Down with Fred Phelps!

YUCK. You people are disgusting.

You think those are bad? Id be banned for saying my thoughts on him and what should be done with his corpse.

You people saying those ugly things.

Yeah, the guy picketed funerals, which I agree is wrong, but mocking him in death makes you no better than him.

no better than him? there is a world of difference between casual remarks on the internet about the death of a hateful lowlife and making it yer life's passion to spread venomous hatred and bigotry.

if you wanna compare my sentiment of "that dead guy sucks" to Phelps rallying crowds of hate mongers at the funerals of fallen american soldiers while claiming God's hatred...then you are a moron.

As I agree with what Motown is trying to say....Let the games begin

I hate that people act as if just because somebody died, that their slate is somehow automatically wiped clean.

He was a massive piece of **** in life and he's still a massive piece of **** in death.

**** him.

As terrible and hatefilled as the guy was, he probably unintentionally did more for gay rights than almost anyone. He was so bad that people who normally wouldn't have noticed or cared, rallied against him in support of gay people.

Let his hatred die with him.

Someone who did the things he did, said what he said, is not going to get respectful things said about his passing.

That he was justifiably seen as a vile, hateful man isn't going to be lessened at all. If anything people have been more restrained than they could be.

So what few ugly things have been said so far aren't even close to what others are more likely thinking or saying in private and in public.

It would not surprise me if people were more actively celebrating his death than just saying they are glad he is dead.

Honestly, the man was so hated that I wouldn't be surprised to find out that his grave has been desecrated at some point. Someone will likely piss on it if not worse.

I get people are glad that he's dead, etc. But it's always best to just not sink to his level. That's what they want.

It's the same reason his family threatened to sue anyone who protests his funeral. They want you to react, they need people to give them attention. They are attention ****es and hate mongers, nothing more. Don't give them more of what they want and thrive on. They make a (pretty substantial) living off of that attention.

I get that and find it ironic they threaten to sue people for protesting his funeral but I'm not one of those who is talking about it, outside of this thread and only as it pertains to why other people are if not celebrating it, at least happy he is gone.

Besides it's the media more than the everyday people who give his family the attention they want.

I think it makes us horrible people. Still better than him, though.

I hope every year on his birthday gay people go to his grave and have sex on it. I hope that becomes a thing.

I hope they don't. If for no other reason than it would be creepy as hell to bone (:rimshot:) over someone's grave like that.

Hey, you're not the boss of me!

I would like to state for the record that any and all future sexual activity I may/will engage in on public property generally designated for the disposal of human remains will be due to my own volition and design, and not because Nick gave me that idea. I just want to make that clear, so you all don't think I'm some kind of monster.

Two gay men having sex on Phelps' grave seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Like reading an old book full of incantations you found in a cabin in the woods. One of those poor guys will find out they're pregnant with some sort of anti-gay Phelps demon child.

If there's a poor pun to be had, I'll be sure to find it and post it.

The man had so much hatred in his heart that I bet his grave would make a killer anchor for some black mass voodoo ****. Just sayin.

I agree with what you're saying in principle, but I have to ask: what is your opinion of Phelps?

I think some sort of legal action should have kept him from being able to picket funerals and harrass grieving families. I'm honestly surprised none of the mourners at those funerals killed him.

I think he had a moral objection to homosexuality, and while I feel everyone is free to their opinion, but he had no right to express his opinion in that way.

I think in his heart, he thought he was doing the right thing.

Still, it makes me angry to see people posting such horrible pictures of someone who is deceased. I got mad when people gloated over Bin Laden and Hussein's death too.

We're all human.

I understand people's anger towards the guy, but I think everyone is getting way too carried way. It's not like he murdered or raped anyone. He just said some things that pissed people off.

So did Hitler. What's your point?

Still, it makes me angry to see people posting such horrible pictures of someone who is deceased. I got mad when people gloated over Bin Laden and Hussein's death too.

Why? I bet if you lost someone on 9/11, you'd feel differently about OBL's death.

We're all human.

And what does that mean exactly? Hitler and Stalin were humans. By saying "we're all human" what exactly does that signify? That they're off-limits? No, screw those dead "humans." And bring on the jokes!

Yeah, it's not like he rubbed salt in the wounds of soldiers who died in Afghanistan and Iraq, or murdered gay people, or 9/11 victims. It's not like he did anything really bad, you guys! :whatever: He just picketed grieving peoples' funerals and made the most painful moments of their lives that much worse.

Tired of your moral lecturing. I bet your thoughts and feelings are not as squeaky-clean as you like to present them as.

It's this wonderful little thing called "empathy" Yeah, the guy did some bad things, but would you like it if someone gloated over your death?

I bet your thoughts and feelings are not as squeaky-clean as you like to present them as.

Exactly what are you implying?

I'm not dancing around over Phelps' death because I find it distasteful, but I have no sympathy for him either. You can't spew bile every day of your life and harass grieving families and stoop so abysmally low as heckling funerals and then be surprised when people insult your own death.

Also, I'm not willing to give WBC the benefit of the doubt that they're just misguided zealots who think they're doing the right thing.

Before he became a so-called pastor, Fred Phelps was disbarred as a lawyer for unethical conduct.

His family are all lawyers, and sue the pants off any unfortunate soul they manage to provoke into attacking them.

They immediately vow to picket any tragic event anywhere in the country, and 2/3 of the time they never show up. They just want the attention of riding its coattails.

When Margie Phelps was on TV before, the interviewer made her look like a total phony clown when she couldn't even quote Scripture accurately.

These people are real-life internet trolls. They're attention ****es.

You mean well, and I respect that, but if someone gloated over my dead body, I figured I must have done something awesome.

Exactly what are you implying?

I mean, I bet you're as imperfect and flawed as the rest of us. I bet as a human (as you like to remind us is so important) you're just as susceptible to feelings of revenge and animus as the rest of us. And I think your whole morally superior act in this thread, telling us how to react, how we're no better than Fred Phelps, etc, is just that…. an act.
