside the production company due to working and re-wroking the script, financing and many other factors. Since Warner Bros. picked it up within the year and it seems are not choosing to use the script previously written for the screen it may be a few more months at least before things take off. I am keeping my eyes and ears open for any news I may get regarding Watchmen and will be sure to let you know as soon as I know something more. I am glad to see you so interested and positive about this project and we will do our best to get our guy the role!

I can think of a few reasons why Snyder is biding his time... 300 of 'em, in actual fact.

We will hopefully soon have his undivided attention...
 
tooms is an excellent choice, I always saw rorshach as steve buscemi but heck I have to admit doug is the perfect choice. tooms scared the s**t out of me and that is the type of silent menace that will really sell the character of rorsharch.
