Dragon Quest Heroes screenshots detail battle basics
Published 5 hours ago. 14 comments.
Prepare at your campsite before heading into battle.
DQH_12-24-14.jpg

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Heroes screenshots detailing the basics of the game’s battle system.
Find the details below.
Prepare at Camp
At the start of your adventure, you’ll be based at a camp site. Here, you’ll find all sorts of facilities, including a weapon shop.
Choose Your Destination
From the world map screen you’ll select your preferred destination. Once you visit a stage, you can play it again any number of times after.
Attack
On the battlefield, there will be monsters as far the eye can see. Wipe out enemies in cooperation with your fellow heroes.
Clear Stages
Each stage will have its own clear conditions. Some will have formidable enemies. After clearing the stage, you’ll return to your base.
Shortcuts to Victory: The Points of Battle
Players will become Akuto and company, who are tasked with defending the towns, villages, and such of the Elsarse Kingdom, which has been occupied by monsters.

  • Level-Up to Defeat the Enemy - During your adventure, you might loose a few battles. But there is an upside. As you defeat enemies, your character will grow. If raise your character’s level and continue to challenge these enemies, you’ll be able to defeat them in due time.
  • Switch Between Characters - Organize your party of up to four characters. Switch between characters with a single button and freely control each character.
  • Special Moves are the key to Victory - Once your Tension Gauge reaches 100 percent, which is accumulated by attacking enemies, you’ll have the chance to activate a Special Move like Akuto’s “Giga Slash.” Useful in a pinch, these attacks can damage surrounding enemies in a single swoop.
Dragon Quest Heroes is due out for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan on February 26. View the screenshots at the gallery

Dragon Quest Heroes screenshots detail locations, monster allies
Published 2 mins ago. 0 comments.

Collect Monster Coins to summon monster allies.
DQH-Screens_12-30-14.jpg

The latest set of Dragon Quest Heroes screenshots detail some of the action RPG’s locations, monster summons, Magic Cannon, and character skills.
Unfortunately, 4Gamer, our usual source for high-res and watermark-free screenshots, are on vacation for the holidays, so we don’t have the high-res images quite yet. Get the details below, and until we get the images, you can find them in lower-res with watermarks over at Gamer.ne.jp.
Locations

  • Cortruda – Because it’s surrounded by a strong outer wall, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Cortruda a fortress city. The city is home to various development institutes, including the Magic Research Laboratory, but…
  • Elsarse Castle – The opening stage. Known as the “Castle of the World Tree,” this town lived in peace and harmony, until one day everything changed. What happened?
  • Labator – A city surrounded by the desert. The center of the city has an arena, and buildings can be seen throughout the streets. Has this place also been occupied by monsters?
  • Shira – A place known for its fantastic scenery. The Elves life here, but they are rarely seen.
Monster Coins
When you defeat a monster, they might sometimes turn into a coin. By grabbing these coins, you’ll be able to temporarily summon the monster, which will join forces with you in battle.
Collecting a lot of Monster Coins will prove advantageous in battle.
The Magic Cannon
Some stages will give players access to a “Magic Cannon” which allows players to shoot out powerful blows that take out hordes of enemies all at once.
While useful on groups, this gun is also effective on large enemies, like Gigantes beasts.
Characters
In Dragon Quest Heroes, Akuto and Mehr are the main characters. While their armor and special movies are largely similar, Akuto is fire-based while Mehr is ice-based, allowing each character to learn their own unique moves. There are two types of special skills in the game: one of them requires repeated input to pull off, while the other consumes MP to use.
Equipment: One-handed Sword and Shield
Special Move: Giga Slash
Different button combinations will pull off different skills, although there are also options in the game that simplify the process for less skilled players. Skills that use up the blue MP Gauge in the bottom left corner of the screen naturally tend to be stronger ones available in a character’s arsenal.
That being said, MP refills over time automatically, meaning players don’t have to be overtly cautious about expending it for skills.
Dragon Quest Heroes is due out for PS4 and PS3 in Japan on February 24.

Capturing and training monsters has been a core part of the Dragon Quest series since Dragon Quest V and players will be able to fight alongside Slime Knights in Dragon Quest Heroes too.

Whenever you defeat a monster there is a chance you’ll get a Monster Coin. Monster coins can be used to summon monsters that fight with you. Players can have up to two computer controlled monster allies. Famitsu shared more screenshots of the Monster Coin system.

Dragon Quest Heroes introduces two new main characters, Act and Mar. Both fighters are armed with a one handed sword & shield and use Giga Slash as a deathblow.

Dragon Quest Creator Says Several Games In Development For 30th Anniversary. January 7, 2015 . 9:32am

Yuji Horii says a number of projects are underway to celebrate the series’ 30th.

Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii has teased a few tidbits on the development of Dragon Quest XI on several occasions, but going by his New Year’s message on the Dragon Quest X website, it seems likely that we’ll get an announcement sometime next year.

Here’s what was stated on the message:

Happy New Year’s to you all. This year is actually the 30th anniversary-eve for the Dragon Quest series.

In February, we’ll have Dragon Quest Heroes, and we’ll release Theatrhythm Dragon Quest in March. Other than that, we haven’t announced anything else, but we’re jostling through a great deal projects as we head towards the 30th anniversary.

As for Dragon Quest X, we’ll release Version 3 this spring. I believe that it’s a good time for all of you, along with our staff, to look forward to what’s coming.

Life is a role playing game.
Thank you for your continued support of the Dragon Quest series!
Yuji Horii (January 2015)
Now, Horii doesn’t mention anything about Dragon Quest XI, but let’s rewind about nine years back. In 2006, Square Enix announced Dragon Quest IX for their 20th anniversary, followed by Dragon Quest X in 2011—so going by their recent trend of announcing main-numbered titles on milestone anniversary years, it seems likely that we’ll get an official announcement for Dragon Quest XI sometime next year.

Horii also mentioned that Dragon Quest XI is being developed simultaneously with Dragon Quest Heroes, which releases next month. He also said that the game is in development for home consoles.

Dragon Quest creator teases 30th anniversary plans

"Many projects in planning" for the big 3-0.
DQ-2015-Message-Horii_01-07-15.jpg

Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii welcomed the New Year in a message on the official Dragon Quest X website, teasing plans for the series’ 30th anniversary.
Happy New Year, everyone. There is just one year to go until the 30th anniversary of Dragon Quest.
In February, we will release Dragon Quest Heroes, and in March, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest. Additionally, while still to be announced, there are many projects in planning as we head towards the 30th anniversary. And then there’s the release of Dragon Quest X Version 3.0 in the spring. Together alongside our fans and development staff, I hope we keep making the series even bigger and better!
Life is a role-playing game. Here’s to many more years to come of Dragon Quest!
Dragon Quest IX was announced in December 2006, the series’ 20th anniversary year, and released in its 23rd anniversary year of 2009. Dragon Quest X was announced in August 2011, the series’ 25th anniversary year, and released in its 26th anniversary year of 2012. If this pattern continues, we likely won’t see the announcement of Dragon Quest XI until some point next year.
Thanks, Games Talk.

DQH-Batoshie-Details-VJ-Init.jpg

This month’s issue of V Jump has first details on a new base area in Dragon Quest Heroes, due out for PS4 and PS3 in Japan on February 24.
Previously, we were introduced to Camps, base areas featuring all sorts of facilities. V Jump this month introduces the “Airship Batoshie,” which flies freely throughout the world and houses various facilities such as a “Weapon Shop,” “Armor Orbs Shop,” “Luida’s Bar,” and “Alchemy Pot.”
At the Weapon Shop, players can purchase new weapons and shields, as well as equip them. Your equipment will be reflected on your character’s appearance.
At the Armor Orbs Shop, players can upgrade their defense power, as well as sell Armor Orbs. It appears there will be a variety of Orbs with special abilities.
At Luida’s Bar, you’ll be able to gather all your companions and organize your party.
And finally, at the Alchemy Pot, you’ll be able to concoct accessories from recipes. For example, synthesizing an “Iron Nail” and “Fine Salt” will get you a “Gold Ring.” You can also use the kettle to strengthen items by putting the same type inside of it.

Similar to other games in the Dragon Quest series, Luida’s Bar will be a place where you can recruit allies.

Dragon Quest Heroes will bring back heroes and monsters from the series, but it will also have some other features that are familiar to fans. Some of these include Luida’s Bar and the Alchemy Pot. The latest issue of V Jump shares more detao;s. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

While a camp was previously shown as a base for the player to prepare for combat, there’s a new base that will be like some sort of airship, called the “Batoshie” . In addition to you being able to fly around on it, it also has a weapon shop, a “Defense Orb” shop, a Luida’s Bar, and Alchemy Pot.

The weapon shop will sell weapons and shields, which will also change the characters’ appearances, according to the weapon or shield they use. The Defense Orb shop is where you can purchase “Defense Orbs,” which can be used to increase your defense and such. There will also be Defense Orbs with various other special effects.

Er, Hyrule Warriors was based on a major Nintendo license that's main fanbase is in the west. There's no way it wasn't going to be localized. I don't think that's a measuring stick for anything in regards to this.

I did say others said that. not my self people are running around the webs also telling others to hit up a certain rep from sony that known too listen to people via twitter also to have this & the sega made shining res come to the west .

when they said hyrule worriors they meant cause of it's success example wise in their view . that's what I meant by them with the words hopeful like those peep's they're fooling them selves that Square would take notice of that, & maybe they should fallow suit.

Square doesn't take notice of stuff like that though . it was obvious with the shock of how well Bravely did . square doesn't move their butts til one of the console publishers pays them &the the shock come when it sell well. this why people are all head to that sony rep these days

Dragon Quest Heroes staff on western release, multiplayer
Published 3 hours ago. 35 comments.

No multiplayer, but there will be a network element.

DQH-Western-Game-Watch_01-31-15.jpg

Game Watch quizzed Square Enix on the potential of an overseas release of Dragon Quest Heroes during an interview at the Taipei Game Show.
“I want to proceed thinking positively,” Square Enix’s Ryutaro Ichimura said in response to the question of a western release. “Since we were able to announce the Chinese version in Taiwan today, seeing that reaction, I want to spread it even further around the world.”
Game Watch asked if a potential English version would include the option to switch between English and Japanese voice-overs.
“We haven’t decided anything about that yet, but if it’d be better to put it in, that’s something we’ll consider moving forward,” Ichimura said.
Koei Tecmo producer Kenichi Ogasawara added, “If such a need is strong, we’re going to consider it.”
Finally, the website asked about multiplayer. Specifically, whether or not it exists within Dragon Quest Heroes.
“There are no plans for completely synchronous multiplayer,” Ogasawara said, “but we will be incorporating a fun little element that uses the network. We haven’t officially announced that yet, but I think you’ll enjoy it.”
Dragon Quest Heroes is due out for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan on February 26. If you missed it, catch the latest footage here.

Square Enix hiring for “new genre” Dragon Quest

Published 2 hours ago. 53 comments.

Whatever it is, it'll have maps and some sort of online mode.

SE-New-Genre-DQ-Hire.jpg

Square Enix is looking for a planner to work on a new Dragon Quest title, according to a recent Workport job listing.
The contents of the job listing mention the following key points:

  • It is a new Dragon Quest consumer game (meaning either consoles or handhelds).
  • Map design and data creation are part of the planner’s responsibilities, which consists of map creation and arranging items, monsters, events, and such across it.
  • Framing the game’s online mode is also part of the planner’s responsibilities. This is described as a mode where other players and play data are exchanged.
  • The project is “taking on a new genre.”
Right now, we’re know of four Dragon Quest consumer titles in the works: Dragon Quest Heroes, Theatrhythm Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest XI, and a new Dragon Quest Monsters. The former two, though both new genres for the franchise, have February 26 and March 26 release dates, respectively. It’s highly unlikely Square Enix is looking for planners this close to release. As for the latter two: Dragon Quest XI is likely a traditional Dragon Quest RPG (unless it takes the Final Fantasy XV route and goes action RPG—but Square Enix are already calling Dragon Quest Heroes an action RPG, so). And we’d imagine the next Dragon Quest Monsters is being made in the same vein as previous entries.
That last point said, it’s likely this job listing is referring to something completely different. Which shouldn’t be too hard to believe, given series creator Yuji Horii teased there are “many projects in planning” as we head towards the series’ 30th anniversary. (And by extension, the much-anticipated Dragon Quest XI.)
Thanks, Dodoitsu.

Dragon Quest Heroes PS4 And PS3 Differences Detailed. February 10, 2015 . 12:31am

Square Enix recently shared more on the official website about the differences between the two versions of the game.

Square Enix are releasing Dragon Quest Heroes for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and Square Enix recently shared more on the official website about the differences between the two versions of the game.

As far as game content goes, both versions will have the exact same content, so you won’t have to worry about any exclusives in one or the other. However, it’s more in the extra functions and features that one will see the differences.

In terms of functions, the PlayStation 4 version will allow you to share images and videos, and also broadcast your gameplay, along with some Share Play that will allow you to have others play up until the early stages of the Dragon fight. The PS4 version will also allow for Remote Play via the PlayStation Vita as well.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 version won’t have any of those features, and will run at 30fps, compared to the 60fps the PlayStation 4 version will have, which might actually be noticeable when taking on hundreds of Slimes and Drackies.

Regarding the graphics part of things, characters, backgrounds, and effects will display more detailed on the PlayStation 4. Again, during moments where monsters show up in big armies, the PS4 version will display many of them, while the PlayStation 3 version will show less; however, it won’t change the difficulty or how it’s played.

Additionally, Square Enix have announced that PlayStation Plus subscribers in Japan will be able to get a special Secret Slime weaponDragon Quest IV heroine Maya can use in the game. The PS4 version also includes a 15 day PlayStation Plus trial subscription as a bonus.

Dragon Quest Heroes is slated for release in Japan on February 26, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Here’s a quick overview:
Jessica

Special Ability: Magic Burst
As a gifted magician, Jessica is naturally skilled with spells. But she’s also good with a whip. Her special moves showcase her sex appeal and are a sight to see.

As was announced yesterday, Square Enix has gone live with the latest trailer for Dragon Quest Heroes.
The video itself, which you can watch below, is mainly a mixed showcase of known characters and gameplay mechanics. However, at the very end, the “shocking new information” that was previously alluded to be included yesterday by producer Ryutaro Ichimura turned out to be the announcement of free post-release DLC coming to the game that focuses on some of the series’ villains.
Though no names are specifically spelled out, judging by who appears in the background imagery, at the very least, it’s set to include Nokturnus, who last appeared in Dragon Quest IX, Zoma from Dragon Quest III, Dragon Quest V‘s Bjørn the Behemoose, and the previously announced Psaro the Manslayer from Dragon Quest IV.

Why Both Dragon Quest V Brides, Bianca And Nera, Are In Dragon Quest Heroes. February 16, 2015 . 12:45am

Square Enix revealed the latest trailer for Dragon Quest Heroes, where we got to see a bunch of the series’ characters in action, but some fans wondered how both Bianca

and Nera are both in the game

Square Enix revealed the latest trailer for Dragon Quest Heroes, where we got to see a bunch of the series’ characters in action, but some fans wondered how both Bianca and Nera are both in the game. Chief producer Ryutaro Ichimura shared an explanation on Twitter.

To get you up to speed on what fans were confused about, in Dragon Quest V, you can pick either Bianca or Nera to be the protagonist’s wife and permanent party member (along with Debora for the DS version).

However, once you make your pick, the other girls just become regular NPCs and don’t actively join in on any of the action, while living a normal life. You can still talk to them, but they no longer play key roles in the story.

Some fans felt that it was a bit odd, so Ichimura explained “As for the two girls, they actually go into the world of Dragon Quest Heroes right on the day before the day of fate [when the protagonist makes the choice]. So, you’ll also get to see them confront each other!”

Bianca’s profile on the official website has her quoting “I must hurry and find father and my fiancé!” so it seems like she’s looking for the protagonist somewhere in the world of Dragon Quest Heroes.

That said, it should be pretty entertaining for fans to see how Bianca and Nera interact amongst each other. If Square Enix add more characters via DLC, it’d make things even more interesting if they decide to add the bossy ice queen Debora, later on.

Dragon Quest Heroes is slated for release in Japan on February 26, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Check out our earlier report for the game’s latest trailer and details.

Published 28 mins ago. 1 comment.

King of darkness voiced by Ainosuke Kataoka.

Ainosuke Kataoka will play Hermood, the last and strongest king in the Family of Darkness in Dragon Quest Heroes, Square Enix announced.
Hermood is said to be the main culprit in causing the uprising of monsters, which once coexisted in peace with humans.
Kataoka says he is happy to be playing a part in a Dragon Quest game as it’s a series he’s enjoyed from childhood. “It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say this is the happiest I’ve been with a role I’ve had,” Kataoka said. “Hermood is a cruel and level-headed boss, who at the same time is hiding something mysterious deep within him.”
Watch a video interview with Kataoka below.

The “100,000 Slimes Battle in Shinjuku” campaign invites commuters at the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station’s Metro Promenade to help defeat 100,000 Slimes, which are printed on a giant poster overlayed with bubble wrap. To “defeat” a Slime, passerbys simply need to pop its bubble.
The campaign will run from February 23 to March 1, with commuters able to take out Slimes between the hours of 10:00 and 21:00.

In Dragon Quest Heroes, humans used to live peacefully with the monsters, but a mysterious villain named Hellmood appeared and cast a spell that made the monsters become… well, monsters.

It’ll be up to the game’s two protagonists, who’ll team up with a cast of Dragon Quest heroes from the entire series, to put an end to it, so they can live side-by-side with Slimes from all around the world, once again.

You can check out some more gameplay footage in our earlier report, along with a comparison between the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game.

Dragon Quest Heroes is slated for release in Japan on February 26, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
