Down At The Old Swimmin' Hole - Childhood Memories

You know, we actually did a ton of camping, hiking and exploring ghost towns/abandoned mines in southern Utah with our youth group leader from church, and he NEVER molested any of us.

...or so you think...

Ummm, well I lived in the middle of nowhere... so I sorta had a lonely childhood, which led to me talking and befriending inanimate objects. Mostly plants. I R E A L L Y liked fires as a small child... talk about fun. And ants. Antbeds were like little disaster scenarios at my full discretion. I guess I was playing God, huh. Me and my cousins were pretty tight. We spent the summer days together from the like sun-up to twilight... and later.

I can remember making tunnels within and under huge stacks of haybales... talk about deadly, dangerous fun.

I can remember me and my mom hiding from dad in those haybales one night.

I can remember lots of nights when I wasn't able to go to sleep, which would make me very anxious.

I can remember eating lots of Ramen Noodles, and my mom calling it "Spring Soup" because somehow that made it okay that we were poor.

I can remember crawling down in the sewers near my grandma's house.

I can remember exploring these abandoned crackhouses near my aunt's house. We had went up stairs, into a child's room... and there was Mickey Mouse cutouts on the wall that people had spray painted profanities over. And when we went back downstairs there was a door closed that we had last seen opened and we nearly freaked out. ?

I can remember going to my grandmother's house and her yelling at me for drinking her soda.

I can remember burying some "treasure" with my cousins... I wonder if it's still there?

30 years ago this july, a couple friends and I decided we were going to come up with a time capsule.(It was the bicentenial year)We put pictures of ourselves prices of various items(cars, clothes, toys etc)and money in a few different denominations. We packed all this stuff into a cleaned out plastic Teddy peanut butter tub.2quarts of peanut butter eating fun.We paced out foot steps from his house and buried it in the front yard. After 5 years or so my buddies dad had the front walk and driveway re paved and of course it was made bigger 15 years after that my friends parents got divorced and decided to SELL the house. Thankfully my buddie bought the house so here we are 2006 and no clue where our time capsule is.This July, we look forward to tearing the bejeezus out of my buddies front yard and reclaiming our 30 year project..... my kids are going to love this wish us luck and aaaaaaaaaa anyone have a metal detector we can use all help we can get

I only had one friend as a kid, one of my cousins. Hes been my best friend since I was 5... I lived in a small town and it was of the Conservative Christian variety, and everyone there disliked my family and therefore me too. Like I said my cousin was my only friend but he lived a couple of hours away so we only saw eachother a few times a year.

I have some really good memories of playing together though.

Its just besides that it was lonely.
