Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

But, from what? He had the power cosmic. You couldn't shoot him or anything if you wanted to.

One scar would have been cool. It would have been more maddening for Doom to still have one.

Screw the plothole people, they find plotholes everywhere.
Well you know Victor was all about the appearnace. He wanted to look good while being bad. lol.

He did accomplish that.

its the same reason half the hereos and badguys wear the costume, becuase they want to!

What I want to know is how could the army pardon Dr Doom for everything he has done in the first movie? Ok, maybe the threat to national security was enough of a reason to work with him but the guy is just walking around without a single person to watch him? Hello? This guy is supposed to have super-powers.And he wasn't exactly subtle about using them in the first movie.

And then the army gives him access to the Silver Surfer board.I especially liked how the general brings him into the room and says "You can now run your experiments". With what!? His cell-phone!?

Doesn't Doom wear the armor to enable him to harness the Surfer's powers? And why would the Surfer fix all of Doom but one scar?

I wish they would have pulled out Stan's favorite "Get out of Jail Free" card for Doom and said he had diplomatic immunity :woot:

IMO they brought Victor in because the stakes were high and they needed all the help they could get since the world would have been destroyed anyway. Like the way the FBI went to Lector in "Silence of the Lambs...because they thought it would help them solve the case.

And remember they did not meet on US soil and maybe that was on purpose. Further, everyone thought he was dead anyway. He was packed off immobilized to Latveria. Even though Victor would be a strong suspect for the Ned's murder in the garage, they wouldn't have any proof. Now that doctor doing the exam is another story. I'm not sure if he was just knocked out or dead.

We didn't see the entire contents of that room so there could have been some equipment brought in for all we know.

I really think the General might have been a bit shady himself. In the comics, young Victor was recruited by the US to work on some projects for them. And we know in the first movie, that Von Doom had some defense contracts. So it's not such a stretch that he may have even had some shady dealings with General Hagar in the past.

lol, that scene had a screaming political undertone.....they were not on US soil, so that they could throughly interrogate the prisoner by any means.....

hmmmmmmmmm...

Exactly, Kel. I thought that was an interesting and dark political undertone to add to a movie that's supposed to be "just a popcorn flick".

What difference does it make if everyone thought he was dead or not? He was seen in downtown New York blowing up cars and whatnot. Endangering hundreds of people. Funny you should compare him to Hannibal Lecter since I don't remember seeing Dr. Doom immobilized in ANY way and he sure as hell had the ability to hurt more people than Hannibal Lecter. It's like letting Magneto go at the end of X3 after moving a national landmark.

And why didn't Reed check the guy out when he saw him come back completely cured? At least he should check him out since he was exposed to the same forces as Johnny.

Why did they need to strike a DEAL with Doom to begin with? Why not just say: "Listen, you either help us or we throw your ass in jail or worse". Why deal with a guy like him!?!? If they wanted intel on the board why not go to Richards?

Go back and watch the end of FF1... Doom was a statue, just standing there while the FF were taking in all the cheers. He was superheated and then supercooled, which is what caused him to be frozen in place.

I think the General brought him in because he felt Reed didn't exactly devote his full attention to tracking down the Surfer and was distracted by the wedding. He probably thought he could control both Victor and Reed by playing one off the other.... and he was wrong.

Once again, they were not on American soil so the General couldn't throw him in jail. Victor probably approached him with the knowledge about the Surfer and a deal was struck. Without getting into real world politics, it's not that difficult to believe the US military would deal with him. They had defense contracts with his company after all.

And do you honestly think that Victor would submit to an exam by Reed...?? gee that sounds so .... dirty...

Guys. Follow me here.

Victor Von Doom in the first movie showed up in downtown New York shooting lightning out of his hands. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. It took Fantastic Four working together to stop him.

My problem is that in the sequel NOBODY seems to remember this happening, and those who seem to remember it... like reed and Susan Storm, do little to nothing about it. Except stare him down.

Vader's right though to be fair...

...I mean, they only have the FF's word that he was trying to... well I'm not entirely sure WHAT he was trying to do, but y'know, "be evil". All the General knows is that the Thing charged Victor Von Doom so they fell through a building, etc. Then after a fight, he knows the Thing thre a car at Doom, destroying a bus and the car. Then the FF did not even try to take in Doom but immediately did their best to kill him. This after an earlier appearance in which they limited the scope of a disaster THEY CAUSED.

From his perspective, if he doesn't trust them at all and Doom says otherwise and can help him... well, is it so wrong to trust Doom? (PErsonally I'd hesitate rather a lot before trusting a man with the last name 'Von Doom' but...)

It's two years since the previous events of FF1; Doom has evidence that can help; the army needs all the help it can get. The X-Men were quick to work with Magneto and Mystique in X2 even though Magneto intended to kill Rogue in X1. When the stakes are high, new allegiances are formed and enemies are forced to work together.

Additionally, I thought the movie did well to incorporate current political issues alongside its themes of love and self-sacrifice. We had global warming and US torture of captives thrown into the mix.

It's a shame they didn't clearly explain the purpose of the craters formed by Surfer (obviously to help Galactus tap into the planetary core) and we had 'tachyon' fields thrown in much as we had 'telekinetic cocoons' in X3. Oh well, what's a bit of pseudoscience when you're having such fun!

Wouldn't it have been great if, when the Surfer took Doom's powers away, he was still lift with a tiny scar on his cheek?

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Doom was a statue at the end of FF1. His whole body was a METAL STATUE. How on earth was able to move any of his body parts after that, and fly a helicopter, etc. I just didn't get any of that. How did he still have flesh on his hands. Wasn't that all melted away? And like everyone said before about the FF/government working with Doom. What in the world??? :p

Yeah, some evidence. A video recording. Something that anybody in the world with a cellphone can get.

 :oldrazz:

feel free to correct me. but the surfer flew over him and then he woke up. or it was just a matter of time before the extreme hardening wore off and he was just like colossus again.

So, is Doom dead?

I think that question depends totally on weather or not the actor wants to return. And I suspect he doesn't.

He has a 3 movie deal with Fox, if they want him back for the movie....he's under contract.

What was more pointless? The mask or the board? Everyone is talking about how the mask was useless. But why exactly did Doom want the board? He didn't even try attacking the FF until they attacked him. Did he just want to fly around for fun or what?

Oh, I thought it was only for two movies...

Thanks. :)
