Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

The Doom of Marvel Ultimate Alliance was an exact replica of the traditional 616 Dr. Doom. The scene of him at Castle Doom standing near the castle turret, when he attacks the tons of jets attacking him, and just with a wave of his hand, he obliterates the whole lot of them. That is what Doom should be like when he
His voice was sinister sounding, he had pretty good dialogue (yeah it was B-Movie Villain material but Doom is the forefather of all the "tyrannical villains with insane "I want to take over the world" dialogue) and if they would just throw in a few lines of dialogue where he talks in the 3rd person, "Doom wouldn't do this, Doom would do that," then that is just an even bigger bonus for the character...McMahon can pull it off...just give him the right dialogue and we will have history....:doom:

Yup. I know that's the 616 look. And i'm saying it needs an update. =)

Other than when they did the 2099 updates/or his mystical armor, Doom's look is absolutely perfect...the ultimate villain....

He's listed in the cast roster...

Is there any news yet on Doom's role in the sequel?

:doom:

Doom aside for a moment...
This is the second Mr Fantastic figure with a hand morphed into a buzz saw?!?!?
Not only did he not do that in the first movie, it doesn't make any sense!
I guess he could stretch his hand to look like a buzz saw, but it would never spin!!!!.

yeesh.

even on the box art he doesn't have organic armor

interesting

One thing-Doom's occultish origin wouldn't be so hard to believe. Lots of European royalty fiddled around with that stuff. There were Middle Age era guilds, sects, societies, etc. that believed all that stuff.

His mum dying on charges of witchcraft isn't so hard to believe. It could be kinda creepy, actually.

It would've added a new character to the movie universe, rather than a Norman-wannabe.

Very true....

Yes, at least have something carry over from the comics. I recall the DVD extra showing Avi talking about how difficult it is to carry off a villain of Doom's type ever since it was lampooned as Dr Evil in Austin Powers (who is more like Bond's Blofeld) and I could understand that . But after coming to that realization, they committed a bigger mistake in not coming up with anything that was better and just copied Norman Osborn right down to the hostile takover subplot. Most of the movie going public probably didn't even pick up on the connection to Latveria or that he came from humble origins - - - a scene where Victor mentions it in his press conference at the pre-launch. We know Von Doom industries had defense contracts and developed weapons but we don't get the sense of just how much Victor had in the R & D of the company. At least something to show that he is as much a genius as Reed would have helped... or that Victor thought he was smarter all along, and not towards the end.

Im curious on whats peoples views on what really was the main probelm with doom. Was it mcmahon's acting( and that he was miscasted) or really the writing that mainly screwed DOOM up. With what they wrote I thought mcmahon did a good job with it. Though it written no where near what it should be. He is a good actor in is other roles ( even when my g/f forced me to watch charmed, his character went nuts and was bent on killing the chicks he was good). Il give ya his voice sucked, not menacing enough, though again he could have been told to talk normally too any thoughts?

any thoughts? miscasted? could have been done better with what was there with someone else? or a writing f-up

Here is a full body picture of Doctor Doom as he appears in the new Fantastic Four: ROTS video game. I'd say it's safe to assume that it closely resembles the final version of his film counterpart...
