Downplaying The Romance In Superman

I love how non-TF fans trash the BO of Transformers like it's something that didn't work.

Do you think that movie made that much on it's charisma and toy line?

Who said I was a non TF fan and where did I trash the box office?

I try to be objective, but Superman hate can be detrimental....and I hope you believe me I say that.

I come the Hype because it's fair...even thought Morg doesn't like me.

People love to claim otherwise about this site, while running sites that are completely one sided. It's quite fun.

With this line of thinking, Ang Lee should have never made Brokeback Mountain because he's a straight man and "couldn't tell" a male/male love story. Yet he did...and apparently with great success.

There are are some gays that say that portrayal is unrealistic for the life they are living. Yet, I'm not blaming Ang for not including them. Actually, how many gay cowboys have you heard about, or was that just a story to represent a larger problem???? Let's not confuse what Ang did, and call that high cinema and real life! Plenty of people have highlighted tragic gay life in non-MSM. The Chinese movie about gays was really the first to take my notice, but that's just a personal thing.

I'm not sure what you mean? Lois being with someone else is drastic? Changing Lex to a Kryptonian is drastic. Lois finding someone to love after five years is human and realistic.

1. Lois having a kid.

2. That kid is Supermans.

3. Lois is about to marry someone else (not so suprising in the mythos, but she is suppose to have bore this man, R. White, a child....that is strange for the mythose).

4. Lois is not in love with Superman.

5. Superman is not in love with Lois.

6. Superman has a child, and HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HIM.

7. Superman Returns after he has been told the planet is dead.

Naw, not me...

I love the HYPE. It's fair, but people like Morg make me question that.

What?!!? That's like saying there are no gay rappers or professional sports players because none have said they are.

You just went from arguing that Megan Fox's character, who might i add for pointing out her great mechanic skills, played no actual point to the story(though I haven't seen the movie in a while), but are saying that a movie that isn't a documentary isn't realistic.

Well, you'll never get a realistic portrayal for every type of relationship. Hell, half of the romantic comedies out there are films that I feel don't accurately convey my particular relationship with my girl, but that's not their aim. It's a certain point of view that some relationships go through--much like I'm sure some homosexual males may or may not feel that Brokeback Mountain represents their particular relationship.

But anyway, that's beside the point at hand. I simply think it's rather close-minded to believe that Bryan Singer can't tell a "straight" love story merely because he's gay and has never been there. How many directors out there have made great films and conveyed something on film so perfectly yet had never experienced it themselves?

1. What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow- Alan Moore

2. Ok. It's strange.

3. How can you claim there's a love triangle not taken realistically then say Superman and Lois don't love each other.

4. Scientist told them they found Krypton so he hoped someone survived or there were clues to others.

^Exactly.

Superman and Batman are two very different characters and should be treated differently. Superman's movies should be nothing like Batman's movies, Batman is a darker human character, Superman should be more bright and upbeat. The tone should be like Iron Man or Spider-Man.

:csad: Oh, no, please not like that. Supes is a god compared to them. I see him as a more serious character than IM and Spidey. A Superman movie should be bright, but not a comedy. It should have some humour, but not camp. And IMO, those movies had lots of camp and too much comedy.

How about this...SUPERMAN IS NOT GAY!!!!! HE NEVER HAS BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE.

Jeeze...read more into what I said then what I said. I don't care if you do or don't, anyhow.

All I am saying is those who can understand will see that Megan Fox has hidden qualities that weren't shown in TF. You wanted Sam to get with her; yet, the same can't be said of LL/KB in SR. Why do you think that is? It's because as a character, LL/KB in SR she had nothing to offer to the audience; yet, beautiful, negligent, not-worthy Megan Fox's did?????? Why do you think that is????? It's becasue 'they' gave her more to do and made her character integral to the story.

Singer did not do that, and I don't think anyone is arguing that.

What are you talking about? I was responding to your comment about gay cowboys. Of course Supes isn't gay.

You mean how Lois told Richard to go back to get Supes or that she jumped into the water to save him and pulled the Kryptonite out of his side. She sent the message to the Daily Planet with the coordinates. She was the only person actually concerned about the blackout across Metropolis and investigated even after Clark was given the story. Bosworth may not have been the best choice, but Lois wasn't too far off the mark. The classic Lois was in there.

Maybe, but he had never told a "love story" before, and personally I think all Superman movies need to contain an essential love story. Singer's "**" butt hasn't been able to portray a love story....NOT IN ANY OF HIS MOVIES.

So you saying he can is absurd. He obviously can't and doesn't have a desire to do so.

That is your opinion though? How can you call anothers opinion absurd, that is more absurd then anything...

Personally I feel the romance aspect of Superman needs to take a major backseat to the action/fighting/superhero stuff. Superman shouldnt be so lovesick.

Bryan Singer already stated he was planning to do this with the sequel and I hope this happens with a sequel or reboot.

Having things like sexual tension between Lois and Clark is a major miss-step IMO

During DC's dark ages (the 90s), with the early success of Lois and Clark, Superman comics turned into romance novels in an attempt to appeal to women (mentioned in Singer's documentary)...big mistake. This aspect of Superman continued to be focused on in Smallville and Superman Returns... it just came off as sappy and lame. It's been over-emphasized so much in the past 10-15 yrs to the point where the net is overloaded with weirdo shipper groups tied to the recent Supes incarnations.

I hate to bring up BB/TDK again but I feel they had the perfect balance of romance with the Bruce/Rachel subplot in the background.

I think Superman needs to be reinvented as an action hero and fighter and not a lover primarily.

No Superman film has truely shown this aspect of him as the main focus and I think it needs to happen in the next film.

I totally disagree with you here. And with most of your post. The only thing I agree with is that the sequel needs to focus more on Superman saving the world as the main plot of the movie, yeah, less melodrama and more action, but Superman loves Lois, and he always will. There needs to be some type of romantic stuff a lots of emotion as well in it. It just does. Superman is the romantic hero.

I betcha more people will remember what Fox did then what Bosworth did.

It has nothing to do with anything in my opinion. There are gay actors out there playing straight men and winning awards for it. This argument is tired and old, and it isn't going in a good direction.

Yes, he can, and he has shown it in the Xmen movies with Jean and Wolverine, as well as in SR. I'm a female, and the romance in those movies worked really well, imo.

Jean and Wolverine DIED:o

oPPPSS

Wolverine live, Cyclops died, and Jean died.

What the hell is going on in this thread?!?!

A majority of American can't tell where Iraq and Afghanistan are on a map. So what if they remember Megan Fox.

They enjoyed Transformers more. I understand that. That has nothing to do with how Lois should or shouldn't be portrayed. I can't tell you anything Lois did in the original movie other than die but that doesn say anything about the quality of that movie.
